    Living with a narcissist can also make you have all of these symptoms and more. I developed multiple auto immune problems. Severe depression, anxiety, insomnia, brain fog, confusion, ptsd, heart problems and more.
    It's called a Slow Kill.
    I just got yelled at by the narc for sorting laundry.
    Get away as fast as you can.

      … some narcs just come as a package deal “ one or both parents , siblings…”
      My dad was a full blown narc… and so are many of my siblings 😢
      I grey wall them as much as possible. Keep our interactions very basic. I don’t share anything personal or anything else with them... the less they know the better for my well-being.

      My former manager was one, I didn’t know it at the time, but yes, they will slowly kill you. They want to destroy your “light.” I’m learning now, after I “escaped, after 16 years of abuse,” that… if you do t forgive them for what they knowingly did to you, you will make up for it in Purgatory. It is SPIRITUAL WARFARE. So Forgive and let God deal with them. I e learned discernment and am healing from all the Wonderful Coaches on RUclips. My best friend betrayed me recently, it was sad and creepy. Be careful everyone, guard your ❤.

      Go see a DO or a holistic doctor. DOs are also MDs but actually have training in addition to their schooling and residency. They are MDs with additional education pertaining to treating the whole body rather than just treating the issue at hand (like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc.-they dig a little deeper to find the root cause of these issues). There IS a test to find out your hormone levels, like serotonin, dopamine, cortisol, etc. My MD said there wasn’t-not true. You’ll feel like a new, improved person from the inside out once you take control of and gain knowledge about your own specific bodily needs. Our diets are so nutrient deficient for many reasons; the depleted soil they are grown in, processed foods, and now we’re heading into lab-grown meat! Going a little far here lol, but you get the gist. 😊

      You deserve to be happy and get the right care for yourself. I've been in your type of situation before, there are paths you can take to feel well again even if they are hard to see right now.

    The dopamine systems are very complex though. It’s not just that you’re inherently lacking dopamine, you yourself could be the culprit of your dopamine disfunction. Too much screen time, lack of exercise, allowing yourself to be stuck in a negative state of mind, all in short “fry” the system and cause disfunction over a period of time

  • @rachels_fyi6900
    @rachels_fyi6900 Год назад +15

    This is why the question: "How do I get more" is the wrong question. Dopamine is way more complicated than "how much" you have. There's a tonic pool of dopamine, and there are pings of dopamine that come in the moment in response as a reward to "winning" something. The small pings of dopamine are then stored and BECOME the tonic pool of dopamine. But, the small hit of dopamine now is compared to the pool, and if the pool is large (you made a lot of dopamine in the past and you didn't get rid of it), then the small hit right now doesn't look that important to your brain. If you have a small tonic pool of dopamine (the sum of all recent past hits of dopamine), then that small hit of dopamine right now is going to look big to your brain. Therefore, what matters is HABITS and how much dopamine you make, generally, and then whether you get rid of it. So, that's why people do "dopamine detoxes" where they, first of all, stop scrolling through social media on a screen (go look up all the different ways that your brain makes more dopamine). Take a vacation from dopamine-producing activities, go through a little withdrawal. Eat boring food. Eat less food and fewer times per day. Now, does food start to taste better and feel like a bigger reward?! Duh! So, when people list out all the things that give them "more dopamine" it's true, and yet by going out and doing those exciting things and eating more exciting foods, etc. you are only creating a bigger problem. And, probably the biggest problem for anyone reading this is tied to the screen, youtube, social media and all the exciting things that happen on a digital screen. And, the worst time to look at screen is first thing in the morning. (And, serotonin is much more complicated than most people think, too. So, until you understand it, proceed with caution.)

I barely see anyone bring up how the lack of healthy relationships in your formative years leads to insecure attachment with the world around you. The rabbit hole goes deep but I’m so glad I finally made the connection. Abuse caused me to internalize my emotions, and the constant need for stimulation is just a coping mechanism for dealing with a lack of the most important “stimulation”, which is LOVE that I was deprived of. I sense that the solution is to get back in touch with my inner child and come to peace with what is so that my nervous system can return to a functional state and realize that I’m now an adult and I’m OKAY and no one is out to hurt me.

      speaking from personal experience-
      if you don't want to take a prescription amphetamine to raise it, foods high in choline (whole egg, shiitake, soy beans) + L-tyrosine (any lean beef, poultry, and also firm tofu for vegetarians) work moderately well
      caffeine (having a cup of coffee, tea, etc.) can help you with the adrenaline ramp-up preceding a focused hi-dopamine session (exercise, deep work)
      lastly, internally noting that things are proceeding well ('good job, keep going') helps the most out of all of these, imo
      good luck, you're not lazy you just need to get in the groove

