Hello everyone. I’m also a victim of the smart Samsung remote control. This video didn’t help me but reading the comments it was like a group therapy for me. I felt uniquely stupid cos I couldn’t open a remote control , I felt embarrassed and worthless and lost my confidence. But reading the comments here I discovered there are many others like me who have been tormented by this damned remote control. Now I feel normal again and confident. In the meantime Im still trying to open the remote control . but the psychological support I got from you guys will give me the courage to keep trying until I achieve my goal. The remote is working. That is where the trouble began!!! Luckily, just unplugging the TV and cable box and plugging them back in solved my issue, but I still at some point will need to change batteries on that little bastard!!! LOLOLOL
For those having a hard time opening the controller, it is because of pressure or buildup on the sides. I had to take a flat screw driver and slightly pound in going around the edge of the controller to release the inside pressure or buildup. I did scar the edges a little doing it this way, but I was finally able to slide it open easily after doing this.

Idk if everyone else has it on their remotesbut it changes your tv screen to your choice of a picture. I typically pick a forest scene that they offer, or this other picture that shows off colourful stained glass. The screen is at a duller brightness; probably to save energy/costs, make some tv’s blend into the decor, and allow it to not be as distracting. On my tv it’s in a way that you can have it on in the dark while you try to sleep, and it doesn’t bother me in a way that normal bright TV’s usually do. It’s almost like nightshift mode on your phone that tries to not give you that wired feeling. Everyone was mentioning the bad parts of the design/features, so besides mentioning the difficulty I had removing the back, I figured I’d put something positive that I liked lol
Thank you for this tutorial! It and the comments definitely helped me realize I wasn't crazy - that dang remote was being a PITA to open! After trying to open it for at least half an hour 🥵I took a sharp tip, thin paring knife and went around the edges and got some crud out (surprisingly). Then gently twisted the remote (not a lot!) a couple times side to side and tried your video method a few more times. All of sudden, it opened! And I found out some sticky liquid had gotten inside somehow and gunked the edges a bit. Cleaned it good, got the batteries changed finally, and put it back together. Now the darn thing opens easily!! 🥳
Thanks, Pascal! This confirmed my suspicions that this was how the remote was designed; it is the entire back piece which slides off. I was hesitant to use force/elbow-grease to slide it off at first, but with a little effort and patience, I got it down.
After reading most of the comments here, I inserted the pointed tip of a box-knife blade in the tiny groove of the short end where the arrow points, and gently twisted. I could hear a slight pop as it became loose. As others have said, it seemed welded shut. My batteries had not corroded or "spilled" inside.
BEST METHOD: use a pry tool or some flat slim object (butter knife) and stick it in the bottom edge pull up and out and it pops out real easily. Pulling for 5 minutes while doing this took 2 seconds

Thanks for video, I was wrestling with this remote control for awhile. First time having to change the batteries. Whoever design this remote needs a quick swift kick.
I had to purchase a new remote for the Samsung TV we gave our original one got lost, were while lost, and when I found it even after drying it completely and then changing its batteries it still wouldn't work. But on the new replacement "Replace Remote fit for Samsung 4K" remote I got I cant get it to turn on or connect to my TV. What do I do?
A friend of mine set up the tv for me, including putting in the batteries. After two years, I realized the batteries needed to be changed, but my buddy had moved out of town. I watch the video and tried to remove the top covering the batteries- no success. 😳 Trying to use the gloves was a no-winner. 😞 I read the comments and tried the "place-the-hands- in-a-praying-position" and was unsuccessful. 😠Nothing but pure frustration ! I did read another comment that suggested you twist the ends of the remote where the arrow was. To my surprise, the repeated twisting loosen the ends and I was able to push the piece covering the batteries off. 😏 I cleaned some debris from around both sections of the remote and replaced the batteries. 😀 One hour of exhaustive work trying to figure out how to change the batteries to my tv remote. Whew....😒
Your direction though were correct...mine wouldnt do!! So I read the first post about the thumb nail!! Thank you whoever posted that!!👍 That works!! So please add that to your demo about therhumb nail in the slot at the other end of the remote!! Thank you!!😊
Thanks for the video it worked. Most people I believe are having problems because the batteries corrodes over time. Thus leaving the cover almost impossible to open.
Video states the obvious, but thanks for taking the effort to make it. It would help if you remade the video incorporating the comments and techniques explained in the viewers comments, since this is the most difficult-to-open remote ever manifactured.
