When installing a new filter, suggest always writing the replacement date on the filter. It is very helpful if you can’t remember the last time you changed filters.
Hi, Lindsey! There are a few different types of HVAC systems, so depending on what you have will determine where your filters go. It sounds like you found the location of one, but there is typically a return air vent as well. If you see a metal grate like what Ryan has demonstrated in the video, check for screws or hinges that would allow it to come open. It may be on a wall, ceiling, or even in a closet (if that's where the return air inlet is located). You do NOT have to install filters on the vents themselves. The goal of the filter is to clean the air before it gets to those vents. Next time you have your unit serviced (like for upcoming cold weather), you might have your HVAC tech doublecheck the locations for you. We hope this helps!
