Yes he did! Walter von Känel is a one of a kind personality! He built Longines after the quartz crisis and developed the brand to become on of the biggest Swiss watch brands ...
Longines has a special place in my heart, especially the Heritage collection. At the end of the summer, if things are still under control, I'm planning to visit their Museum.
I'm a big Longines fans. Like them basically for two reasons: - As Matthias said: the brand is so elegant and stylish. The designs are really classy and timeless. Very "italian". The watches not only look refined, but also look well on the wrist. That's important, after a watch is meant to be worn. - The prices. Most of the watches have a price of a flagship smartphone, which we change every 2-3 years and a Longines watch can last years. Also, let's be frank: those watches look more expensive than they are.
I was lucky enough to try the new Spirit models at my AD recently and i must say i was pleasantly surprised with the quality and the looks of both the 3 hand and chrono model. They look like very high end watches. Bravo Longines.
Very nice interview, very professional and compelling. I find that it is a big mistake of the Swatch Group not to have put the Longines in the high-end niche regarding the incredible history of that mythical brand. Longines is great and deserve more !
It was a decision made by Nicolas G. Hayek, that Omega should be ahead of Longines... In fact both brands could easily stand beside and compete against Rolex ...
Fascinating - these CEO interviews are very interesting. Longines is certainly moving up - let's hope Matthias can hold the momentum. I've recently bought Spirit and Avigation BigEye watches and have found the quality and designs exemplary - equal to watches costing 2,3,4X the price. I hope some smaller designs can be incorporated in the sports/heritage ranges - opening up the brand to the smaller wristed and young women who want something different to the dress classics of the range. I hope they are not held back by SWATCH!
Hi Alexander ich mag Deine Videos anzuschauen, es ist wirklich schön das Du direkt zu den Marken gehts und dort die Beiträge filmst. LG aus Berlin von einem SwatchGroup Mitarbeiter
I just added a Longines to my collection, Legend Diver in bronze with green dégradé dial. It's a stunning watch. Absolutely love it. Thank you for this excellent video!
Well I am really a big Longines fan and collector and I am Austrian! 😀 just yesterday I bought two Longines Chronographs one being a monopusher the other the 1967 Diver and I have also the Bigeye, the 1945, the Legend Diver, dolce vita, HydroConquest…I love them all. Pls stay on course with these astonishing heritage models they are absolutely gorgeous! Btw I also love my Hamiltons….
I also own the Heritage Diver 1967 chronograph. The Bordeaux bezel insert is just perfect, has a column wheel chrono movement and great box sapphire crystal.
Bought my first Longines HydroConquest 3 months back. I would agree with Alexander..you need to compare!. Next in my list is Longines Spirit!. Perhaps once this pandemic is over, I would visit Switzerland again and ofcourse, Saint-Imier!. Thumbs Up! for the great interview perhaps we can dig from Matthias Breschan some inside secrets of what to come? ;)
Has something to do with ultra-precision ... will in fact be a huge surprise... Congratulations to your HydroConquest! May it always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours...
I really like what Longines has been doing lately. I got my Heritage Military pilot's watch in 2019 and am planning on getting the Silver Arrow. I wish I can tell Matthias to start bringing heritage models on bracelets as I'm a bracelet guy. The Silver Arrow should've come with that option.
@@WatchAdvisor Agree. Bracelets for some of these heritage models would be amazing. A nice beads of rice with at minimum 4 micro adjustments for the Heritage Diver would ensure its spot in my collection (and possibly even replace my Seamaster or Black Bay)
It's so amazing how I want vintage Longines and new Longines at the same time. The value is so good for complications and materials. I really enjoy my pieces as I would much more expensive brands I own. I am very excited to pick up the new big eye in blue.
Thank you for the video. It's great to see the Longines HQ too. I recently purchased the matte black Spirit version and definitely concur with your view of Longines in terms of VFM.
It’s difficult to think of a brand with such history, quality and design at this price point. Perhaps the best possible when all the factors are weighed.
@@WatchAdvisor it’s an English turn of phrase. What I should have done is to add “to think of another brand with such history, quality and design”, which would have made more sense. My apologies. I’m challenged because English is my first language. 🤣😉

Hello! I got the Spirit in black dial and bracelet a week ago and it is a fantastic watch! I love the design of the silver arrow! Can you please convice Matthias to make it at least 50 m so we can enjoy it as a sporty elegant watch too?
I already talked to him that they should increase WR to at least 50, better 100 meters… May your Longines always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
@@WatchAdvisor That is great I hope they will do it! For sure Spirit is a big success! 100 m, fantastic lume, beautiful dial, what someone can ask for more? Thank you for your wonderful wish! I always watch you with high interest!
Thank you Alexander and Matthias for sharing. Currently I do not own a Longines watch but that will change as they are occupying a few places in my watch list, more than any other brand in that list at the moment. The Heritage Sector, Tuxedo and Legend Diver. I can't have all three so it will be a tough decision when I'm able to get the first one.
@@WatchAdvisor That's a tough question to answer Alexander as they are all different. Fortunately a decision that I don't have to make right now. As of today I think the Sector would be the one I'd go for with the Tuxedo tied with the Legend Diver.
Hello Alexander very nice interview !!! Do you think you can make one special interview to Jean Claude Biver. Could be very nice too regards from Doha Qatar. Dr Alejandro Kovacs
So what happened in the Longines long story that it went from top notch watch producer to middle level watch producer ? the 70 crisis I guess was managed wrong?
Hydroconquest is amazing tool watch the quartz movement is £830 and all the quality also keeps the time so perfect watch to rotate with. Let me know ifnyoy need one.
Wonderful watches but.....; lugs too long, box too big, poor quality straps ! Please Longines, a luxury box is unecessary. Instead provide a good quality strap, improve water resistance and remove date windows from 'Heritage' models where they did not have them before. Thank you for great watches.
Does Longiness really exist? Does Longiness have own assembly lines, own engineers, etc? It seems No - I have never heard about their own factories. It's just a part of Swatch Group now - just a word on the dials of the Swatch Group watches and nothing else. The same I can say about Certina, Tissot, Hamilton, Calvin Clein. This looks like fraud.
I want you to excuse for writing “fraud”. Not knowing/understanding how the Swatch Group is organized does not entitle you to write such nonsense. Once you wrote and published your excuse I will with pleasure give you some insights…
@@WatchAdvisor , no excuses at all. Despite of Swatch group does not like to share any information about it but something is already known. For example Certina and Tissot do not have own engineers - same designers works for these "brands". It's a shame. I can guess the same about the other "brands" from this segment. It's easy to notice - if you have eyes you can see a lot of simularity between them. Also interesting to know about their factories. Which brands have own assembly lines, etc. Swatch group has unified a lot. For me they "killed" the brands they bought.
False allegations! Once again: Not knowing/understanding how the Swatch Group is organized does not entitle you to write such nonsense. You don't even know that Calvin Klein is no longer part of the group ...
@@WatchAdvisor about the fraud - it would be more fair to write on dials of their watches "Certina by Swatch group", "Tissot by Swatch group", "Longiness by Swatch group", "Rado by Swatch...". But they even do not mention about Swatch on their watches.
