The Ministry of Defense has issued a high alert message for a specific military base abroad as well as the bases. Since this was the first such action in the history of independent India till date, the discussion about this base started from the next day including in the national media. But it was only days later that these media learned that it was Ayini Air Base, or Hisar Air Base, in Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic. Chanakya's new video is about the base, located in the heart of Central Asia and later described by Western spy agencies as India's first overseas military base to challenge Pakistan. And let's understand some other reasons that forced India to build the said air base in Tajikistan, also called Jisar Aerodrome.

The Ayini Air base was offered to India during Congress regime way back in 80s by Tajikistan after the Soviets left. The Soviets were also not against it. But the Congress refused this offer presumably under Chinese pressure. It was under AB Vajpayee this project was given a green signal and the Base was revamped for Indian use. However the Congress which came to power later stopped developing it however our armed forces continued to maintain a small fleet of helicopters there. But in 2014 the Congress lost power at the center and BJP government tried to restart the work on this base but the Russians were not readily approving the same. It appears PM Modi succeeded in convincing the Moscow and the work restarted. The present status is not known.
Had the Congress grabbed the offer/ opportunity in the 90s this base could have become our best defence against China and Pakistan today. Sadly strong political will and wisdom are rare in India.
