Rebar Pyramids // Welding Practice

  • Hi Everybody welcome back.
In this episode I am #welding #pyramids from rebar. This project started as a welding practice for welding small stock. Eventually the design became attractive and that is reason enough for a video.
The #rebar is 6mm or ¼ ‘’. This gets cleaned with a wirewheel before welding. And with that the material instantly looks very cool. Using a dril land grinder combination it’s a quick job.
The piramids are essentially triagles and when the ends meet up it starts to form the piramid.
Weights are used to keep the stock in place to start the weld.
I start with one corner and then let the pieces meet up.
It is actually not that difficult to weld this. I do make sure the material is not heated up too much or too long.
When the frame was assembled I checked the welds and added some more weld in one or two corners.
And after all that again a wire wheel was used to clean up the welds and heat discoloration.
The stick welding left the slag which needed tob e removed of course.
And then I started with the shorter one.
If you like this video, hit the thumbs up and consider subscribing.
The piramids are nice decorations pieces and they go well with the concrete and steel plant stands I made earlier.
    Thanks for watching!

I was thinking of building something very similar out of 3/8" rebar to use as movable "posts" for 34" tall fence panels (which are made from 5/8" rebar) that I electrify to restrict my dogs from certain areas. The only difference is that instead of having the cross piece at the bottom, it would be about 8" from the bottom, thus giving it some "feet" that can be put in PVC pipe to keep it from shorting to ground...

Are those 6010 welding rods? Or 7018 filler rods? Very nice work 👍🏽

Very nice! I will try to make some, good idea for practice. Just a small nitpick: a pyramid has four sides on the base, so this is more a tetrahedron.

Haha great 👍 haha true, that is the name. Although here a three sided pyramid is also recognized name.

Thanks for making this video - I want to learn to do spot welding to make trellises out of rebar ... what type of welder do you recommend ... what did you use in the video? I'm a total welding novice, but an experienced handyman.

This is an electrode welder. 6013 rod. If you can write well, welding is not too difficult. I do use this for welding rebar and concrete reinforcement so its suitable.

hey thanks man, the stick is 2.5 mm thick (under 1/8") and the type is 6011 steel. The steel is A-36 construction grade. This little welder is set at 80 Amp DC. And the duty cycle is 10% so with small welder machines its very feasible.

      @SebastiaanMollema  4 года назад

I use 6013, that is simple and praktical choice. The availability here in northern europe is good.
