I have had difficulty understanding what was meant by "convergence" but after you zooming in and showing the corners and middle, I have a lot better idea now. Thanks!
What a gift this software is to the whole community. Cheers and thank you to everyone involved in the development ! And thank you for the review brother, helpful as always.
This pattern is set up for 60 Hz (NTSC and PAL-M) systems. As soon as there's a version set up for the aspect ratio of 50 Hz (PAL) displays, I plan to add the Super NES version of the monoscope pattern to the NES suite.
Wow! I'm really looking forward to your next video where you calibrate that first TV. Mine has the same problems in the upper left and lower left corners!
I dont know if you already do this, but if you had an in person, multi-coarse training sessions on calibrations, and repair/restoration classes, I'd be more than happy to sign up and pay for it. I live in Ohio, and I'd drive down to you no problem.
Awesome. This really tickles my diy tinkering nerve. I have a few consumer crt's that need some love. Your videos help to boost my confidence to fix them myself. Thank you! 🔥❤🔥
If they're consumer grade, there's a good chance you won't be able to adjust the height and width unless it's a Sony. this has been my experience at least
cs-40809, tried this suite out just for the heck of it.. almost literally nothing needed to be adjusted, it's that fantastic :) i just pushed h-position (hwd) to the left by 2 points to get the Wii menu blue arrows to both evenly touch the sides of the screen. these beasts are fantastic.
Ok so, this program is very good, however noticed that depending on the console/system I'm using I need to re-adjust the horizontal and vertical positioning of my screen. Is this correct or a common issue? So for example, I adjusted the screen positioning on my PS2 so I don't have overscan, but when I tried to check out this software on my Wii the test the screen is a bit off-screen, horizontal and vertical. I can just use the service menu for this issue, but it's kinda interesting how companies didn't use an uniform rule for screen positioning if that's the case!
Hey @retro tech, I got a couple questions. Where would I go about getting caps for crts, where is a good place to buy them? With the convergance the red squares on my TV I'm using are a bit out of place in different spots as well as general convergence, is that a cap problem do you think? There are convergance problems all over this jvc, but I'm actually trying to get into repairing these crts as I have access to an unlimited supply of various models and pvms. Thanks friend!
Great video, I just purchased my first Sony PVM, model: 2130qm Any idea if the physical SNES/GENESIS 240P test pattern cartridge contains the last update? And is it possible to update a cartridge? Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏻
Hi. I need to adjust the geometry of a CRT monitor with VGA adapter that connected to a PC. I don`t have a console like PS1 PS2 etc. Is there a way to run 240p Test Suite without a console?
Play SMB3 for a good example of why its better to overscan than to underscan. Any game with simultaneous horizontal and vertical scrolling on NES (Kirby's Adventure is another) uses loading seems to get around the technical limits of the NES. On an underscanned screen, these seems are totally visible, and in SMB3 in particular, pretty ugly. Game developers assumed most CRTs were overscanned, so we probably should too.
I've been tinkering with balancing the overscan between SNES and Genesis in order to mask the horizontal shift and I bet that's pretty close to the right amount.
@@FigureFarter on Castlevania IV it will cutoff the top of the sub weapon box, but that should be it. The problem isn't the standard or the pattern, but Konami's flagrant disregard for the standard. Nintendo clearly gave Konami a talking to at some point because the SNES version of Dracula X adheres to the Title Safe Area no problem.
@@Sammmmmmmm617 for just setting up some geometry and aspect ratio stuff Composite and SVideo are fine. I'd have to read up on the L2, not sure what's different from the L5.
I don't understand what to do with this. I have the 240p suite test for the SNES, now how do I change the aspect ratio? All you told us was the A button dims it until only the red lines show. How do I change the aspect ratio so all the corners that are out of sight can be in sight? And will doing this make the whole tv that way? Its cuz' when I watch tv or youtube with my roku, there's a lot of stuff I can't see cuz' they're in the very corner. Will this thing be able to pull all those into the center so I can see everything?
Are you planning to do a Windows 9x/2000/XP or MS-DOS release for this ? That would be cool. I have connected an old pentium III PC, wunning Windows 2000SP4, which has an AGP graphics card with an Y/C output and another more modern Windows 7 core2duo one which i have a professional VGA to Y/C converter for to my CRT monitors. I don't have much space for all sorts of retro consoles, so i have PC's running emulators and modern games with steam in-home-streaming.
Question: when I use my Genesis (games or the 240p test suite) I notice thick vertical bands running down the screen of my 20m2mdu. It’s most visible against solid colors. Also the text and detail are not as crisp as when displayed on 256. Is there a way to fix any of this? My n64 doesn’t look nearly as bad.
Would this work for accidently messing my Beocenter 1 up? I formatted it in the settings and apparently that is a big no no... I can't get my image right as it used to
Guys if I want to send an analog video signal from a PC over DVI to a CRT TV over component or scart, do I need something like a scaler or a transcoder or just the cable adaptors to get the content on screen?
Older PC DVI ports are DVI-I, so they include RGBHV analog video. If you have such a port, then you need a suitable passive cable and for the monitor to support the frequency your video card is outputting. If you can't get a compatible frequency out of your card, then you need a scaler. Modern PC DVI ports are DVI-D and digital only. You need a scaler in that case, because you probably can't customize the output resolutions enough.
@@ZiggyTheHamster I have my card modified with resolutions for groovymame and output frequency changed to 15Khz.. and I want to know if I need a Scaler or transcoder in order to get a signal or just cables that goes from DVI-I to component, or DVI to scart, to match it with my CRT TV's inputs.
Thank you for making this video! Shared on my channel as well

This is amazing! Thanks for the heads-up!
For measuring these squares, I am experimenting with using the Apple Measure app on iPhone (instead of a ruler, tape measure, string, etc.)
I'll be interested in seeing your results. Try for the larger red box and see what you get.
Keep up the good work 🙏🏼👍🏼
I have this loaded on my Wii and yes it's the best tool ever for the CRT's

Thanks for this breakdown on the new pattern. If the CRT community had a Mount Rushmore your face would be on it.

This 240p test didn't exist for the 3DO so I just posted one. It's got CRT / cropping / color accuracy / scaler calibration images, etc.

Yes. Therefore I use the rule: one console, one CRT.

You'd need to google a maintenance mode combination, each tv has something different
