Regarding the guns comments, I have shot many guns and I do understand the difference between semi and full automatic and what AR stands for. However, the issue isn't with those distinctions, it's with unfettered access to these weapons where the issues lie. Other countries with firearms don't have mass shootings like we do because they don't just let anyone obtain access to guns while they still have similar percentages of mental health issues. They don't have more guns than their total population like we do. They don't fetishize, romanticize, and sensationalize guns and gun violence like we do. I support the 2nd amendment but let's not kid ourselves or be dramatic; no one is coming for our guns when we talk about reasonable gun control. But how many times do we see mass shootings and it turns out the shooter was a legal gun owner even though they clearly had glaring mental health red flags? Why can't we restrict access to people who are clearly not mentally stable, who as soon as they have a "bad day" and so easily snap, they can target others that are not prepared for such an attack and kill scores of people in minutes or even seconds? They have time to plan to kill and die that day and catch everyone else off guard, even the "good guy with a gun", so they will always have the upper hand as when a situation like that suddenly arises most people panic or freeze while the shooter calmly executes everyone in sight because he had time to prepare for it and is himself ready to die. If gun access was like cars, it's like having no seatbelts and airbags. And do some research, when seatbelt laws came into effect, many idiots with misplaced anger screamed "oppression" and tried to make the matter about freedom. Now that everyone knows what a basic preventive measure that saves lives they are and that no one's freedom is being infringed upon while still allowing responsible Americans to operate motor vehicles, no one fights it anymore. The same needs to happen with guns. Guns don't need to go away, how we handle their access simply needs to change. We need to embrace common sense gun control and if you're not an unstable individual and are capable of possessing firearms without being a risk to others as soon as your fragile ego gets hurt, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about and everything to gain.

They also seem have a sense of community and an overall connectedness that we do not have- we tend to mistake National Pride as being the same as those things and it certainly is not. We tout a "rugged individualism" mentality, which used to mean an honorable work ethic and personal responsibility, but it has been twisted and flipped on us to become an excuse for many of us to forget about our communal realities and responsibilities. The new brand of Individualism is treated as a loophole, from those, that as Marlon said, "won't even wear a mask to save somebody's grandmother", all the way to the very wealthy people and corporations who make their profits off of the needs of our existence, regardless of the pain they inflict. By making the topic of gun control another part of the endless culture wars, instead of treating it as a public health crisis like automobile fatalities were, our elected representatives have created a distraction to keep from having to admit our nation's real problems and an alibi to avoid legislating in ways that cut into their "campaign donations" from aforementioned wealthy sectors.

Those divisions based on race have such deep roots. All the way back to Bacon's rebellion when the plantation owners realized that they needed to keep indentured servants (white) separate from enslaved folks (black) because without racism they would unite and overthrow the unjust power structure. So those at the top promote racism and division, tell poor whites that they are better than Black folks so that they will never work together for a better world for everyone.
