Wow, what a chapter. I’ve been using in parallel with your scholarly lessons the on line app Sefaria translation. These chapters of Samuel also dovetail with Shakespeare’s Macbeth: the witches of Endor!
It was a demon impersonating Samuel. Notice that Saul never sees the spirit himself; the witch only described the apparition and Saul 'perceived' that it was Samuel. There's also the fact that this spirit's prophecy wasn't quite true, since Saul did not die in battle, but killed himself after being wounded. And besides, can we really think that God would have permitted the spirit of His faithful priest and judge to come and go at a witch's behest? All souls belong to God; the enemy cannot exercise such lordship over them to say 'do this' or 'go there', as a certain centurion would later say to Jesus. Remember, too, what the Preacher says in Ecclesiastes 9:5: the dead know nothing.
Just to give a different opinion, the Hebrew in verses 15 and 16 is "vayomer Sh'muel..." and in v. 20, "divrei Sh'muel", and I'm not sure the Bible would get this wrong... I'm also not sure why the other reply here says that the prophecy said Saul would be killed in battle, because it didn't say that, it just says, "and Yahweh will give Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me" (v. 19)

❤❤❤❤❤
It could have been the Halloween episode.
Very nicely made. I wonder why you read the vav in וירא as v and the vav in יהוה as w. I read it as Yahvéh with v as in all other Hebrew words. 🤷🏼♂️
Was the person who came up Samuel himself, or her ov pretending to be Samuel? I've heard differing opinions about this.
