    There's something comforting about seeing someone with this much skill and talent still doing silly things like accidentally gluing your sock to the inside of the body suit lmao. Very human moment

  • @valleb9689

    Your mould wasn't working bc the uv resin needs light to cure, and the silicone is not transparent ehough. Small piece gets lit enough to cure, but the bigger shapes don't. They make transparent silicone so you still can use uv resin, or you can look into fast-curing two-part resins (but they are toxic when curing, so obv work needs to be done in a well-ventillater area and with a respiratir on). Hope this helps!

    • @mostlyghostey
      @mostlyghostey 5 месяцев назад +1

      I’m pretty new to UV resin. Does it not kick like typical resin? I thought if any part got light and was hot enough it would cause a chain reaction like when regular resin gets poured too deep and the heat of the reaction speeds up the curing process.

    • @valleb9689
      @valleb9689 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@mostlyghostey It doesn't, unfourtunatly. No light no cure, it can even stay goopy in a bad case.

    • @mostlyghostey
      @mostlyghostey 5 месяцев назад +2

      Dang. That’s too bad.

    • @TheLostTVRemote
      @TheLostTVRemote 5 месяцев назад +6

      Little addition: You're not supposed to do deep or big pours in UV resin, because it will not cure correctly. You should do these in layers, but the layer lines will show on the sides.
      You can get rid of some bubbles with a lighter or a heat gun. Wait a little for them to rise to the surface.
      Also very important: Wear gloves, some kind of eye protection and a mask while workig with resin of any type, and work in a ventilated area. It's super toxic.

      So sad that the silicone mold didn't work as intended. Did you try hot glue at like a later point? That usually works as a easy "casting" material too

  • @constancebaker6137
    @constancebaker6137 5 месяцев назад +6

    So with the mold and foam clay, once the clay is in the mold put it in the freezer for like 15-30 minutes. At least until it’s frozen and the pop them out of the mold. Out of the mold they’re dry by air since all the clay is in the air rather than hidden in the mold. They’ll dry quicker out of the mold, just set them on a plate or somewhere to rest, not touching any of the other pieces so they don’t dry connected. Usually dry within 24 hours depending on brand.

    If the UV resin wasn't working and neither was foam clay, I would have used hot glue to fill the mold and see if that works. It is quick and would work well with the silicone mold.

    Baby cosplayer here - I've basically only done one full outfit but had the BEST time doing it and would love to do more. Watching this was SO informative, inspiring and useful ... it'll be a massive help on future projects for me and made me smile at how many of the same issues it seems even pro-level cosplayers have that I had putting my first outfit together. Awesome Orin cosplay and can't wait to see your Dame Aylin!

    Love your video only 17 min in but wanted to pop in and say if you want to make a lot of foam clay details from molds (like you tried) but you don't want to deal with the drying time just put it in the freezer for 30 min. De mold it and set it on a drying rack and then rise and repeat. The frozen clay makes it stiff enough to pop out of the mold with the details still intact.

    @17:48 if you try these again with foam clay, try putting them in the freezer for a bit and then taking them out of the mold to dry. freezing them helps keep them solid enough to get them out of the mold without ruining them, and then you can lay them flat to dry somewhere else.

    With those silicone moulds, I've seen people (Prickly Alpaca does this very well) fill them with hot glue and get workable shapes out very quickly! Just check the temperature the silicone can withstand and compare that to your hot glue gun's working temperature. I hope this helps you in the future

    Also great video! Fun to watch as always (and I love the music you put in. Can only say that again)
    The mic works pretty well and is more consistent I think. The phone audio can be good sometimes (eg. 10:00) or meh (eg. 3:40), but having a consistent distance with the lav helps I guess. Could also pin it to the sweater and not hold it up in front even though thats how its done today I guess :D
