It would be injustice to say that only Henrik goes on beast mode. The vocals is monstrously spectacular and the drums so nuanced I can certainly discern ghost notes, all the time!😲
And played on a 6 string with perfect muting on top of it and super clean hearing all notes. Although my favorite is the Work shit out on the fretless. The grove is just crazy along with drummer.
Man that song is my favorite for sure! I did a little cover on it…not henrik lol but just enjoying what he brings to bass playing! ruclips.net/video/Mk2CsbJW-rs/видео.html
I'll be honest, I clicked on this video to see a lengthy compilation of Henrik absolutely losing which is worth its own price of admission. What I wasn't expecting was to see you breaking it down and as if to have us get things twisted, you actually _played_ those parts note for note. Subscribed!
It's funny - I personally wouldn't have picked these 3 examples as "going beast mode". As someone who was very heavily influenced by Mark King when I first started playing bass, slap lines like these don't particularly terrify me - it's Henrik's fingerstyle playing that makes me want to give up!
Scott, I really like seeing Henrik because he's soo good at filling in where he needs to and shining when it is required. Also, in regards to other "Beast Mode" interviews, I'm curious as to why you haven't done anything SERIOUS with Davie504. He's a phenomenal BASSist and has managed to become one of RUclips's more famous denizens while playing some ridiculously good BASS in the process. If you could get a SERIOUS interview instead of his RUclips "Schtick" it would be very interesting to get an insight into him and his playing too. Of course, in the same breath, you could also look at Charles Berthoud too who flows so smoothly from tap to slap to just flatout beast-mode DragonForce-esque thumbing. As an old-fart BASSist, I really enjoy your channel, but also see a lot of these younger folks playing so good too (which makes me wish I had something like RUclips when I was much younger instead of them crappy StarLicks transcriptions on tapes and VHS). They have stuff to share too and your platform is an outstanding BASS-orientated place to talk about it without the veneer of eye-gasm-y RUclips obnoxiosity. Thanks! And thanks for your BASS passion too!
What a super review and reviewer! I'm one of the millions that can't get enough of Dirty Loops. It's interesting that Henrik gets so much (very deserved) praise. Interesting in that as a keyboard player, I focus on Jonah's genius. All 3 are brilliant - I doubt too many would disagree. A true gestalt.
I don’t even listen to this band and don’t think I’ve heard them before but because of this video, I stumbled across another great bass player...also, the way you are breaking down the slap technique in this video (especially with the over fretboard graphics) is extremely helpful to me and I appreciate the through effort on your part...not just a great beast mode video, but an excellent mini slap tutorial as well...nicely done..!
As a guitarist, I am so amazed by the percussive elements in these pieces. The scales/notes are not extremely complex, but the rhythm and dead notes make these pieces SOOO much more difficult. They sound amazing though! I'm going to dedicate some time to learn more bass. Such a cool instrument.
Jeff Ament (Pearl jam) Edward Jackson (Queensrych) Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) Larry Graham, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) Bobby Vega, Bootsy Collins
I am old school need to check out everything. You and your guest are awsom.and will get it together. At the age 67 I will be better before I get to heaven.LOL THANKS FOR YOUR GITFS AND SKILLS.
Love to see Alain Caron - turkey loose on the kit from 2005 Montreal live session. Insane playing unbelievable slap and groove from bass line to solo crashed my head
Brilliant to see this. I’m addicted to watching Led Zeppelin clips on RUclips and wondered if you were aware of John Paul Jones ‘beast mode’ during Jimmy Pages solo, in ‘In The Evening’..
Awesome slap technique! You have featued many bass players from different styles, but there is one that is very underated and overlooked though he is quite expressive and skilled on fretless bass. Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, and other projects. The song Breath on the Singles sound track is what first me aware that they had a fretless bass player, and I started listening closer to their other songs and realized that there are lots of subtle slides and harmonics on most of their songs. This guy is the one that really got me interested in fretless bass, especially with a rock band. I would like to see a good feature on him and give him some overdue credit. Just my 2 cents....lol
