I plan on going to anthro northwest. Im reserving the hotel room next week. Should I register online when I book the hotel room or would I be good to register at the con? I ask because Im figuring out if anyone is coming with me or not
You can do either (assuming there are rooms) but as I mentioned in the video MOST cons have discounts on rooms if you book through them. If you do go right to the hotel and you are able to get a room before registration opens, you can avoid the lottery completely but it might be a lot more expensive depending on the hotel. Edit: I think I may have misunderstood. If you are talking about registering purely to just register and not get a hotel, you should just register after registration opens online, just in-case they run out. That happens sometimes with various cons, as I said with the last confuzzled. You need to register regardless. You can't go to a con without it unless you are fine with just staying in public places within the hotel.
@@voxdraco This con is being held in an event hotel, so it does have discounted rooms. I was planning on booking the rooms next week and waiting to register until I got to the Con just incase I end up going by myself.
Most of the cons I've been to require you to have an active registration in order to be a part of their hotel block + discount. It looks like their hotel registration page requires the primary room holder's name and badge ID to find one's registration, so I assume that is the case for ANW and you would be required to register online prior to doing the hotel reservation (assuming you are not doing a non-con hotel in the area).
@@voxdraco 👍 No worries! The ANW website makes it seem like you can reserve a hotel without a registration until you actually click on the link, so I reckon that's where their question came from. Most cons tend to be very articulate and have an FAQ to clarify such things but I do not see that on the ANW website which is surprising. Maybe I'm missing it...
So THIS is the big thing you had planned... Yeah, I can see how this was a big project when it comes in *at over 41 minutes.* Goodness, this must have taken a lot of time and effort, so good on you and anyone else involved!
Yeah it took a lot of time to film, script, edit, get others feedback on points, taking bits out which might cause issues etc etc. I hope it helps someone though.
Two thoughts, 1. I'm embarrassed as an American about the advice to get temporary health insurance for people visiting the US. I deeply deeply hate that we still don't have a universal healthcare system. 2. Why doesn't the UK have over the counter melatonin?? I have ADHD and one of my usual effects from it is insomnia, I have a hard time most nights just falling asleep at home, its even harder for me to sleep in unfamiliar environments, so my melatonin gummies are a life saver. I get my big bottle for like $12 off Amazon. I genuinely wanna know why the UK doesn't allow that.
lmao, but fr what matters is being common and easy to understand. So Vincent Spark or some other formalized version should be an acceptable registration name.

do "Con ID Lanyards" need to have a picture of you sona? When ever I look up "Con Badge" it usually always shows a picture of the persons sona, with their name on it.
The convention badge usually does not have a picture of your sona, at least none that I've seen. They only require your legal name and a nickname/ "furry name". Fursona badges are an optional piece of art, usually a commission from an artist, that is worn in addition to the official convention badge. A Fursona badge can help people identify you, it's not a requirement. :)
"The hotel staff are NOT furries, do not use your fursona name with them!" As a non-furry I just have to ask, is this an actual genuine problem in the furry community?
I'd like to start going to conventions after so many years. Being French and with a low budget and non-existant travelling experience, my options are a bit limited. What's mostly scary however is how crazily fast the spots runs out in some conventions. Like, FBL11 will begin in France very very shortly (like tomorrow) and from what I heard, they had over 1 400 demands for only 750 spots.
Just found you recently. Love your informative videos. I have only been a fur for about 3 years. Still havent gone to a physical con. But knowing alot of these things is good. Some of it is obviously common sense, but these days, honestly, its so rare its a damned super power.
Some conventions like MFF are basically a complete and total random dice roll on whether you get to attend, or are forced to refund your registration and back out. Check ahead and see how bad the rooming situation is, because you can't always go.
My first fur con was ACFI in San Antonio and I loved every min of it, and adding the fur meets I have been to so far. I have been to a lot of Comic, anime and gaming cons but never a fur con so I looked into ones around Texas and found my first.
And where to find furry conventions for straight people? And then a lot of furries are not straight and I'm straight and I don't think I'll like it there
The furry community is mostly non straight everywhere, I'm afraid you won't find something like that, but that does not mean that straight people are excluded, Vox is straight himself. And I'm ace, never felt that I don't belong.
@@CrealineeI can't speak for the US, but here in the EU the community is quite open, we have non furrys and straight people come with us to cons , Vox himself was a perfect example of this, some of are friends still are. We at EF this year danced in front of the CCH with non furrys.
I've not heard of cons made for one particular sexuality, but given how accepting the furry community is I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if you weren't welcome at one.
This is nonsense. I have been a furry for a while and I am straight. I know plenty of other straight furries too. There is a minority of furs who might not be comfortable with straight furries, but there is also a minority who hate gay people, lesbians, trans etc etc. If you take their crap to heart, they win. Don't let hate drive you away. @@Crealinee
Good on you to push temp insurance if coming to the USA. They don’t fuck around over there. Hospitals are basically funded by Monopoly money these days.
I hosted a panel at a convention and it was a wild experience.. sadly I didn't have friends and was alone most the time but i saw loads of art and people were super kind honestly social anxiety killed me back then .. im older now so i want to try again soon
Super underrated video. I'm thinking about going to my first con (TFF 2024) and the information given here is priceless! I'm just hoping I can get a few of my friends to go so I won't be alone while I'm there.
As a convention veteran myself, I can attest to just how amazing they are. Everyone can find something they like, no matter how socially comfortable or financially sound they are. Especially at furry conventions, inclusion, acceptance and patience are incredibly important. For me, these events were life changing. I got to hang out with people who really got me, and we could celebrate a hobby we love that might be less understood at home. There's so much to see and do, from enormous vendor halls to games to parties. If you've never been, you should really try it out. Conventions are like no other.
