Been scratching my head for a few weeks trying to sort the flame on my fire. Saw this video and soaked the transducer disc in vinegar as instructed and it’s working like new. Great advice, thanks.
Did the disc appear contaminated (with limescale etc)? I use filtered water, the disc look clean, but I still removed it and cleaned it with white vinegar (didn't soak it for hours). Still U/S, lamps and fan comes on but nothing from the transducer, after a few minutes it all shuts down. Going to check for voltage at the transducer socket; after that's it may need a new transducer. The logic of these fires is not the best, one should be able to have just the lamps on for effect or have the heater on; if the mist is not working the whole thing shuts down.
Thanks so much for this. Steam feature hadn't been working for ages. Taken it all apart, cleaned it all out, etc etc, still nothing. Saw your video, and took out the transducer. Couldn't get the disc out though, even with the aid of a knife. However, I just poured vinegar onto the top of the disc while it was still in the transducer. I left it for 10 minutes, dried it all, put the mechanisms all back together, and voila. Lovely steam coming out. Thanks so much. Very grateful.
Hey , thanks for this video ! Cleaned the disc as you recommended and it’s work perfectly! I didn’t have white vinegar so just used malt vinegar, and only did 2 hours. Great helpful video !
Ok update ! Mine stopped working again after cleaning the transducer disc. I bought a complete replacement transducer off eBay but it wouldn’t work either. Thought I would now need to replace the fan , BUT reading online someone recommended unplugging the cable from the back of the fire to reset the electrics ? with there being a new transducer. Switched back on and working perfectly! So worth bearing in mind.
Thanks so much. Very informative and helpful. This did the trick for me. We use water from the tap, but it’s from a water softener. We’ve had the fire for over 3 years so it’s not bad going that the disc needed a good clean after that time.
Thank you for the video not had time to order a part Mrs been on at me for 2 years now, to sort it, used vinegar for 2 hours put it back together and hey presto it works like it used to also ordered a part so wont need that then Thank you. :-)
Hi, thank you for this helpful tip, i'll do this next time it starts playing up. Could you tell me how to change the fan? I have the part for it and have looked inside but it doesnt look easy to change so im wondering if i need to go in from the underneath? Your video was the only one on youtube i was able to find on fixing these fires. I have a dimplex grande. Thank you.
I’m so pleased I found this video and thank you for making, have the Chesney’s Opti-Myst which is just a rebranded Duplex, turned it on today and nothing, opened up the fan which is spinning (don’t know if it should be spinning faster but is spinning) but the transducer isn’t creating hardly any mist, certainly not the amount I saw in your video, will try your vinegar trick, truth be told it’s only been used once in a year since new, would you say it’s the transducer I need to replace? Thank you so much for your time and for creating this video, would have been at a loss without it 👍🏼
Hi. I have got an Oakhurst and got replacement transducers off amazon/e-bay and it all worked fine.. however now the mist isnt coming out when the cover goes back on.. it is making mist so transducer is ok.. but its not coming out when cover is on. could this mean the fan has stopped working so isn't blowing the mist out? Any Tucson how to change the fan please?? And where to get one from?
Helpful. Tried vinegar, no joy. Purchased replacement disc. Still nothing. Can hear click and fan working. 4 lights working also cleaned filter unit. There are some bubbles coming from transducer but nothing like yours and certainly no mist. Anything else it could be please? Cheers
I have the mist effect working but there is no mist coming out from the fire. It seems to be getting trapped beneath the plastic and not rising. I have replaced all the parts and cleaned thoroughly with no success. Can anyone help?
Aside. When the ' smog' blower packs up. Instead of buying a fifty quid one, look on eBay under 3D printer blower, cooler fan. You'll find the same for about £3! Shove a resistor in line to drop it down some, and away you go.
I went for a combo of led and original halogen. The 4 halogens just look a bit too bright and orange. I have two original plus 2 red LED (middle ones) the colour is better, and it uses less power but still hot enough to make the steam rise (not sure the light makes much difference to the steam/smoke effect to be honest). Great video, very helpful
Well done tommy lad save me a bit of money with thee old vinegar trick 👍👍👍👍👍👍 ps any tips on outdoor security lights my LED ONE IS VERY DIM only had it just over 12 months 🤔🤔🤔
Thank you for this helpful video. I followed your instructions exactly and now my fire is working again. I didn’t need to buy anything
Keep returning to the only informative video on here about fans and Optimyst workings. Thank you.

@@SaxJockey No the disc did not appear contaminated. I used ordinary malt vinegar and soaked the disc for 4 hours.
@@kevinhicks5944 Thanks for the reply. It's working again now 👍.
@@SaxJockey That’s great 👍
Thanks for making this video. Soaked the disc in white vinegar overnight, flame effect fully restored in time for Christmas gatherings.

do your guys opti mysts also make a lot of dripping water noise from the transductor spitting it out?

Is water from a dehumidifier deionised? Deionised water messes with the level detection (apparently)

Many thanks very helpful.
I’m trying to discover whether the ‘optimyst’ fire essentially needs hot halogen lamps or if these can be changed for LEDs??
I tried LEDs. They don't work. You need the halogen heat.
@@guyswinscoe4895 thank you!....I realise that now!
I’ve been using LEDs for 2 years now and no problem. The amount of vapour produced is reduced but it does work.
@@davidashworth6033 Good to know that. Thank you!