    I suppose we can't be our own doctor right! That's why even though we learnt about these from reading books and research, it's not easy to connect these to our own situations!
    Until someone experiences this, they can never really understand what it's like to be constantly tired and exhausted to the core, fuzzy mind, low mood like the brain literally runs out of fuel to function optimally.

      it’s a very simple solution: Don’t give yourself gratification and overstimulation without any effort.
      So drugs, junk food/sugar, video games, comedy shows, porn/masturbation, constantly scrolling on your phone… Fix your motivation (dopamine ≈ motivation) by doing good habits, delaying your gratification. This is what actually brings fulfillment and makes you happy. You should see it like this: everyday you have 100 dopamine points. You lose them very quickly by doing shit habits, and then end of the day you have no dopamine (motivation) left to pursue any other goal, and the more you stimulate yourself with bad habits the worse your Baseline of dopamine gets, so next day you only have 99, then 98, 97 etc. Fix this back to 100 by doing good habits that don’t overstimulate you and give huge dopamine spikes.

      Does the mind even exist though!! All negative thoughts and ideas and all the stories the mind churns out are just illusions and basically dreams. The root cause of all human suffering is the mind. If we didn't have a mind there would be no suffering. All negative thoughts don't exist unlike Physical Matter which can be proven to exist because we can taste and touch it. We can see the trees and the sun and the moon and the buildings but thoughts are just illusions and dreams and have no truth or reality to them. Meditation and Mindfulness brings one into a place of 'No mind'. Our minds make so much noise that we cannot notice The Present Moment. Thru Meditation our minds begin to calm down and we can see Life more Clearly and feel An Overwhelming Joy and Peace that is beyond all human understanding.

      Trying to resolve a possible dopamine issue should be done *before* any kind of medical test. If these steps don't work, the test may be useful, but a medical test is a more serious treatment and therefore comes after initial at-home steps.

    Question Dr amen, if it turns out to be that one truly does have a low dopamine , how do we fix this naturally, I know low dopamine can be related to adhd.

    • @madisonhealey
      @madisonhealey Год назад +21

      severely decrease or fast from things that spike dopamine too high in the short term (which triggers body response to lower naturally produced dopamine to reach homeostasis) This includes things like watching TV, scrolling on social media, sugar, video games, drugs, junk food, gambling etc. Then engage in activities that are challenging uncomfortable, or even painful. This discomfort triggers more dopamine to be naturally produced. Things like exercise, stretching, meditation, freezing cold showers, or other physically strenuous activities work really well to balance our natural dopamine production in the long run.

      @@madisonhealey Omgoodness?! This makes so much sense. I’ve been taking adderall for 15 years for my adhd. I’ve suspected that taking it has lowered my natural dopamine levels bc when I forget to take it or take a break due ti illness, pregnancy etc. my level of functioning is so much lower than it ever was before I started taking stimulants. But my compulsive desire for “quick fix” dopamine (tv, shopping, scrolling, food, etc.) is actually lower when I’m not taking anything. I’m sitting staring at the walls, but not nearly as compulsive and “seeking” as when I get a regular adderall dopamine dose. It’s almost like the more dopamine you get from outside sources- the more you desire, but never actually feel satisfied or complete. Maybe I’ll try again to stop for awhile and try to start exercising,and some of the other natural ways to raise dopamine that you suggested. It’s like the more you get the more you crave- like a drug addict even tho I’m not addicted. I’ve stopped for months at a time “just to see” if it’s helping or not. But to tell the truth my overall ability to get things done and move towards my goals has actually gone down since starting adderall. I finished college, masters degree, raised children, kept a home, etc. without stimulants. Definitely struggled through all of that, but can’t even fathom being able to function at that level now. Started stimulants to fill in the gaps and make things easier- but it actually seems to have done the opposite. I’m just mired down in obsessive thought patterns, compulsive shopping, and can’t make even the smallest decision- which keeps me stuck and not able to accomplish anything. And I think the stimulants have raised my cortisol levels, blood sugar etc. Do you have more info on your theory?? I’m really interested in learning more about how to get back to a functional life- more than what my psych has to offer which is just drugs. Thx!!

    • @gibson17155
      @gibson17155 Год назад

      @@parsa5226 that was a joke, hence the #parkinsonssquad part. Parkinson’s disease is caused by destruction of the neurons that release dopamine in a specific pathway in the brain (nigrostriatal pathway). You can have “feel good” dopamine and still have Parkinson’s, so it’s not extremely low dopamine, it’s a lack of dopamine in a specific area of the brain. They are two completely different neural pathways. You are not incorrect by saying that you can have low dopamine without having Parkinson’s, but you can have normal dopamine everywhere but the nigrostriatal pathway and still have Parkinson’s.
