Thanks, Josh, that's pretty well how I do it so thanks for the confirmation. One slight difference is that I don't wait for 90-120sec after max temp, I just run water out for about 2-3sec until the harsh "rushing" sound of the water softens a little, that seems to bring it to an okay temp. But I might try your method to compare. Not at the moment, though, my Silvia is in bits as I'm changing the steam valve o-rings!
Hey there. May I ask, changing the rings......I bought a Silvia back in april this year and my steam wand just started dripping. Plus: When I turn the steaming off, it doesn stop instantly as it did when I bought it. You think the rings will do the trick or replacing all seals etc on the whole wand-unit? Cheers
Just out of curiosity other ppl doing the machine say wait for 30-40 seconds. Won’t 1-2 minutes cool it down below best brewing temperature or is that advice only for models 2020 ?
Very helpful. My understsanding is that the optimum water temperature is 191 degrees for brewing. When I check the water temperature after your suggested wait time, the temperature is 150. When I check immediately after the orange light goes off, it's 180, still not 191 but better. Do I need to adjust the thermostat? Your thoughts are appreciated.
LOL wow, same here. I was waiting 30 secs as well, leaving my espresso surprisingly just slightly bitter, not horrible. I think I was getting reverse temp surfing (waiting for the temp to go down to the desired temp) and regular temperature surfing confused. I haven't tried it yet but I wonder if waiting 30 secs after the light turns ON will produce the same effect as waiting 90 seconds after the light turns OFF.
Great question! Because of the low capacity and the need to switch back and forth from brewing mode to steaming mode, we do not recommend the Silvia in a commercial setting. If you had 4 people walk wanting lattes, it could easily take 15 minutes to serve them using the Silvia. We recommend either the Nuova Simonelli Oscar II or its cousin, the Musica because they regenerate more quickly between drinks and have always available steam that can be dispensed while brewing espresso. A capable espresso grinder is also needed-such as the Nuova Simonelli G60 or, if a slower grinder is ok, the MCI of the same brand. A really clear and helpful video, Josh. I'm very grateful to you. Many thanks!
GREAT VIDEO JOSH THANK YOU JUST GOT A RANCILIO THIS IS VERY HELPFUL CHEERS

Thanks Josh, that helps. We've had a Rancilio Silvia for years but never really learned how to use it properly.

I don't understand why the temperature isn't correct in the first place!!!???
Its max temp, when the light goes off, is suitable for steaming, not brewing, which requires a lower temperature.
Thanks for the tip, I always thought wait 30 seconds instead of 90 to 120, no wonder my coffee tastes bitter.

Hi, what do think if Silvia uses in a small coffee shop? Around 20-80 cups a day

The correct answer to the question is obvious: install a PID.
Thanks a lot for explaining. Consider to buy a new silvia and connect a PID. I like the simplicity of the machine.
Now I understand! Thanks
Some idiot told ppl on a page to push water out around 300F. When I took the temp from the wand after 30 minutes the hottest I ever got was 180.
Excellent - Very helpful.
You spelt ‘guidance’ wrong in your video title.
Fwiw you spelled “spelled” wrong in your comment
@@shawnl7911 not so, mate. I spelt it correctly.
😂😅
45 minutes of warm up…not energy saving or for every morning
Terrible explanation about how to do this

Without temperature data why i trust in your tips? Useless video.