Hi Bon. The thing is that I never had any trouble to open one of these remote. I would love to make a video about it if I end up with one of these remote in hand.
Never in my life did I have to look up how to change batteries on anything. This sucker wouldn't open for nothing. Finally loosened it up after 10 minutes. WHY !
It's all about technique. I nearly lost it until I discovered this technique. Place the remote on your non-dominant lap (face down, the arrow on the remote pointing to your knee) then use the bottom of your non-dominant palm to directly push the centre of the remote into your knee. At the same time, use the thumb on your dominant hand to push the remote in the direction of the arrow. Works every time.
Okay I found out the technique to open the battery case, hopefully I can put it in words. So, you actually need both hand to open it and your both thumb, so what I did was I put my left hand thumb at the arrow and my other thumb is at the other end near the sensor glass or whatever and then all you need to do is push the case towards the arrow with both of ur thumbs and slide it open.
I listen to the guy not you making this video but I listen to the guy that said pretend you're praying and give it everything you got in mind open right up so thank you for that
I had the same problem. Just wear a pair of one use rubber medical gloves for better friction otherwise it will be slipping frm your thumb. It might help to lightly warm up the back of the remote with a hair dryer first.
I Got itttttt! Apparently it took me to Move into my Bathroom to get it open. 😂🤦🏼 it took two thumbs one on the arrow and one on the far back to help open my Most Difficult Remote in Life! 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼 I felt I won the Jackpot by getting this open for over a hour. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Okay, so...I had one hell of a time trying to get the back off. I just couldn't get a good grip on it. I finally thought, maybe if I put on my dishwashing gloves I can get a better grip. POPPED RIGHT OPEN, with no effort! Good luck all!
Wow! I didn't realize that! I don't know I guess people are frustrated because they are unable to it as easely as I did. Ahah! Thanks for your comment Ransford! 😊
I opened my remote by putting a rubber strip over the arrow and pushing down and out in the direstion of the arrow. The rubber gave a better grip. Once opened I saw white powder around the edge of the remote, indicating that the batteries had leaked. It now opens much easier after I wiped the powder away.
I just spoke to someone at Samsung and they told me a way that actually worked for me. I put the remote facedown on my leg with the open arrow facing away from me. Using both thumbs, I pressed on the arrow in the direction indicated, away from me. Samsung suggested using a rubber band or rubber gloves to create more friction if needed. I used a fat rubber band to create the friction. It still takes some forceful downward and forward pressure to force it forward and open but it worked!
Guys, my wife figured it out before I damaged it with a screwdriver or knifeblade. Take a silicone jar opener & slide the back off by pressing & sliding in the direction of the arrow. IT'S SO EASY IT MAKES ME MAD THAT I STRUGGLED WITH IT FOR AN HOUR
Unbelievable!! I just spent 3 days trying to open this remove and then watched this video. I tried everything but the push pin was the winner. This was obviously a joke that the design team played on everyone.
Thank you so much I’ve literally been chewing on the back of my remote for 2 hours 😭 AND THE BATTERIES DIED AND MY COURT SHOW FINISHED NOW IM WATCHING SOME RANDOM SHOW 💀💀💀💀💀
**Edit** PROBLEM SOLVED*** IF the battery case is stuck its because the factory batteries leaked out and messed up the whole mechanism. U have to take it for service. They wont charge just to change the batteries. You need something really sharp to open it. I fixed it and i can open it with one hand
Even though the batteries in my Samsung remote are still working after two years I have tried opening the back for when the time comes and it won't budge. Mine is totally smooth on the back unlike what it looks like in this video. So I have this circular piece of rubber material I use to open tight jars. Just now I wrapped it around the bottom of the remote where the arrow is to get a firm grip, pressed down on the arrow and forward and it popped off. I was surprised how easy it was. I slid it off and on a few times to see if i can replicate it and it works. When I tried doing the same after without the rubber piece I couldn't do it! So it looks like you need something like that to grip both sides well and press the arrow down and forward.
Thought I was going to lose my mind trying to get this to open. Ended up having to do a few things collectively. Did credit card trick, took thinnest of knives and went around the edges repeatedly to remove guck, did prayer position one too. Still couldn't get it off. Tried gloves but still no grip. Strange to say but I washed my hands well like the other person recommended, then dried them off and then proceeded with prayer maneuver again and then success.
