We're glad that nobody was injured in this potentially hazardous situation. If my memory is correct we bought lunch for some of the participants. This was a great construction crew and they built a magnificent facility for us to enjoy every day.

Japanese original sushi is far from other countries so I can’t give any useful information.
But all I want to say is that we don’t use seaweed to make sushi with Ebi. Google “nigiri”. That’ll be what Japanese think of when you say “sushi”.

You just have to watch it from a good safe distance...
I think there actually is, there is most likely a lanyard or kill switch that stops the machine when you let go, and they probably disabled it or bypassed it somehow. So, the training would be to not let it happen by using the installed safety features.
@jeremyspecce there is a switch that is supposed to release when your hands are taken off the handles. Unfortunately, it isn't uncommon for guys to tape the switch down..

When a safety hazard occurs ALL personnel on site should give it their full attention and be prepared to take action. THEY were doing their job correctly, the office idiots talking about them "not working" and throwing around the idea of firing them are the only ones not doing what they should be doing.

I worked in the gas industry. The workers would clear debris out of a newly installed pipe by shooting a "pig" through it. It's a chunk of foam that you push through with compressed air. I watched them intentionally launch it 40 yards across the road. Fun times.

I once watched one of these fall off the third story of an unfinished building, still spinning away. We used to call them "Italian helicopters". The safety switch is always the first thing to go wrong, and the easiest thing to hotwire.

salted popcorn Agreed. When things go wrong in construction people could very easily lose their lives. That's why there are so many safety rules and regulations and it should be taken seriously. Still a funny video though.

I've worked in the field as well as various management positions in commercial construction, and I would have been the first one to respond to any of the contractors having an issue such as this. The key is not to panic, causing someone to get seriously injured.

There's something wonderful about an old YT vid, that likely never had any intention of being viewed 11 times, let alone 11 million, and is just a slice of these peoples' lives, that they have graciously (and mostly unwittingly) shared with humanity, forever. Am a concrete worker myself. This is funny as hell to me. Specially since no one got hurt. BUT not to address the fact that this is NOT a concrete buffer but actually a Walk-Behind Trowel machine would be a disservice to my trade. These men are still finishing the concrete. It hasn’t fully set. The trowel helps with that. Buffers don’t come into play until afterwards. Still funny :)

Impressive indeed! This was posted over 11yrs ago and remains highly entertaining. As of today we are 10+ months into a pandemic, possibly facing another stay-at-home order in the near future. I am definitely sharing this with others. Such humor will be beneficial to many, especially after Covid-19 attacked our planet. I admit i had tears by the 1:00 mark. I had to watch it more than once. I am grateful this appeared on my RUclips suggested list. The running commentary was priceless!
And don't forget to mention the nature aspect, a wild concrete buffer is rarely seen in its natural habitat like this.
