  • Hey y'all! Long time no see! I'm sharing this video at almost four months postpartum--and I must say, I packed very well if I do say so myself! I used nearly everything I packed, except for the multiple changes of clothes for me and Nora. Next time we have a baby, I will pack exactly the same way with all of the same items. This worked so well for me/us! I've linked as much as possible in the description box. Thank you so very much for all of your incredible love and support. More to come! Love, Blair xoxo

    I'm so happy that you're back! 🤗💖 I packed a lot of similar items for my hospital birth. I remember well the enormous menstrual pads! I brought a sleep mask with me as well and it came in handy when trying to sleep during the day. I saved a newborn diaper and when I show my daughter Katie, who will be 4 this spring, she can't believe that she was that tiny!

Thank you for always being so informative and showing grace in every video! I so enjoyed seeing and hearing you again Blair! It has been a while - although I've been watching lots of your Disney videos that I hadn't watched before. :) We are expected our second baby later this year! I felt like my packing was a bit all over the place last time, but the zip loc bags are a great idea - I think I'll steal! There are very few birth centres here in Australia, but my local hospital was so supportive with my natural (hands off me!) labour plan last time, and I will have a known midwife for my whole antenatal/delivery/post-partum journey, so I feel like they are trying to incorporate some of the best features of a birth centre. They even have a tub :) Blessings to you, Riley and Nora!

    This is awesome. I live in such a rural area and there are no birth centers near me or I would have done this route. I attempted an unmedicated birth in a hospital and ended up with a csection because my baby was breech (we found out after 19 hours of labor). And I fully believe I could have had that birth I wanted if I had midwives and the resources available like that. Their approach would have been different and they probably would have attempted to flip him. Anyway....I love that you got the birth you wanted and love seeing how you prepared.

    I needed alllll those things! I went to hospital with a really bad headache at 34 weeks. Found out I had preeclampsia and would be giving birth ASAP. My poor parents were running around buying me all the things. If there is a next time I need to do the exact same thing you did! Loved it all! Best part about us have babies around the same age is I can get great ideas from your Vlogs!💕 Hope y’all are doing well! Take care! 😊

    Welcome back! I am envious of birth centers! Back in the stone ages--20 years ago--midwives in Ohio could only deliver in hospitals, and there were very few hospitals which would allow them. But I was stubborn and jumped through many hoops to have a midwife delivery. It was worth it, but a birth center like yours would have been incredible! looking forward to the full nursery tour video!! (hint hint)

    So glad that all the planning into your birthing kit paid off! Over in the U.K. midwife led care is an option for pregnancies without complications, and the birthing centres are attached to the main hospital, so if there are any complications or you need pain relief other than gas and air, you can be quickly transferred to the labour ward in the hospital.
    One of the most useful items I included in my birth bag was a tens machine! I used it at home for the early part of labour and it really really helped with pain management! :)

    • @BlairLamb
      @BlairLamb  4 года назад

      I'm so envious of the UK's model of care when it comes to birth. In my opinion, it is far superior to the US's. My doula loaned us a TENs machine and you are so right--it was aaaaamazing!!

    Edit to add: Before I was pregnant, I LOVED a can of diet mountain dew. Couldn't stand the taste while pregnant. I ended up with a c section after 24 hours of labor and while in the recover room, my nurse cracked open a ice cold can of diet dew at her desk and I literally salivated and almost asked her for a sip in my drug induced hazy mind🤣🤣 So I understand your variety of drinks packed. 🤣

    • @BlairLamb
      @BlairLamb  4 года назад

      I'll try to remember to share about the after care at home when I share more! We had a home visit shortly after the birth and were given very specific instructions on what to look out for; I had to use the bathroom before I could leave. I was also in daily communication with my midwives for about two weeks.

    This is an interesting concept (birth center). My son had two twists of the umbilical cord when I went to deliver him, which we weren't aware of. I would have been very nervous giving birth in a birth center. But I think it's wonderful that people can choose where to give birth. Do this kind of places have a plan in case the birth needs to be a C section or something like that? Mine ended up not being a c section because I was pushing well, my baby was not big, and my OBGYN was able to basically get him into a position in which he could turn him around. I think others might have just done a c section at that point, and I am super grateful he didn't give up. Having good professionals during birth is so key.
    And Nora is such a princess, such a beautiful baby!
    Ps I LOVE the Body Armors. I smiled when you said, when I am in an intense situation, like I dont know, giving birth ' that was so cute. Girl yes it is intense!! But you know that. Glad you are back!

      Hey! I use the same birth center as Blair does and was actually transferred to a hospital in labor due to warning signs that something was going on that needed extra help. Birth centers and midwives definitely watch you carefully and make well informed decisions. And if anything comes up the birth centers are usually within a 5-8 minute drive to a major hospital for safety reasons. Hope that helps to answer your question!! But yes there are definitely back up plans in place in case of needing to transfer for medical reasons.

    I just want to mention something that I hope you’ll feel perfectly free to ignore or at most just give it a thought. I know you loved your birth center staff and they were great with you. I also know how much pain you were in for months. At least some of those things that caused you so much pain could have been prevented or the pain lessened if you’d had the care and technology of a hospital. I do believe you can have a midwife be your main attending at some hospitals and technology at a hospital might help prevent some problems. I think midwives are wonderful, but so are hospitals when you need them. Please just give this idea a thought and prayer. Or don’t. I just so hate to imagine you in months of postpartum pain. Please don’t hate me for this comment. I totally respect you and am not being judgmental.
