As a former christian, I know that if you buy into the bible, it is easy to believe crazier and crazier shit. Even after leaving the faith, I still found myself falling for things like spirit science and reincarnation. All this stuff makes you feel special, like thinking you're in this elite group that will be taken in the rapture and to hell (literally!) with everyone else! I'm really glad now to know what to watch out for and to use critical thinking skills. I guess I'm just saying I get it, although now it's embarrassing that I used to be like this anonymous person. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just subscribed!

Congratulations on having escaped from this very seductive worldview! You're in good company, FWIW: a lot of atheists today are recovering fundamentalists/evangelicals. Every time I hear a story like yours, I feel a surge of gratitude to my parents for being atheists. Even though it was tough being the only openly atheist kid in middle school and high school (my family had moved to a town in the South; I think my parents were caught off guard as much as I was by how religious everyone was there), I now feel that I had it much better than those 'good Christians' who used to bully me.

Is faith healing a big thing in the deaf community? I was deaf community-adjacent for awhile and I hadn't heard anything about this. I would be very interested!
