Scott Henderson is absolutely legendary. So glad I caught him a few times at the Baked Potato. His Tore Down House album has my favorite overdriven Strat tones, esp on Mocha and the title track.
I first saw Henderson 40 years ago at the GIT, he blew us away back then, and now I was able to see him again a few weeks ago in a club in Hamburg, while many other great guitarists who were getting on in years are losing energy, SH still radiates the same youthful joy, I wish I could see him more often, he is pure inspiration

It is extremely subtle, but then this is the master of tone. Despite he can make sound a mop like an Stradivarius, I think I really get what he is trying to explain. Then again Scott has to have really a very hard time when he is setting up his gear due to his search for the ultimate perfect tone. Then his playing, the perfect mix between the most beautiful sweet guitar with the most outrageous and ferocious style, mixing flawlessly an extremely overdriven classic Strat and no less than a endless vocabulary deep into be bop and blues. There is no other guitar player like Scott Henderson. Not even close. And you know what if you are not familiar with this guitar genius, Listen to Dolemite from his album Tore Down House where he plays what in my humble opinion is the best rock solo ever, and after that listen to Calhoun from the album Vibe Station. This last tune, I played for a friend on the stereo the other day and he told me afterwards, man there is absolutely nothing I would listen to now half as good as that tune. Scott. King of guitar.
I just saw this pedal reviewed in Guitar World and got very curious after searching and burning through pedals that didn't match up to the hype. Went to RUclips and saw this demo from Scott. So I killed the curiosity and took the little pricey leap and got it. Well worth the money and this is a pedal is a KILLER with the tones, 💯satisfied, a pedal that will finally stick to my board!!!
I was waiting for this pedal to be released since you announced it, Scott. I think this might be the best drive pedal ever. Can't wait for mine to arrive so I can try it. Congrats! BTW I like purple. :)

The SH9 does the oooeee thing that Holdsworth mentioned as being a goal at some point, and the SD9 does more of that eeeooo thing in the middle of the neck, boo. Still, rad lick at 9:31 with the SD9!
I wonder if it is possible to get rid of those annoying frequencies by using an EQ pedal after the SD-9. Maybe you could turn down the spiky highs and the muffely basses?
I have the SH9 but it’s very noisy. A constant hiss when on. Is Scott using a noise gate? I love it but man I can’t kick it on without the constant hiss!

I also notice you don’t need to dime the volume on the new one. I know it’s not an issue for many but that’s been a downside to the SD-9 for me. Nice. Thanks!

I appreciate this pedal and Scott's commentary, but as someone who's seen Scott describe the SD-9 without reservation as the best distortion pedal ever made, it feels a little strange to see him finding fault with it to this extent.
The SD-9 is a great pedal, but anything can be improved on. You can't do a proper comparison without pointing out the faults of the thing you improved. I admit these improvements are subtile, but to people who are serious about tone, they're important. I could still do a gig with a stock SD-9 and be totally fine - these improvements are more noticeable in the studio than live.
Tone might improve with a guitar loaded with humbuckers, like a Fender HSS Strat or Gibson Les Paul. Glad someone improved on the Ibanez SD-9. AnalogMan has a few mods for both the Ibanez SD-9 Sonic Distortion and TS-9/TS-808 Tube Screamer. Who ever has the most Guitar EFX Pedals WINS.
My opinion is that you'll change your mind if you get the chance to compare them live. As an SD-9 user for over 20 years, the SH9 kicked its ass on my last two tours.

@@NicoDAlessio Thanks Nico! I love the Klon too, and find that it's a bit fatter than the SH9 for the bridge pickup, but not nearly as useful for the neck pickup. That's why I keep using the SH9 on my board cause I switch between pickups a lot.

this video is kind of funny; nothing but respect, but analyzing the subtlest minutia of a simple 3-knob overdrive pedal is kind of funny. The SH9 sounds great & looks great

Mr. Tamura added much more volume to the SH9 - this was to help players who need more gain from cleaner amps, so a comparison with the knobs set at the same volume would not have worked - the SH9 is much louder than the SD-9.

One of the main problems with the SD-9 is that a very annoying frequency shows up when the tone knob is turned up, so I wanted to show that it doesn't happen with the SH-9. The two tone knobs were set so that both pedals have the same amount of treble, but the SH9 has a more pleasing flavor of treble than the SD-9.

He (Landau) uses Vemuram pedals. He has a signature pedal with them called the Butter Machine. It's pricey, but it's incredible to be honest

Yes, but it would most likely change the tonality of the pedal/overdrive too much in a different sort of way. Definitely worth a try!
I run all my pedals through or after the Boss EQ-200. I do have an ‘81 Ibanez SD9, and the SH9 on the way. 😎

its a lo mid freq band. You can use a parametric eq to solve this issue. Plus an eq pedal improves the versatility of your rig in live situation

Great sounding pedal, but $300 is a non-starter. Would have paid $200, but I got a used SD9 and a bypass loop pedal instead for around $100.
