I miss Borgnine. Wether he's playing a lovable butcher or screaming "give 'em Hell, Pike!" or voicing Mermaid Man, I'll always remember him as great actor.
Chief Gunners Mate Ernest Borgnine was a very talented actor and a United States Navy sailor for 10 years before and during World War II. We miss him and his talent!
I've looked a lots of interviews with Ernest and I don't think he has ever talked- or been asked - about "The Vikings", I remember the film coming out and it caused a sensation with the lads at my school. We talked about it for weeks and weeks. Hail Ragner!
I like the film the Vikings also with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis, but the greatest portrayal of Ragnar was in the the TV Series Vikings ruclips.net/video/baalIYLYgHw/видео.html
ERNEST BORGNINE, A CLASS ACT AND ACTOR THAT WILL BE SORRILY MISSED, MAY HE REST IN PEACE. WHEN YOU THINK OF THE GREAT'S AND HOLLYWOOD, YOU AUTOMATICALLY THINK OF JOHN WAYNE, GARY COOPER, CARY GRANT, ALAN LADD, RANDOLPH SCOTT, JOEL MCREA, AS WELL AS SOME OTHERS, BUT LEST WE NOT FORGET ANOTHER ALL TIME GREAT , AND THAT IS MR.ERNEST BORGNINE. WHEN WE LOST ERNEST BORGNINE, WE LOST A PIECE OF HOLLYWOOD AND A PIECE OF US WENT WITH HIM. HOLLYWOOD HAS REALLY LOST A TREASURE A TRUE LEGEND
One thing I can say having worked with a couple of productions. Pleasant Behavior has gone out the window completely for many years, all they do is fight.
@TypicalJAFO I suspect that Vito would have been strangely lovable. I'm surprised the room in this clip didn't explode from all the "epic" coming from Ernie. Whatta legend.
borgnine would have been a perfectly awful choice but only in respect to what you say...Brando. Much as my distaste is for much of Brando, his clowning around in the muck of acting, turning it into a mud wrestle with himself, damn the guy was just flat out perfect in Godfather. But it seems after that he went back to his old circus tricks, strange fellow, a few good performances, always weird, and then that one indelible incarnation.
I agree, Borgnine is great, yes, but Vito Corleone needed to be played by someone with a quiet intensity who could speak volumes with his silences and perceived mumbling. And that’s what Brando brought to the role.
*I'm not a 'Western' fan at all, mainly because 'Hollywood' created a 'West' that never existed with absurd scripts and bullsh!t gunfights* ___________ *But two stand out for me...the 'Wild Bunch' and 'Shane'*
One of the best westerns I’ve ever seen. A magnificent cast.
Still my favorite western if not film of all time.
Agreed
Mine too
I would love to see this on the big screen again
I could listen to Ernest tell Hollywood stories for hours. The conversations on that set must have been incredible!
I miss Borgnine. Wether he's playing a lovable butcher or screaming "give 'em Hell, Pike!" or voicing Mermaid Man, I'll always remember him as great actor.
I love the way he uses the word wonderful so often. It sums up his attitude to filming and life and reflects on the man himself.
So long, Dutch... we all miss you already.
God Bless You, Ernie. "Sam Peckinpah was a great man and a helluva director." INDEED.
A working man and a great man. Rest in Peace Ernest Borgnine!!!
What a great actor Ernest Borgnine was this interview is brilliant ..great post thanks
Ernest Borgnine is in my Top 10 for having expressive eyes. There were many times in his body of work that he didn't have to say anything at all.
100% spot-on.

Reminds me of my grandpa...who was also a Navy sailor and chief petty officer, WWII.
Every time I see the Bunch ambling towards the porch I remember that they're 3 military vets and a world class cowboy.

He seems so genuinely humble i'm not sure he couldn't even badmouth Nixon .
How dare Sam peckinpah show what bullets do to the human body the Wild Bunch changed westerns forever
It changed movies forever. Not just westerns.
GOD SPEED FRIEND
I bet sam didn’t screw with mr. B.