Jack Bruce, Les Claypool, Jack Cassidy, Flea, Harris, Rob Trujillo, Geoffrey Lyall (aka Klaus Flouride), JPJ, Sir. Paul, And Pete Bremy Just to name a few. Would be awesome Lessons like this one.
Do MonoNeon but do maybe 10 at least! In my opinion, his bass playing and riffs sound very different from a lot of other guys. His timing and note choice is.....so funky! And he’s able to play flashy stuff which is awesome but mainly stay really restrained and deep as ever in the pocket, which is most important. I said it on another comment, but Scott should do a reaction video to Milkshake by Ghost Note (written by Mono). The bridge bass riff with the Whammy pedal......funkiest thing I’ve heard in a long time!
BRROOO!! The entire Jeff Beck "Wired" album with Wilbur Bascombe on bass!!! OOWWEEE!! Jeff Beck on guitar, Jan Hammer on keyboard's, Narada Michael Walden on drums and the one and only way underrated Wilbur Bascombe on bass!!! Check out "Led Boots", a controlled musical frenzy of funk fusion Twister, "Come Dancing", a tutorial on groove keeping, and "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat", bluesy, fat, & extremely melodic bass playing!! This cat is serious!! God-bless !!!
Kyle Brock's bass work on Eric Johnson's tracks "Zap", And "Cliffs of Dover" is epic! Update: And also "High Landrons" by Eric Johnson. Kyle Brock is basically beast mode on the whole track!
John Myung of Dream Theater Paolo Gregoletto of Trivium All the other choices I can think of you guys have already covered in other types of content but my third choice is Les Claypool of Primus. Love the vids and the SBL academy. Only wish there was more coverage on modern rock and metal.
Hi Scott - Two of my main influences are Mick Karn (Japan) and Pino Palladino both great fretless players, would be great if you did a feature on them. Also Mark King - King of the slap basslines. Many thanks - Dave
This was great! Love these beast mode break downs. I’d really like to see one on Ben Kenney of Incubus. His solo in the look alive dvd of sick sad little world is great. 12th fret harmonics as the bridge begins to open up is incredible! He’s one my all time favourites!
I just watched it because of your recommendation. Yeah, he is usually chill, but he not only went beast mode, but he got his groove and the groove got him! And the Spirit! Thanks, JIm!
I may be wrong , but i've never seen a video featuring Mark King on this channel . The funny thing is that the " intro triplet" is exactly the tecnique that Mark King himself has implemented from the drums in the early '80s ( being himself a drummer). A review of one of his incredible solos would be much appreciated.
I don’t mean this offensively at all, but hearing you play those boots parts just makes me realize how much better Heidrick is then we even realize. Like no one can play his base parts and make them sound of the way he makes him sound.
Mike Dirnt (Green Day), Matt freeman (Rancid,op Ivy), honestly any punk bass player would be awesome to see on this channel, bass in punk music is treated so often with a lead instrument mindset that there are some incredible bass lines and solos y'all are sleepin on.
How about Eugene Abdukhanov from Jinjer? The intro to Who Is Gonna Be The One live at Atlas, the ending of Teacher, Teacher! and the clean section of Perennial are some wonderful examples of his playing
IMO, Henrick Linder is always playing in the beast mode=)
Ю гат дэм райт!
I’d love to see a Mohini Dey when she played Mala-Dey she went beast mode
Or Federico Malaman playing Doctor Mike that was dope!
w0rd
Abraham Laboriel
yeah, the guy has no chill lol
I think the whole band goes beast mode.
Yeah exactly
Richard bona beast mode please !!
@Paulonbass OnBass so true
It would be injustice to say that only Henrik goes on beast mode. The vocals is monstrously spectacular and the drums so nuanced I can certainly discern ghost notes, all the time!😲
It’s just Dirty Loops, Man 😃
He's fantastic. His work on "bitten by the kitten" is absolutely nuts how consistent he keeps his 8th notes.
Dirty loops is killer, one of the greatest bands of the now. Henrick is phenomenal
My favorite bassist!!!
And played on a 6 string with perfect muting on top of it and super clean hearing all notes. Although my favorite is the Work shit out on the fretless. The grove is just crazy along with drummer.
Yeah I can barely hold down the muting on a 4 string, but note that he's using a fretwrap to mute the strings @VoxTone2009
....
Man that song is my favorite for sure! I did a little cover on it…not henrik lol but just enjoying what he brings to bass playing! ruclips.net/video/Mk2CsbJW-rs/видео.html

