Some people don't know that Elvis was first given medications in the army. After Elvis found out that the meds would help him stay awake and sleep when he needed to his cousin Patsy Presley and his cousin Billy Smith both said that Elvis kept taking them after he came home from the army. Elvis thought that he was doing nothing wrong because they were legally prescribed to him by licensed doctors. The doctors didn't know doctor's know today about the meds or the addiction.

Let's remember that prescription drug addiction was not widely known or talked about in the 1970s- there was not a treatment center on every corner, and I don't know where he would have gone for help. These addictions don't start out with abusing... anyway, this man was more than his addiction. He is still loved worldwide.

Most of the drugs were LEGAL when Elvis first started and his mother took uppers. This was a very hidden shameful thing to be an addict. Some things do change for the better. The addiction is a disease that NO one wants on there back. Elvis was drugged to work and drugged to unwind. He HAD to get addicted, so Parker could control him and ALL the others. Parker was a gambling addict, who lost millions & died broke. Elvis was a beautiful bible carrying southern gentleman at his core.

All the good Elvis did - yet you keep trashing Elvis for a drug problem that everyone already knows he had. Leave this man alone -and start talking about the millions he gave away to help people. I hope when you die they dig up dirt on you and report it constantly. Also, Elvis gave these drugs to the other members of his entourage so he didn't take all of these. No man could - he would have died much sooner. He had "trace" amounts of drugs in his system. Not enough to kill him.

I am a woman and I want to thank you for saying what you did.
How this one facet of this legendary mans life is harped on
      endlessly is shameful.
What this man did (as tragic as it may be) was his business.
I am no one to sit in judgement and neither is anyone else.
All he gave to people in kindness, generosity and talent and
      this still continues.
I don't know what it was like to walk in this mans shoes.
I can say for certain however regardless of his ending there will
never be another that could fill them.
Rest in peace Elvis Presley and thank you for all the greatness you
      brought in your short life.

It is extremely hard to tell any kind of an addict what to do!!
Their minds literally have to be rewired, and of course, their bodies detoxed!!
It is nearly impossible to get them to listen to anyone.😢😢
He needed to be in a rehab center, which is also hard to convince them to do.....😢

You cannot stop any man including Elvis from self destruction sad to say. Elvis killed Elvis plain and simple. The amazing thing with all that Elvis took that he did not die much sooner. According to Elvis freinds he almost did die many times before so they had to watch him very close. Elvis had an addictive personality meaning, he was extreme in what he did including his music he was a perfectionist but the drugs breaks you done to the point that you become a slave to these drugs. That being said, Elvis had some great attributes one of them was, he was extreme in giving he give you a brand new car off the street. Personally, I don't know anyone that was more generous than Elvis. This is part of his personality he had a compulsive personality that boardered on the extremes. This could be used for good and bad and in Elvis state of mind it ended up killing him sad to say. Now, his voice was like none other truly a gift from God. The loss of Elvis mother when he was young died at a young age of 46 from hepatitis. If she would of lived to maybe 65 it would of made it easier to let go. Elvis was extreme about his love towads his Mother he would of done anything for her he really lived for her he said this to George Klien.

I love Elivs Presley too just like everyone else and yes he did a lot in his life in just short amount of time . It's unbelievable !! I'm sure it started out being just once in awhile taking a pill to sleep and one to get up and get going for the day . That list of pills is a lot of medicine for just one person in a matter of days he was getting prescription field . My God .....!!! Poor fella , at some point it just went too far and there was no turning back from what it looked like to me . His doctors should have known better than to prescribe that much medicine to him . I know I have heard the stories too about no one tells Elivs no just like the rest of the world knows by now . Someone should have told him that there's nothing to be ashamed about it . We all make mistakes and maybe someone did tell him , but he obviously wasn't going to listen to anyone . If he just realized that there were so many people that loved him and we as fans would have been understanding about it all . By letting him know we love him and it's okay that you have made these mistakes , but you got to get some help Elivs . I don't know if it would have helped or not , maybe if he had admitted it was starting to be a problem in time ? Just maybe he would have gotten some help ? Any one with any common sense knows that if you take pain pills ....it will constipate you . When you have all of that waste in your intestines and it's all blocked like that and not going anywhere , your body going to start shutting down . He should have been in a hospital and not fixing to go on another tour . I feel sorry for him when I hear about these kind of things . It makes you feel like you wish you could've helped him . I'm sure the people that really loved him and knew him personally , did try to help him . I think he was just to embarrassed to admit he had a problem . Well , what's done is done and we can't change it now . I just pray he's at peace now .