Hi, I changed the batteries twice but can't stop the screen display that tells me to STILL change the batteries, any ideas please🙏🏿 I already reconnected the remote with the TV and BTW everything is working. Just can't rid of the sentence: please replace batteries in your remote control, on The screen. Cheers😊
Hi! Well the only think I could recomend you to try is to reboot the TV (disconnect it from the wall). And try the batteries I had link in the description. They are the bests.
Turn the remote on its side. Cup the face of the remote with the left hand and the bottom of the remote with the right hand. Now with the remote between both hands (prayer position) and now turned and held in the upright position as if using to turn on the tv while using your left hand to hold the remote secure then with your right hand push the remote upwards. The cover comes apart to replace the batteries.
I changed the batteries because they died. The remote mostly works except for the home/hub button. I can't get the TV to display anything. I have reset it by pressing on the return/play button. I have taken out the batteries and pushed on the "volume up" button for 2 minutes.....nothing. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately, I think your remote is physically broken. I think the only way to solve your problem is to replace the remote. Unless you are willing to open it and look if the contact is reparable. You can order a new remote here : goo.gl/xUab1N
Ok - get two rubber non-slip jar openers. Place one on the top, and the other on the bottom. Push down and in the direction of the arrow, on the bottom, while simultaneously pushing the opposite direction on the top. Opens right up.
We had the same problem. Our remote doesn't have the grip things on the back. Honestly, I don't think that would help me anyway. Fast-forward a couple of hours. I put a rubber band around the very tip top of each claw thing on a vice grip and grasped that tiny part of the bottom piece of the remote. I then gingerly slid that top piece off. Once I had the thing apart I used that compressed air thing you use to clean off your keyboard and I blasted that thing in every part of both pieces. Then used WD 40 with the tip that streams and I did both parts inside and on the side guide things. Next, I used a painter's rag and wiped the entire thing until I thought I had soaked up any actual liquid remaining. Final step I used a cotton swap that has the pointed end and really wiped all over the interior and the guides. I made sure there was no WD40 on the connections. Final step just the tiniest dab of the gel stuff you put on car battery terminals...like microdot. Works great!
Thanks. Looks easy, and I can see the arrow. It still won't budge, but I have some thin screwdrivers to use on it. Next question: Is there a Samsung remote with numbers that will let me go directly to one of my 2000 Spectrum channels? Does any have a microphone that responds to verbal instructions/questions addressed to Siri (Apple) or Alexa (Amazon)?
Hello Caponsacchi, thank you for your comment. Yes actually you could use that remote amzn.to/2Xjy6lE, every button should work on your Samsung TV. About the voice control, sorry I don't know, I hate those things.
Wowzerrrs! This was frustrating makes me wanna slap the designer bald!! I know that when other easier remotes fall to the floor the latch opens and out spills the batteries, so maybe that's what they were thinking making this IDK but anyhow, what worked for me was it took 8 large safety pins. To avoid breaking it, I slid them along the cracks positioning them evenly throughout, until I could pry it gently open. I didn't have battery leakage but I did notice that there was definitely goopy dust jammed along the seam. After opening it, I cleaned it all and changed the batteries yayyy but then when I tested it to see if I could open it, it is stuck again lmao.... but who cares, I will worry about that when these new batteries die right lol
It's incredible how many people have problem with that remote. There is surely something wrong. I never tough that I will had so many views with that video.
Make sure both side of the connector is clean to avoid any type of resistance. I recommand to use Energizer Ultimate.. .They are just the best battery. A bit more expensive, but last so much longuer.

Well... Usualy Samsung remote work on every Samsung TV. But maybe you got a bluetooth remote. You may have to pair it in the menu.
Was struggling as well. I finally put my thumbnail in the slot on the back just below the IR top bit (thin end).
Thank you, that worked!
Thank you! Holy moley this was frustating!
you're a genius, that worked like a charm, thank you
Thank you! I was going out of my mind. Slip a tiny tiny screwdriver in the edge and IT WAS THEN SO EASY.
The back on my remote will NOT come off! I'm guessing I will need to get a new one???? Any suggestions on how I can remove it? Thanks
Whew....😒
The back cover is not sliding as suggested. What should be done?
pry in prayer hand position seam to work for many.
That's what I think to. I never see a jamed cover on all the remote I had.
Ah, oké… now i understand why it seems to be impossible.
I finally got mine open, smashed the crap out of it with a hatchet. now it doesn't work for some reason.
