    Imo one of the more underrated players. Most people just know him for beating MJ in the dunk contest, but they don't realize he was one of the absolute best scorers of the 80's and early 90's (including a scoring title) who also put up amazing rebound numbers for an SF and developed his game to be a good player even when he lost that explosiveness. They also don't realize how nasty of an in game dunker he was, like wtf what did the rim do to you Nique

      U smoke weed m8? Most people know who he is, but he is rarely recognized for his extraordinary playing career. Most people just know him from beating MJ in the dunk contest, not for scoring 25+ PPG and 6+ RPG in 9 straight seasons, or leading the league in scoring, or outscoring Larry Bird in their head to head matchups, or being a 9x All-Star and 7x All-NBA seclection

    • @gee_kaz
      @gee_kaz 8 лет назад +8

      +TheBDHShow dude, people recognized his plays,does being 9x allstar and 7x all nba doesn't get you recognized? And what do you mean he was known for beating mj in the dunk contest? He always known for his amazing scoring abilities,the way he dunk the ball,he can grab boards,he's a hall of famer,im pretty sure people know dominique wilkins because he made into 9 nba allstar and 7 all nba and not just because he won the dunk contest over Jordan

    • @brianhill2171
      @brianhill2171 8 лет назад +8

      U smoke weed m8? If you go a high school and ask the kids there who are basketball fans who Dominique Wilkins is, 90% of them will say something about his dunking. I'm primarily talking about people who are under 30, because people who were alive and watched basketball in the 1980s know damn well how good of a player Dominique was. If you ask young people "name people who won NBA scoring titles", Dominique Wilkins will be one of the last names to come up. If you ask young people to name some of the greatest small forwards of all time, Dominique will be one of the least mentioned names. I'm 16 and despite the fact that I live in Atlanta most of my friends are shocked when I tell them that Dominique Wilkins won a scoring title or that he actually played extremely well when matched up against Michael Jordan (use Basketball Reference H2H Finder)

      +Sand Vegas It's a chess game. He sitting there thinking, "All right, you got me on that one, but we still knocking you out of the semis and there's nothing you can do about it!" The in 1988 that's exactly what they did winning that 7-game series on their home floor in which Wilkins went nuts. Don't remember how much he averaged in that series. I still think even if they had beat the Celtics, Detroit would have hammered Atlanta and possibly beat them. They just had so many dedicated defensive players on that team. Still, a Lakers-Hawks 1988 NBA Finals would have been super entertaining, maybe the equivalent of the 2006 Mavericks-Heat NBA Finals for that particular era: two uptempo teams with offensive stars who can score from anywhere: In 2006 it was Wade vs. Nowitzki. In 1988, it would have been Johnson vs. Wilkins.

    • @readingthroughhistor

    On 1992, when the "Dream Team" came to Barcelona to play in the Olympic Games, I was hoping to see Dominique with the American team. That didn't happen 😢 He would have given a great show playing with Air Jordan, Magic, Bird and the rest of legends. Even so, we had the chance to watch the best basketball team ever. Barcelona and Catalonia will never forget those wonderful olympic weeks 🥰❤️
    Btw, when it comes to best dunkers ever, Air Jordan and Dominique come to our minds but... Anybody remembers Anthony "Spud" Webb? He played aswell in the Hawks of Atlanta, and won a Slam Dunk Contest (only 1,69 meters tall 😮), beating his teammate Dominique, who said, after the contest: "Lol, I knew he could dunk, but didn't know he was able to dunk that way"😮😮😮😅 Miss those old good times, when I was awake up to 5am to watch an NBA game on TV (5am here, due to the time difference between Barcelona and USA). Greetz to all from the sunny BCN 😊🏀⬅️FTW

Even met him once as I was staring at the ceiling of the Omni(we were thinking about purchasing the P.A. system, so no, I wasn't standing and drooling) while practice was going on. Ball rolled over to me and he came to retrieve it, nice guy.

    I grew up in France during the 90's, and though there was a bit of NBA on TV, it was a pay subscription and my parents weren't buying it. One of few ways I could consume moving-image NBA was by watching MJ videos over and over and over again. There were these few moments when Do Wilkins appeared - those dunks were jaw-dropping. I had only seen those moment from Do Wilkins, yet he was somehow my favourite player.
