It’s so annoying this year. I play against noobs but they just run through my defence. I can predict almost everything my opponent is going to do but I still can’t stop it. I try different tactics, right stick switching (which only goes to the right player about 30% of the time) L1 switching goes to the right player about 10% of the time. Somebody needs to make a series where people send gameplay videos of their horrific defending and you could analyse it and tell us where we are going wrong. I think it’s a great idea for a mini series. Please consider it. I have tons of videos of me getting torn apart over and over again. It sucks because I like fifa and find it fun. Most people would tell me just to quit but I want to play the game. I just want to learn how to defend.
i have almost given up on this game because defending is impossible I know what I want to do but when I try to do it it takes 10 years to switch my player or it switches to the wrong one I don't understand why they needed to change defending completely when it wasn't a problem typical EA changes stuf that works into shit that doesn't. also my midfielders are irrelevant noobs run right past them

Manual switch and doing it at the same moment the oponent passes the ball plus running with the direction of the ball so you don't switch and start running to the oposite way... I can win when I'm 100% sweating there doing this 😂😂😢😂
It's more difficult for defenders to recover this year with jockey. The best advice is just stand your ground and don't push defenders out of position. As soon as opponents see you're a aggressive defender they'll just do the controlled sprint and all of a sudden you're behind
Exactly. I flick to the defender closest to the runner and track his run staying goal side. Hold r1 so the AI presses the ball and then try to flick to the defender that's pressing at the right moment to make the challenge.
Defending is the only part of my game that is lacking, I score a lot and also concede a lot, so I'm looking forward to implementing these tips into my game. Especially the sliding block, it looks like it would be very useful.

I honestly stopped jockying outside the box and it helped tremendously. Aggression is also a very very important stat. It makes it easier to get the ball when tackling even when tackling is suspect this year.
@@unknownchristian341 I’m noticing pace off the ball with aggression makes it easy to get the ball. You should try to not pull players out of positions especially center backs because they usually are the best at jockying that’s why if I’m in the box jockying is just much better. If people r using the r1 dribbling on the wing , stick to sprinting until u r either beside them or in front of them and use the jocky button as a “brake” like a car, and if u can get the ball just do a standing tackle. That’s about it for my tips.
So true every time I used jockey outside the box it was useless players don't stick close enough to Opponents and even if they do they won't get the ball especially in the wings it just slows you down

As stupid as that sounds but I found that not pressing anything, literally just standing in the way while walking, gives the best results in blocking passes or even tackling an opponent. It seems to me that the L2 jockey variations make your player less dense and higher the chance of the ball flying "through" you.
There has to be something to this.. i think one can over complicate themselves and get their anticipation wrong by trying too hard with defending. I remember a game last year in rivals, im playing this guy whilst at work, so had to put the controller down for a few mins.. the guy hadn’t scored against me until i got back 😂 then he scored when i was actually controlling 🤦🏻♂️

I'm still not sure if I like the defending more this year or not, but one mentality change for me is, in previous FIFA, jockey is a move that trying to be passive and be patient, it is spammable and low risk, this year's jockey is actually a decisive move , like sliding tackle, where you shouldn't use it unless you have to, or your defenders will break ankle so easily
So far best I've seen and I haven't even played the game yet 😂. Watching vids as its downloadeding for my cb pro club player. Thus I think i have a special pov on it. The tutorials so far have all reminded me of one thing above all, rocket league. In that game, 1v1s defending wise its all about shadowing. So jockeying and staying close enough to put pressure but not fully commit so one single move. Also, all vids so far have favored tactical defense. Another is playing as a unit. Like in rocket league 2v2s, if someone is on the attack and you're both back. The closest one to the atk commits and makes the attacker have to do something. That's when the last one back cleans it up and gets possession. Anyway, I'm excited for it regardless of the comments saying its currently broken.