Well... 😂
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 did u try using the nuke
@@dr.levionce5516 I feel your pain see above
you are the smart one, .... I am minutes away from smashing mine too
😂😂😂😂😂
Video states the obvious, but thanks for taking the effort to make it. It would help if you remade the video incorporating the comments and techniques explained in the viewers comments, since this is the most difficult-to-open remote ever manifactured.
Hi Bon. The thing is that I never had any trouble to open one of these remote. I would love to make a video about it if I end up with one of these remote in hand.
Never in my life did I have to look up how to change batteries on anything. This sucker wouldn't open for nothing. Finally loosened it up after 10 minutes. WHY !
i cant opened, really i don't believe that, we reached to the level of search on RUclips to open stupid remote
You saved my day. Thank you😂

The way he says arrow direction kills me 🤣
lol. YOu are not the first one to say so.
Great video. I thought I was mad as I couldn't open it.... Pushing and pushing and absolutely no action at all....."Praying" helped! Thanks a lot.
Praying only helped if the designer is in hell.
Danyal Elia omg this helped me😂😂thank you so much I felt so stupid
You help me. Thank you.
Thanks Danyal, that did the trick!
I literally worked the first time, but after.....nothing. poor design..just awful
This not working for me 😂😭
I listen to the guy not you making this video but I listen to the guy that said pretend you're praying and give it everything you got in mind open right up so thank you for that
I'm not sure to understand but you are welcome! 😊
thanks ..this worked perfectly!
@@juliestamm1667 , you are very welcome sweetheart (:
IT DOESN'T COME OFF, IT DOESN'T OPEN!!!!! Mine is brand new and I can't open it to put the batteries in!!!
Same....this is the worst designed samsung ever made
I had the same problem. Just wear a pair of one use rubber medical gloves for better friction otherwise it will be slipping frm your thumb. It might help to lightly warm up the back of the remote with a hair dryer first.
We're all here because of this dumb ass design lol what a damn L
@@KP-ry1nz Thank you ! 👍👍👍😃😃 😃
new Zinc chloride batteries are drainig like hell. Any solutions?
I Got itttttt! Apparently it took me to Move into my Bathroom to get it open. 😂🤦🏼 it took two thumbs one on the arrow and one on the far back to help open my Most Difficult Remote in Life! 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼 I felt I won the Jackpot by getting this open for over a hour. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where can we find those batteries? I think eveready isn't enough
That is the battery you want : geni.us/ulenaa
This dude must be from some other dimension in the multiverse because mine doesn't work that way.
Well... I'm just in Canada. 😅
I found it and did it easy with the help of your short video. Thanks!
Okay, so...I had one hell of a time trying to get the back off. I just couldn't get a good grip on it. I finally thought, maybe if I put on my dishwashing gloves I can get a better grip. POPPED RIGHT OPEN, with no effort! Good luck all!
Thanks for this! It worked after I put on gloves, omg
The gloves worked like charm.
This really worked - thanks a lot for this lifesaving tip
What size of batteries does it take?
Thoses one : goo.gl/T2riiH
I won’t be putting the cover on again
Thx man I was going crazy trying to find a way to open this stupid thing it helped a lot!
Ahah!! You are welcome! I'm glad it helped! :)
Well that would be great if I could get the back off! Thanks for the video to make sure I wasn't missing something.
you are welcome! I'm glad it helped! Thank your for your comment! I hope you will get it of. 😀
holycow92883 same problem here
does the battery have to be the battery your using? and if it does, whats the name of that battery?
Any AA batteries will do the job... As long as they are charged of course 😉
@@HowToPM thanks for the help!
thk u for the video,, my finger hurt me 🤦🏾♀️🤣 i finally know how
Ahah!! Thank you for your comment Claudia! I'm glad it helped! 😀
Why would someone give a thumb down for a video like this. People really have issues nowadays. This video does exactly what the user says. Jeeeez
Thank you, Thank you. I had a rubber glove. Placed it on the back cover, and pushed up in the direction of the arrow. Off it came.
Couldnt get it open so my son dropped it and it open. Go figure
😂😂😂
try my solution or robert palmers (2/3 down the remote is apparently "the spot")
Thnx
Guys, my wife figured it out before I damaged it with a screwdriver or knifeblade. Take a silicone jar opener & slide the back off by pressing & sliding in the direction of the arrow. IT'S SO EASY IT MAKES ME MAD THAT I STRUGGLED WITH IT FOR AN HOUR
Ahah! So funny! I never thought when I film this video that it would become a huge tips and trip forum!