Hmm , Geraldo , huh? Back when E died , Elvis helped make Geraldo's career with that all-drug special he did on Elvis , so sad. Geraldo kept asking the M-Mafia .. " Why didn't YOU GUYS go after Elvis to stop"? And here is Geraldo doing the same exact damn thing that the so called "Yes-Men" were doing... Taking advantage of the unfortunate side of the King!!! Geraldo is such a hypocrite. Even in THIS special , He makes a few references about the positive side of Elvis , only to get right back to the drug-thing! Just pisses me off to see people like this use & continue to re-use the dark side of the king , for their own gain. Elvis was so many things to so many people & helped people through his music & charm. Here was a teenage kid going to a level of popularity that no-one has ever reached before .... not Frank, not Bing....no one! How on Earth can anyone handle that kind of thing. Lets break it down to far more simplified way of thinking about it. For a poor kid to go to the hottest thing on the planet.... I think the kid did pretty good for himself. Made himself some money to take care of those He loved & left an un-erasable mark on his field. What more do you want from this guy??? Yes , Elvis wasn't perfect...who IS?

It is not disrespect to try and get to the bottom of drug additction and the doctors that over used their power for profit with Celebs. Elvis was a person, A gifted person with personal problems. He felt used and unable to further his own intrest because of everyone elses intrest in making a profit off of him. Elvis wanted to be a serious actor but Elvis was shy and stuttered. He was sexy but really manly in the sence of ruggedness, more so in a pretty boy that could ing and dance. They never allowed him to break out of the sterotyping known as cast typing. People grow up move on and start their own families and lives which leaves everyone lonley.

This f####r was known to everyone in Vegas as Dr Feelgood yes Elvis used him and rumour has it if you wanted something anything he can get it he was the man to go to everyone went to that's why he got the name Dr Feelgood.Everyone goes for Dr Nick about all the prescribed drugs he prescribed for Elvis. In my opinion he was the one who genuinely wanted to help Elvis.
Dont get me wrong Elvis means the world to me and I've always stood by him I'm what you call the Elvis Army I've loved Elvis since the moment I heard him Elvis has helped me a lot in my life personally ups and downs but Elvis had his demons like we all have had he did things he probably wasn't proud of but he was a human being like he once said cut me I bleed, I get in my pants one leg at a time.
And yes he used Dr Feelgood and as long as Elvis was writing the cheques he would get the drugs to Elvis no matter where he was and Elvis's bodyguards did try to stop them getting to him.
And back in the day when Dr Nick got put up in court and up against the medical board and he was found guilty of over prescribing drugs and he was struck off but no one went after the others especially Dr Feelgood and there was others and one day they will all have to answer for how they contributed towards the death of Elvis and Dr Nick he was hung out to dry for years trying to clear his name it was just like Michael Jackson Dr exactly the same many people wont agree with me of what I'm saying ,but Dr Nick did prescribe Elvis drugs yes but there were many more and far worse and when they say Dr Feelgood tried to help Elvis. and why would someone keep drugs in a safe deposit box I'll tell you why (guilt) it was the drugs he prescribed to Elvis help kill Elvis. I dont like to speak bad of the dead but I just hope he made his peace and as for Dr Nick I hope he Rest in peace and god blessing sorry if I offended anyone in this rant and it's a little long I know thankyou Russell from England
