      Hi, carwow. I have a suggestion. Would be great if you could test the lights as well. Since most people do drive at night at some point, it would be nice to know how the car tested is to drive at night. The lights are one of the most important security features on a car, sadly usually overlooked. Thanks in advance.

    Swapped to this after having three Range Rovers over the last ten years. Can honestly say it's the happiest I've been with a car for a very long time. I do a daily short commute and tend to do small local journeys, so am driving almost entirely on electric power. Currently getting around 750 mpg. That is not a typo. Where previously my fuel bill was creeping up to £300 a month in diesel despite low mileage, my electricity bill for car charging is around £30. Now combine that with cheap servicing, reliability, refinement of electric driving, full 4x4 capability in electric mode, cheap tyres, large boot, family friendly interior, sensible jumping height for dogs and being let out at junctions because people haven't made value judgements about you for your choice of car. Gives me a grin every time I drive it. If you do lots of long motorway journeys, or are absolutely wedded to prestige brands, then avoid this, you're probably better getting a modern diesel or petrol BMW/Audi. If you do lots of shorter journeys within a 15 mile radius and live somewhere that needs a 4x4 capable and reliable workhorse for a family, you could do a lot worse than putting this on a very short list.

      I'm in the process of buying my next car, and the outland phev has ended up on my shortlist for your reasons, it's definitely a choice of the head over the heart. Doesn't have luxury & styling wow of say a Lexus NX

    • @godsakes
      @godsakes 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@sayednab I think the general wisdom is if you mostly do long journeys (well out of EV range for a PHEV) then diesels make more sense. Comfort wise I think it's very similar to what you'd get from a toyota RAV4 or honda CR-V but it's got nothing on say a lexus NX300 (but then it's a different price point)

    I spent a good 18 months researching EVs and kept coming back to this model, the Outlander PHEV.
    I live in Central London and my daily commute is 14 miles. I can _easily_ do this on one charge.
    Wife and I both turned 50 recently and have a lot more time than when the children were growing up.
    We love traveling around the UK and France (my wife is French) and the Outlander is perfect for traveling.
    If we have to get somewhere quickly or in an emergency we can just jump on the motorway and not even think about range..
    However, for traveling around the UK we just tottle along avoiding motorways and take regular stops to visit quaint little places. We can just park up and put the car on charge and eek out loads of miles.
    We use the Chademo fast chargers to get the car up to 80% in 20 mins, and then try to use the standard overnight charger to keep the battery in tip top shape.
    We can also sleep in the Outlander...
    With the seats down it makes a *Great* little camper, you'd be surprised at just how much space there is! Easily sleep 2 very comfortably as it's perfectly flat. The rear privacy glass is fab as it keeps out unwanted glances from passersby.
    Some complain about the beeps and bongs from the various systems, not me! I'm a trekker and I feel like I'm piloting the Enterprise!!
    I got the top spec one (I bought used, but with full dealer service history) so I could afford to do for the highest spec.
    I got full leather, heated seats, adaptive cruise control, navigation, wireless audio, hill start assist, collision avoidance, lane departure warning - basically everything!
    It drives silky smooth (suspension is just a tad too hard for my liking) and feels _very_ luxurious.
    I switched to octopus energy as they have a great tariff for ev charging. I got an £80 joining bonus which is basically giving me free travel!
    Some people say that it's the wrong car for motorway driving. I can see their point somewhat, diesel works out cheaper, *BUT* if you factor in parking costs, road tax, higher insurance, ULEZ and Congestion charges they work out *much* more expensive, by a wide margin. The government is cranking down on diesels anyway so they won't be worth anything when owners are forced to get rid of them.

    • @black5f
      @black5f 2 года назад +4

      I can second everything you say. We've had one for about 2 months. Didn't use any petrol form a month as the work house is easy battery range. Had to rescue a son in an emergency 100 miles away and you can just get in it and go. Took it to Scotland a week ago, that's a 500 mile trip each way for me. Even when the battery is flat it's interesting how much it scavenges from down hill and braking. So with a full car ... 4 large adults, boot full to bursting and a roof box (definitely on the max load limit) still got 45mpg each way?

    • @hongkongfuey6882
      @hongkongfuey6882 2 года назад +1

      @@black5f That's brilliant.
      When the battery is 'flat' there is actually about 18% left in reserve. You then enter regular hybrid mode, just like a Prius.
      The battery never actually gets depleted.
      What I recently found is that you *can* use the air cooler/heater for your comfort. It's only when you use the Air Conditioner that it eats into the EV battery.