Thank you for this suggestion, it worked perfectly!
Thank you for posting. I didn't have a silicone jar opener, but I did have a silicone drawer liner and it worked!
Thank you! Samsung really needs to fix this. I have a brand new one so I know it's not a spilled battery!
Good Day.
Please i have this remote but it's not working.
Look at the comment section. Many have brings some solution if it's not working.
Thanks for nothing it wont open
Try harder! ;)
thank you for your help!!! I OPENED IT TWICE!!!
Ahah!! Great! I'm proud of you! 😆 Visibly a lot of people can't. 😉
Unbelievable!! I just spent 3 days trying to open this remove and then watched this video. I tried everything but the push pin was the winner. This was obviously a joke that the design team played on everyone.
Thank you for the “prayer” idea. My boyfriend finally got it open. 😊
i did push the arrow direction on the remote control, but it did not open up??? Please help
Wow. Thanks to you and your commenters, I pried it open pretty easily.
What's the name of the battery brand?
It's energizer. You can buy it here : geni.us/ulenaa
Thanks 😊
Thank you so much I’ve literally been chewing on the back of my remote for 2 hours 😭 AND THE BATTERIES DIED AND MY COURT SHOW FINISHED NOW IM WATCHING SOME RANDOM SHOW 💀💀💀💀💀
Its not coming off....i guess its jammed...any method for the same?
You should take a look at the comment. Many have leave tips and trick.
Great video very helpful, so simple, thanks
What type of battery is required for this remote??
Theses ones : goo.gl/T2riiH
Thanks man this really helped
Ahah!! You are welcome! I'm glad it helped! Thank you for your comment!
Wear rubber gloves to get it open. Mine would not otherwise budge as easily as is. I learned that trick when my camera lens got stuck. Thanks.
that is what i did and it was so easy!
**Edit** PROBLEM SOLVED***
IF the battery case is stuck its because the factory batteries leaked out and messed up the whole mechanism.
The rubber thingy worked! I was losing my mind!
Just wanted to add that I didn't have the jar opener but I ended up using rubberized drawer liner it provided excellent grip
There appears to be a small screw Is that part of getting the back off?
Thought I was going to lose my mind trying to get this to open. Ended up having to do a few things collectively. Did credit card trick, took thinnest of knives and went around the edges repeatedly to remove guck, did prayer position one too. Still couldn't get it off. Tried gloves but still no grip. Strange to say but I washed my hands well like the other person recommended, then dried them off and then proceeded with prayer maneuver again and then success.
Unbelievable. 1000 comments from people like me so frustrated at not being able to open the worst designed remote ever. Thanks for all your tips!
Thank you. Great idea! This worked very well.
Wow this remote is so hard to open!! Thank you for your directions this was the only method to work
had my remote about 3 years and yet seems to not need batteries...not changed them yet, is this why its smart?
Nha, this is just because you set great battery inside, or your are almost not use it.
Short and to the point. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for your comment!
Thanks very much
How does my remote still in charge after 4 years?
Wow!! Ahah!! I hope it will be easier to open next time! :)
Oh wow..I was stuck frm last 2 days bz of this prbm..thx for this video
Most welcome 😊
When I push the arrow nothing happens. It is faaar too off and hard. For on reassure on to remove the back
I m not able to open it pls tell me what should be done
Well, sorry for me that worked easy like this. Read the other comment some have tips.
Brand new one won’t open. No batteries inside. I’m going to try suggestions in the comments. Hope something works
I'm relly curious to see how you try to open it. I open almost hundred of them without any problem.
I almost broke my remote without this video.
changed my battery but low battery indicator still shows on screen. Any help?
Make sure both side of the connector is clean to avoid any type of resistance.
I recommand to use Energizer Ultimate.. .They are just the best battery. A bit more expensive, but last so much longuer.
I have been trying to get it open it won’t slide
Your are my hero for today, I tied to open it, but I didn't know that I should swipe it.
Ok guys here's the magic trick! Wash the palms of your hands thoroughly with soap and water. My remote opened up right away. I also used the praying hands method below, but it didn't work until I washed my hands. 👍
This is literally the trick y’all, I washed my hands and it opened up like magic. Praying hands didn’t work for me either. Thank you so much!
all you need is a sledge hammer to get the damn thing open
Still no go ??
