- This week we are back in our DIY Campervan St Christopher of Atlantis and our dog Pablo. After a quick stay at Clumber Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Site, we venture into the surrounding area to look at Claire's favourite, caravans. Andy is not a fan of caravans so will Claire be able to convince Andy that a caravan is the right thing for them or will a visit to Brownhill's, The UK's Largest Motorhome dealer change their minds?

Brilliant you two as always. So funny. We had a caravan for 12 years we changed to a campervan in July and have to say wish we had done it earlier. Best thing we have done. So I'm on Andy's side with this one. Also think about a motorhome is a caravan on wheels think about narrow country lanes. Car parks. Get yourself another campervan or a VW crafter or mercedes sprinter. More solid.

Great video! I feel I speak from experience here after several caravans, a large 6 berth motorhome and a few narrowboats 😂 we have now settled on a vw campervan and a basecamp 2 caravan. Best of both worlds for us at the moment we feel! Luxury caravan that can go fully off grid plus vehicle to go off site etc then the van for festivals, short trips and days out ....Cant agree with the setting up comments as we drive up, unhitch, electricity and water on. Thats it.....our vw campervan friends take far longer sometimes with their awnings, glawnings, outdoor kitchens etc etc 😂

Haha caravan first thing that came out of the wife's mouth was carnt stealth camp in one of them we used to have one never again. Campervan and motorhomes much better . Love the Adds yours are the only ones we watch any other vlogs we watch we just fast forward. Keep up the good work it's good to watch something worth watching stay happy .

If you go for a motor home I would suggest an older A Class like a Hymer or a Laika. They are usually low mileage. They’re fully winterised with much bigger fresh water and grey water tanks. The interiors are much better built. And they go on forever. We had a Laika and loved it. You will find there is a sweet spot of price where you won’t lose money on resale. Also buy private, people love and look after their vehicles.

Hi Andy, i agree with vloggers promotions of goods and devices, i think it makes sense to earn something to pay expenses for vlogs. But some have taken it too far and EVERY vlog has a promotion. It can be difficult to distinguish if the vlog is made purely to advertise products. I still think you should accept the occasional product promo

Bit spooky watching this video, the road you were on at the beginning is a route I take in my truck most weeks, then you went to clumber park, we stayed there this weekend, and then you go to Brownhills where we bought our Motorhome from. I’m six feet five tall and we found a Motorhome with beds seven feet long. Can’t wait to see what you get. 👍

We bought a brand new lwb van, similar size to yours, got it fully professionally converted and spent an absolute shed load of money doings so. It is very good on narrow roads and things like the NC500 and the like and day trips etc. After this we also recently bought a 7.5 metre 4 berth fixed bed caravan second hand, wanting more space now and again, paying only 12k for it. Now we tow the caravan with the campervan and the campervan hardly ever gets any solo run out because the caravan has spoilt us. They are so spacious and comfortable, that each time we plan an outing, we both look at each other and say shall we go in the capervan, the answer now is always no, take the caravan, apart from niche uses. Larger Motorhomes cause parking problems meaning you are stuck on the camp site mostly. We considered them and discounted them fairly quickly.

Obviously caravans are a cheaper option compared to motorhomes but agree 💯% people seem to take forever to set them up?
@@TimmysFavs thank goodness it’s not just us that feel that way… I mean, I think that for some caravanners the set up and drop down debacle is part of their fun!
I will give them this - they have their car with them, which is easier than getting a van about some places, but apart from car and £50k + extra and loads of space…… 🤔

I just wanted to mention that in your previous replies to other comments that you are thinking of buying a motorhome I personally think you should consider a camper van. St C is a small van and when you look at a motorhome you obviously think wow all that space etc is awesome. You have to weigh up whats best for you I understand that but for me personally I would not have a motorhome, too big too wide I would have damaged a motorhome so many times driving in Scotland and Wales the roads are just too narrow especially with the nutter log truck drivers!!! I have a Movano MK2 LWB (Renault) and a LDV Maxus (transit size) MWB van and both are perfect for touring the country both set up exactly the same solar, heater TV kitchen water blah blah both can be stood up in with no issue. I think you may need to consider one before making the plunge into a motorhome I take my Movano into places you would not get a motorhome trust me been all over the entire country more than once I would not buy a motorhome. In my opinion its a big mistake but that said may work for you.

Hey we have a double axle caravan with fitted bed. No damp, and enough room for two and a dog. We are out of this country when i get my irish passport as can then go spain. Bought a house in spain, plus now looking for land in spain to put the caravan on. The caravan has saved us in high rental costs and high mortgage rates. Its been a lifeline and caravans are not that bad these days as long as you air them out and heat them accordingly. I was never a caravan type person but the bigger ones with fitted beds, arnt so bad.

Hi guys listen Andy don't get a caravan they are totally hideous just get a bigger van as the van is the way to go. Claire you said the caravans are really cheap and you are right and the reason is they are made of balsa wood so when you leave it on your pitch if there is a gentle summer breeze you will return to a pile of panels scattered around your plot! Also the interiors are all the old contents of a care home they are truly vile looking and I can smell the interior now, don't do it check out the Westfalia Sven Hedin Ltd edition that is a Crafter with a fixed bed and it is stunning BUT as with all these vans they are so expensive, but there are cheaper vans out there, loved your video and I knew a product plug was incoming 😁🤣

Andy were you really gagging for it?😂 All joking aside but I would say take your time and find the layout that suits hou best, try to decide this before you buy. Do you want twin singles at the back with a garage underneath or French bed layout or face to face with a drop down bed? I would say you can never have enough storage so go for one with a garage? Always remember she knows best.

@@Stchristopherofatlantis Believe me there's nothing worse than having to make a bed up at night from your lounge & then having to pack it all away the next morning before breakfast + you use a lot of your overhead locker space with bedding and pillows etc. That leaves you with the German layout of twin singles at the back which can be made into a large king-size bed if required? Kitchen & washroom in the middle opposite each other with a half dinette in the front using the two front seats & the double seat or the face to face opposed setee's with an overhead drop down bed. Both these versions have a garage which is really useful for all your gear! If it helps we have the German layout, we leave one centre mattress in for Archie & all our gear goes in the garage which is vast although it does have a maximum weight limit of 150kg. There is also the possibility of a third temporary berth in the half dinette. With these versions you have the four seat belts, it's important for us because we are able to attach Archie to a seat belt via his harness when we are traveling. Most of the opposing bench versions have hidden travelling seats with belts so you can carry passengers aswell. It is a minefield of choices so the best advice I can give is to take your time to choose & the dealership is important too for habitation checks & repairs and servicing etc. Good luck & look forward to seeing what you choose! 👍

@@TimmysFavs hi 👋🏼 me again…. I was curious and went looking for your original comment on this vid and I couldn’t agree more. We also have the German bed layout and the middle but stays in for Ted our 🐾 fur ball. Separate duvets (the Scandinavians believe couples sleep better with separate duvets) the garage is a mahooosive bonus and we have overhead lockers in a u shape around the bed…but we also have swivel captain seats table and double travel seats which becomes the ‘lounge’ but to be honest we end up on the bed most of the time which is fixed 🙌🏼. Happy travels!

As an avid watcher of your informative videos in this particular one I have to say it wasnt as informative as normal. I was expecting Andrew to show us where the steering wheel is on those "caravan things" or even the engine bay gear sticks and things of actual interest. How do people survive with just 2 wheels in these "caravan things" I think 2 wheels may be a particular problem on the NC500 I dont even think they have diesel heaters or solar. panels Sorry Claire I think a walk around a van showroom may have been of more interest!
