@@atheistjake This one is surprising how personal they take it. ive been out to my parents in some way for 7 years and they still think i just need to fall back in line and are passive aggressive when they try to force their religion on others. example: i first came out atheist to my mom when i asked her to stop teaching my young daughter that she HAD to fold her hands and say the words of prayer before meals. asked them to stop, did for 7 years, but just this last weekend they were again trying to tell her that she HAD to pray before meals, nothing about this is our tradition and in someone else's house you respect them quietly when they say their prayer, no SHE HAD TO PARTICIPATE. so even casual catholics are REALLY bad at accepting the position of others as a legitimate existence.

but even the convinced theists are looking for anyway for them to get special privileges to not follow another law. example the churches organizations being exempt from the birth control mandate a few years ago. they didnt have to pay just had to sign a form saying they wont for legal reasons so someone else can. but no, they had to control their workers birth control access, that being none. these are never religious purposes it is them wanting to be special so they dont have to change ever. it would be easy if they were just mentally ill. but they arent, they ARE just assholes

It was the complete antithesis of “the science”- and it’s clear that the rules were
Subjective and applied in only the ways that suited the government and the big corporations. It had nothing to do with “health”. That is all. No one claimed they only came for the church.

So decades later, that ferver has a distributive property of making people think that Conservative ideals are inherently also Christian ideals.

Come on man- they didn’t restrict all people gathering in groups. Lol. Costco was packed full, airplanes continued to fly- come on. Let’s be authentic about this. The government picked and chose which gatherings were ok. Small businesses, no- but huge corporations like Walmart and target are fine to stay open. Make it make sense. 😂😂😂

Things like shopping and air travel are necessities. They can't really be 100% stopped, because some people rely on that for work or life. Not so with churches, concerts, sports games, or other forms of purely social grouping. Of course some things had to stay open and not every decision on what to shut down was a good one, but there was a well-intentioned reason behind most of the pandemic protocols.

I regret coming back to this video, because this past week I learned of the terms exegesis and eisegesis. Exegesis is where you understand the proper context of scripture, whereas as eisegesis is putting your own personal interpretation.
You just made an eisegesis argument to combat his use of eisegesis. But I'm overlooking your overall point.
To you the bible says obey the government for God has put it there, of which both democrats and republicans agree is an aspect of our government. Hence why you'll never see an atheist president, but I digress...
My point is both arguments bear an ignorance use of scripture, but what makes your argument more favorable is how you value the safety of his congregation, whereas apparently he doesn't.

Just a small note, but when the Bible says God puts the government in place, that doesn't necessarily mean that those in authority worship God. That verse was written when the Roman government was in power, and they DEFINITELY weren't God worshippers lol

Also, I'm glad I'm re-watching this, while working on that story I've rambled about.(I find the video you're reacting to is fitting background noise given the cultist vibes it gives off. Sorry for the jaded perception...) I missed that you mentioned Mark 12: 17 the first time through.
Which I see why many see it as pay your taxes, since Jesus said:'give to Cesaer what is Cesaer's." But what keeps getting left out is when he follows with "give to God's what is God's."
To sum up "Give the government your money, but give God your heart and soul."
This in no way disproves your point, but furthers how big of an idiot this pastor is. As a result I'mma get back to writing my novel, because this idiocy drives me to drink. And before you ask, I don't drink.

Nice try invoking Romans 13 as a counter to Acts, but this...Pastor is trying to say our government is corrupt. And while I'd agree with that sentiment, you know as well as I that's not what's going on with insisting on lockdowns.
Simply put sir bringing up Romans 13 was unnecessary, as you should have called this what it was:"projection."

Thanks for your perspective! I like bringing up additional verses to counter someone's Biblical conclusion, since many viewers may not be as familiar with these verses. There is always more I could say, but it's tricky to fit everything into my edit 😆

In all honesty what's sad is I think atheists knowing the bible so as to show zealots their folly. And it just dawned on me that since there are verses that warn of false prophets, you could've used that as a counter since his actions endanger his congregation. After all, what man of God in their right man endangers God's children?

    • @atheistjake
      @atheistjake  2 года назад

True, that's a very good point! Although the verses about true Christians being able to walk through flames and handle snakes without injury might encourage these kinds of people to keep being reckless with public health for the sake of their "faith" tho. It's really up their interpretation 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sad but true, as many ignorantly think:"If I think the virus won't effect me, then it won't effect me."
And yeah that's how I see the foundation of faith being for many Christians. A state of mind, rather than a sensation in the heart. Hell that was my perception of why you deconverted, as when you came to realize the lack of evidence for God, your state of mind changed as you became aware.
Also I fact checked that Acts verse this pastor quoted before typing this comment. I suggest reading Acts chapter 5, because if I read it right, ironically that chapter dealt with the apostles speaking out against the corruption of a church hence, "we must obey the word of God rather than man."
I tell ya dogg, at times I'm irritated with how scriptures are manipulated for crap like this.