He also played them with two less strings, which makes it feel even more approachable!
We need more Henrick Linder =)))
It's funny - I personally wouldn't have picked these 3 examples as "going beast mode". As someone who was very heavily influenced by Mark King when I first started playing bass, slap lines like these don't particularly terrify me - it's Henrik's fingerstyle playing that makes me want to give up!
Love that perfectly timed hair blow he does at 4:09

The late, great Mick Karn from the band Japan going groove beast mode. A fretless wonder. Please.
Yesss
😍

Henrik Master Mind!!!!
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much Scott !!!
1) Doug Keyser
2) Sean Malone
3) Steve Di Giorgio

Thank you, you a real good Bass Player and teacher
Jeff Ament (Pearl jam) Edward Jackson (Queensrych) Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) Larry Graham, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) Bobby Vega, Bootsy Collins
Thanks for this tecnic. Thanks all bassist un the world!! Greething from south argentina
I am old school need to check out everything.
You and your guest are awsom.and will get it together. At the age 67 I will be better before I get to heaven.LOL
THANKS FOR YOUR GITFS AND SKILLS.
Hey Scott! I have 3 bass players in mind.
1. Billy Sheehan (Specifically maybe a performance with Mr. Big.)
2. Larry Graham
3. Geddy Lee
Scott - very impressed! Of you!
"If you're thinking im gonna transcribe that line for ya..." 😂😂
what a player, absolute savage, 🔥🔥🏴
Wow, just wow! speechless here...
Love to see Alain Caron - turkey loose on the kit from 2005 Montreal live session. Insane playing unbelievable slap and groove from bass line to solo crashed my head
He's amazing!
Never heard of 'em, couldn't be all that good.
oh my gosh......Henrick is unreal.....
the original Scott is back!
I love the new things in the latest videos, like the tab notations plus visual elements on your videos Scott!
Yeah! Wow! Keep 'em comin' Scott!
Brilliant to see this. I’m addicted to watching Led Zeppelin clips on RUclips and wondered if you were aware of John Paul Jones ‘beast mode’ during Jimmy Pages solo, in ‘In The Evening’..
SUPERB LESSON THANKS SCOTT cheers
Thank you for yours specific learning scenarios. Of course everything is easy for you! Maybe easy for me too when time is falling. Lowe what you do!
Wow I like the first one. It sounds amazing in the mix.
Thank you Scott! Nice and interesting format!
Billy Sheehan 1) on the cover of Rush's La Villa Strangiato on the album Working Man. 2) On the first Niacin album, the solo track Clean Up Crew.
Yooooo this is freaking HYPE! Thanks for the guide and tips and tabs!
Awesome slap technique!

that glove he is wearing is terrifying. great video
My favorite bassist!! Yeahh
Scott, thank you so much for detailing the JUst dance base line, other vidoes out there don't have it at all.
Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, Eugene Kostyuk from the band Jinjer
Jack Bruce,
Les Claypool,
Jack Cassidy,
Flea,
Harris,
Rob Trujillo,
Geoffrey Lyall (aka Klaus Flouride),
JPJ,
Sir. Paul,
And Pete Bremy

Would be awesome
Lessons like this one.
Don't know how I forgot to mention him but...
You should definitely do one of these on Chris Wood. Foe sho

My jaw hits the floor with every song they release
As a 16 year old hendrik has blown my mind I hope I can slap as well as him one day cos it sounds so good.
BRROOO!! The entire Jeff Beck "Wired" album with Wilbur Bascombe on bass!!! OOWWEEE!! Happy new year Scott
Henrik is a beast!!
That Ken Smith Bass... I´m jealous ;-)
..and - all the best for you and your Dearest and your plans for 2021!
SMOOTH AF!!!😎
Just keep on transcribing Henriks work with Dirty Loops, please. There is a never ending source of material to use.
Kyle Brock's bass work on Eric Johnson's tracks "Zap", And "Cliffs of Dover" is epic!
Update: And also "High Landrons" by Eric Johnson. Kyle Brock is basically beast mode on the whole track!
John Myung of Dream Theater
Paolo Gregoletto of Trivium