    • @black5f
      @black5f 2 года назад +3

      @@hongkongfuey6882 I think they are brilliant and very clever machines. 90% of journeys (which are short) on electric but still a prime mover. I have to add we did 160 mile round trip which was mostly single track road, very steep up and then very steep down, that was 81mpg. I'm really impressed with it. Even when "flat" it scavenges back everything it can get. It also drives extremely well, no lack of power and very steady on the tarmac. A couple of months on, the electric bill has risen a bit of course. Haven't worked that out yet. But still very impressed. We charge it just off an outside 13A socket. Very impressed. And that's from someone who has a '96 camaro sitting on the drive. 5.7 V8, being very careful on long journey 27mpg? Around 8 if your not careful ha ha! There's a reason she's got low mileage ;-)

      Nice,
      I'm riding a Audi q5 now but it has alot of issues and I dont trust it anymore.
      I'm looking for a outlander now, standard some nice options and they are more practical than the q5.
      Little bit of offroad use for hunting so I think this car will be ok.
      I drive around 10km's a day so i think the electric mode will be a nice outcome!
      This will save alot of money..
      Dont know if the 'premium' feeling will get lost but that's a luxury thing.
      It's not that pretty as my q5 not as fast, not as ergonomic but it will get you from a to b.
      Practical and alot of space for a reasonable price.
      Can't wait to get one.
      I can lease the car from our business so I can ride it for cheap!

    While Im no fan of Mitsubishi my parents just recently got the diesel version of this and it's a decent car. The interior is boring but easy to live with, fuel economy is good for the size and the fact that the 4wd auto diesel version comes fully equiped for under 26500 pounds here in Sweden is a big plus. Alot of car for the money no doubt. Personally I would have paid the extra 1,5k and got a simillar equiped kodiaq if I was hunting cars in that price range though.

    Last year I bought a 2020 Outlander Phev that was a demo with 2600km that only cost $41990 in Perth W.A. This is by far the best car I've owned including a 2018 Prado GXL & 2020 Hybrid Camry that was too small & not a good family car unlike the Phev. You hardly ever need fuel & lately have been charging for free at my work, local shopping centres & beach carparks which is a phenomenal feeling. I owned a 2014 Outlander Phev for 4 years & regretted selling it so now am stoked to have the newer model with slightly larger 2.4l engine & bigger 13.8kwh battery. Once the battery is dead I still have over 550km of range so is the best of both worlds & you can travel to regional areas without range anxiety. The instant EV torque is addictive, super quiet, quite fast & the regenerative paddles are unbelievable especially going down steep hills, approaching traffic lights or when someone locks up in-front of you. I have 20 solar panels on my roof & charge mostly in the arvo with a home charger I installed. We rarely get electricity bills - mostly get credits. My commute is 25km each way so usually get home with half a battery (at 0.0L per hundred) or if I didn't charge at work a few kms of EV range remaining. Once you drive a PHEV you realise just how good they are & don't want to go back to an ICE or hybrid car again.

    The original PHEV's used to manage the fuel in the tank. They'd force the engine on if it didn't get more than 10 or 20L every 6 weeks (don't quote me on those numbers) so if you did a lot of short journeys and didn't go to a petrol station, the engine would eventually run during every trip to get the fuel through the system.

    It runs on hybrid mod when the battery is low, so even for long journeys you will still save significant amount of fuel compare to a normal petrol.
    Because the power can regenerate base on road conditions. For examplec
    ' when you go up a mountai it may chew through all your energy but coming back down one had situation where it nearly fully charged the battery.
    All in all, driving it without a heavy foot on long trips, it's still as fuel efficient if not better than a small 2l petrol hatchback.

      @L8ugh1ngm8n1 5 лет назад +2

      It is and their is very little benefit to the PHEV part. Matt mentions tax price in relation to business / company use. Companies bought the last car for their folks to use because of this then found out that using the thing for the day to day business transit wasn't saving them anywhere near as much they thought it would (Mitsubishi claim something like 130+MPG where as most real world long term vehicle tests were finding it to be closer to 50Mpg) better than most SUVs of that size but not exactly brilliant and certainly miles (pun intended) off what Mitsubishi claim it can do). Comically the car has a bigger engine than my and most other road cars at 2.4l but because it has a comical 30mile range electric motor (after five hours of charging) it qualifies for a rebate on the final price.

    I have the high spec model however I live in Finland and at around minus 13 degrees and below the EV battery won't work. At zero to minus 13 degrees the battery power is reduced by 50% so battery milage goes from 55km to around 26km on a full charge. But honestly most people are buying PHEV's here in Finland because of cheaper road tax, no diesel tax (4x4) and cheaper insurance. But the Outlander also comes with 4WD snow mode which is essential here in Finland for 6 months of the year as is the steering wheel heater and seat heaters. Lovely car overall though.

      @@pummyy Well, I am not saying that the car overall is bad, just that the dashboard design appears very uninspired - Simple design can be good design too - it often is. But with his, there is a lack of a concept around the whole driver area, very different kind of buttons, different kind of shaping that does not appear to be related much to anything.
      You could go back to an old 4x4 Landrover or Landcruiser and there would not be much of a theme either but at least most of it would look the way it did because it hat to be sturdy - This is the latest iteration of an EV SUV in 2018 - shape design is taking some rather big steps forward at the moment - All cars cannot be top luxury segment, but many cheaper segment cars try to make the best of less with good results coming from inspired design - This PHEV just does not do that, sadly.