Even more bad, that happens when I play against the AI, but I'm still very good online when I play Seasons. Now I play EA FC, and I have the same very frustrating problem.
The best way to defend is ironically to not defend. Keep the ball and keep it simple. Only attempt stand tackles with anticipate players. You also need to get into the mindset of losing the ball on the dribble than losing the ball on a misplaced pass. The ball travels much faster than your players so losing the ball on a bad pass means your players aren't in shape.
It’s always funny to me watching these guides besides the new mechanics added to the game I’ve been doing all this stuff since FIFA 12 obviously you couldn’t tell the AI when to press that’s gotten way better but I’ve been super good at defense even since FIFA 12. I remember counting how many interceptions I could get and I use to avg about 45-50 a game in vs Division 1 players. Always have loved defense this year it feels a bit trash tho.
Hensley didn’t think I’d ever need to have one of these videos in previous FIFA’s I could defend very in fact it was the one thing that kept me from plummeting out of several rewards in squad battles and rivals but now the defending is so confusing for not reason
Hello Boras, I've given this FC24 a try after disbanding Fifa years ago. In both offence and defence I find my players often just standing still, 0,0 AI, runs or pressure at all. If I try to defence I just do more harm than nothing. I did well in Fifa series before. At 09:08 you're saying to use standing tackle "sometimes". How do take over te ball without doing this? It makes sense why I mess up that often because doing a standing tackle most of the time to take over the ball. Just running up to them ain't working either... So confused. Hopefully you can help me understand this maybe easy basic thing about defending in FC24
I haven't played fifa in 3 years. Coming back to FC24 the first 50 games were tough, I maybe won max 5 to 10 of them, but once you get used to the defending, attacking is extremely easy. Lack of content is what's ruining it for me

Passing seems to be more difficult than ever, so does attacking. I can't keep possession for a long time and it's just annoying af... @@arjienridderstap7770 don't leave ur defenders in isolated positions as Boras said, because it's way harder now with the ice skating effect to defend, always have support and try force 2v1 situations as much as possible without moving ur CBs out of position. For example if ur defending with the LB or RB bring the CM to force a 2v1 or block the space to pass into midfield

I actually like the defending in this game, because it fits my play style. It benefits the manual defenders, that know when to step into a passing lane (even tho the pass correction is still really bad). Previous fifas I always struggled, because I was just not a fan of passive defending, while the AI is doing most of the work for you. I luckily adapted really quick and had no problem getting into div 5 during early access. The only thing that concerns me about the gameplay is how MUCH of an impact better players with meta playstyles make. A Mbappe is even more of a cheat code than the year before and defenders like van Dijk or varane are insane, even better than an eder militao, who has better stats but no playstyle+. The finesse shot and crossing playstyle+ are also broken. This could create a „pay to win“ gap never seen before…

By using the right instructions telling the players where to go for example: when using a 4-3-3 have one winger to come back on defence and the other to stay forward then the cm on the opposite side to the winger needs to be on cover wing while the other 2 are on cover center

I'm on the same boat man, I played this game since its inception and this year is really unenjoyable with the over complicated defending
Having tried both, i much more prefer tactical. Advanced is only marginally better when played perfectly and is MUCH more prone to error.

It benefits the manual defenders, that know when to step into a passing lane (even tho the pass correction is still really bad). Previous fifas I always struggled, because I was just not a fan of passive defending, while the AI is doing most of the work for you. I luckily adapted really quick and had no problem getting into div 5 during early access. The only thing that concerns me about the gameplay is how MUCH of an impact better players with meta playstyles make. A Mbappe is even more of a cheat code than the year before and defenders like van Dijk or varane are insane, even better than an eder militao, who has better stats but no playstyle+. The finesse shot and crossing playstyle+ are also broken. This could create a „pay to win“ gap never seen before…

This isn’t really about defending but passing is absolutely horrible this year. The player Ai just automatically intercepts any pass that that is close to it every time with out fail. You can’t bypass an opponent’s player with a pass at all. It’s a broken system.”!
turn on the precision passing ooption i went up to over 90 percent pass rate after using it.

Quick question: how can you tweak a formation to make it defend as a 4-4-2 do you have to switch to defensive or is there a way to make it automatic?
By using the right instructions telling the players where to go for example: when using a 4-3-3 have one winger to come back on defence and the other to stay forward then the cm on the opposite side to the winger needs to be on cover wing while the other 2 are on cover center
