I don't agree that the elements we see introduced in DBZ are what make Dragonball, Dragonball. I think it's the story and the characters. The other stuff is just what's most iconic about Dragonball. But I definitely agree that Goku's characterization really came out for the first time in the Saiyan saga whereas he didn't have much of it before then... The friendship between Gohan and Piccolo was also pivotal to the story, and one of the series best character and relationship arcs... Another thing about this arc is that the stakes and tension were at their peak: Most of the heroes got taken down before Vegeta even lifted a finger against them, and even Piccolo died taking Kami with him. Ultimate, the two sides fought to the last man in a very desperate back-and-forth battle that left everyone dead or on their last legs. And this was before we learn about any alternate set of Dragonballs, giving the consequences a true feeling if permeance - Similarly to when King Piccolo destroyed Shenron. It truly felt like they had just fought a war by the end of it. Seriously, it was one of the greatest battles in Dragonball...
I dont agree goku fighting nature existed way before when chi chi asked him to do something enjoyable he hits her😂, and he also gave senzu beans to picolo so him begging krillin to let veget go wasn't something new at all I think the namek saga was the best arc in db series , it just feel like it is the actual story ending