Love the vids and the SBL academy. Only wish there was more coverage on modern rock and metal.
the text on the neck @5:17 is top notch
Nice Scott, I love the tone that your getting. 🎸 👍
Hi Scott - Two of my main influences are Mick Karn (Japan) and Pino Palladino both great fretless players, would be great if you did a feature on them. Also Mark King - King of the slap basslines. Many thanks - Dave
He did Palladino ages ago. Great vid too. Browse his lib, you'll find it
Great timing, I've been practicing slap techniques but had no licks whatsoever. Thanks, Scott!
CHARLES BERTHOUD!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Henrik # beast mode! You too Scotty
Please sir feature john patitucci and mark king,,,merry christmas here in philippines.😘😘😘
We just gonna ignore the bass solo on World On Fire?
This is crazy 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Remco's Groove lab, he has some really cool vids
This was great! Love these beast mode break downs. I’d really like to see one on Ben Kenney of Incubus. His solo in the look alive dvd of sick sad little world is great. 12th fret harmonics as the bridge begins to open up is incredible! He’s one my all time favourites!
Alain Caron Beast mode!!!, including end of penny arcade solo.
Steve Bailey would be sick, especially all his work with Victor Wooten
Yes please
When Abraham Laboriel went beast mode on “Ancient of Days” with Ron Kenoly
We need this video too
Yes
I just watched it because of your recommendation. Yeah, he is usually chill, but he not only went beast mode, but he got his groove and the groove got him! And the Spirit! Thanks, JIm!
I have that on old Skule VHS!
I'm with you. First bass solo I learnt back in the day.
Jimmy Johnson. Tried to read all the comments but didn´t see his name. Awesome player, he played a lot with Allan Holdworth both live and on records.
Wojtek Pilichowski. Real monster of slap.
You are a serious player Scott
When Wojtek Pilichowski went beast mode please!
Great Stuff
Henrik is an absolute MONSTER! You should profile Glecio Nacimento also...one of the most frightening guys I've I've ever seen!
Me encantaría ver un Beast Mode con Wojtek Pilichowski, me encanta tu canal lo sigo desde hace mucho tiempo, saludos desde México.
"Hammer on the D. Thumb the D." - Ouch!
I don’t mean this offensively at all, but hearing you play those boots parts just makes me realize how much better Heidrick is then we even realize. Like no one can play his base parts and make them sound of the way he makes him sound.
‘I’ve got kids!’ 🤣🤣🤣
David Pastorius is one I’d love to see you pick his brain!!! Amazing bassist and cool kat!!
Love to see you feature John Stockman of Karnivool. He does a play through for “Goliath” that he did to mainly show off his pedal from darkglass.
Let’s see some Claypool!
It would be fun to see billy sheehan going beast mode
Great Job, but I miss the hardest part in "rock you" ;)
Been playing 40 years, never was a slap bassist. Would love to see you mimic Justin Chancellor.
Brian Bromberg in beast mode PLEASE!!
I would like to say Louis Johnson’s Slap technique 👍🎶
Mike Dirnt (Green Day), Matt freeman (Rancid,op Ivy), honestly any punk bass player would be awesome to see on this channel, bass in punk music is treated so often with a lead instrument mindset that there are some incredible bass lines and solos y'all are sleepin on.
Bloody Henrick the smirking slap goblin! Gaaaaahhhhhhh!!!! That's it. I'm off to the shed...
Yes I would like to see on your video Abraham Laboriel’s technique of slap 🎶
ruclips.net/video/fyfNoD6nJAw/видео.html 40mins of the great man 😊
How about Eugene Abdukhanov from Jinjer? The intro to Who Is Gonna Be The One live at Atlas, the ending of Teacher, Teacher! and the clean section of Perennial are some wonderful examples of his playing
1. Abraham Laboriel
2. Amos Williams: TesseracT - Utopia
3. Kinga Glyk
“World on Fire” is the tune you need to listen to. This the beast mode no.1

Matt Freeman beast mode!! PLEASE
