Cool thing about the Haka; it's a war dance. And whenever they stick out their tongue, it's a warning to the enemy. It's like saying, "Not only am I going to beat you. But I'm going to eat you after." 😮😮😮
Cool thing about haka: for years they lied about it. "No, you misunderstood. It's a sign of respect" Where i come from yelling at someone, sticking your tongue out, making threatening eye contact is very disrespectful. As is lying.
A Haka isn't always about 'war' or 'warning'. A Haka can be done as a welcome or a farewell. Or at a funeral. It might be more accurate to say that a Haka is done with a full heart or spirit.
@@Voodoo_Robot I think you just explained yourself very well: "where I come from". Your culture is clearly different from Māori culture. By way of comparison: in some cultures, looking someone in the eye can be seen as a threat or a sign of disrespect, where averting one's gaze is expected. In other cultures, averting one's gaze is seen as hiding your true intention, and are therefore acting untrustworthy. Respectfully, try looking through other cultures through their lenses, not yours.
@@jimcarroll9738 yeah but no. It's not just "looking someone in the eyes" for example. It's literally a threatening gaze. Why should i respect someone who acts violently at our first meeting. That whole culture comes from brutal savagery, cannibalism, clandestine warfare and subterfuge on a small island. And your statement about looking at other cultures through their eyes: i do. Imagine a Maori visiting a country in Europe and being welcomed by rudeness, racial slurs and threats of violence only to be told afterwards it's all a show of respect

It's not Dwayne Johnson's fault that the caption says Samoan though, to be fair. His dad is black, his mom is Samoan, and he lived for a good chunk of his childhood in New Zealand, where Haku comes from. The family later returned to his mother's home Island of Hawaii. So the dance is part of his culture as it belongs to the Maori people, which are (like the Samoans) a Polynesian people. So while the dance is not specifically Samoan and the caption does need to be changed, they didn't completely get it wrong. It would be better fitting to say Maori or Polynesian.
I remember it from when I was on Maui when I was 7 (family vacation). Never saw anything like it before. Always thought it is amazing & beautiful. I understand why it not only is used as a challenge, but also as a means to show honor, respect, & pride to a loved one.
@@k.d.6068 Samoa doesn’t have a “Haka” as that is a Māori thing. Samoa has the Siva Tau which is kind of similar but there’s a lot of differences between the two.

A windscreen wiper (Commonwealth English) or windshield wiper (American English) is a device used to remove rain, snow, ice, washer fluid, water, or debris from a vehicle's front window. Almost all motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, buses, train locomotives, and watercraft with a cabin-and some aircraft-are equipped with one or more such wipers, which are usually a legal requirement. A wiper generally consists of a metal arm; one end pivots, and the other end has a long rubber blade attached to it. The arm is powered by a motor, often an electric motor, although pneumatic power is also used for some vehicles. The blade is swung back and forth over the glass, pushing water, other precipitation, or any other impediments to visibility from its surface. The speed is usually adjustable on vehicles made after 1969, with several continuous rates and often one or more intermittent settings. Most personal automobiles use two synchronized radial-type arms, while many commercial vehicles use one or more pantograph arms.
