    Just ordered this bag but in green. I have a Pygmy flacon 2 bag from maxpedition and it has been billet proof even being used almost daily for 8 years.

    I use one of these as my camera bag, with an Ape case insert. And yes they hold alot of gear, all very well organised. Like you I find the water bottle holder a godsend.

    A little off-topic, but the fact that there is 2 to 4 inches of snow on the ground, and no leaves on the trees, never mind what the temperature is, should give you an indication that the former occupants of that bird nest are long since relocated to warmer, more southerly climes. It's what they do.

    You can put the self reliance outfitters steel water bottle , cup and stove in the side pocket. The trick to get the cup and stove out of the pocket is to put your fist in each to get them out. The grommet catches the edge of the stove needs to be pushed out of the way.

    I love Maxpedition, However I have been buying my packs elsewhere as they appear to no longer be offering OD Green. Luckily for me I do have some older OD Green Maxpedition stock.

    I own both of these bags and I like them both and they each have there own unique qualities but the undisputed King of the Versipack bags is the Maxpedition Mongo Versipack, hands down the largest bag of its type. and like those it can be expanded with both the Anemone and the Barnacle pouches , you might even be able to get an M-1 or M-2 pouch on those pals webbing panels at the nape of the straps, i have the Anemone on mine but there are a number of two molle strap pouches that will mount there. You can also add the Janus Extension Pocket to the shoulder strap if you need more room...

    The water bottle pouch is exactly why I ordered the smaller fatboy instead. I use a Nalgene oasis bottle with a stainless steel gi cup 99% of the time. It fits inside the main compartment with plenty of room to spare for snacks and a couple red bulls . I have a mini drop pouch attached to the webbing for carrying an additional 32oz wide mouth nalgene for longer treks.

    The trick with a cup is to put your fist in the cup then press the sides to get it come straight out. The grommet inside the pouch will catch cup. I carry the self reliance outfitters water bottle, cup and stove base all in the pouch.

    It would be interesting to compare this bag side by side with an Amazon clone of this bag. I would never have bought a second product from the same maker especially if the first product was still in okay condition or there was extreme improvement in the design and layout.

    Hey bud, I got the jumbo versa as well and I ended up getting a small single sheath holster with a molle strap and attached it too where the front quick release buckle is for my tourniquet. One of the maxpedition flashlight holsters work perfect if that’s something you’d be interested in.

    Nice bag. Iv decided just to use a backpack but i can see where that or the other would be nice to use. But as far as summer go's. I would ditch the jug and cup and buy a grale and a Stanley cook cup. Why? Because both will nest and fit in that bottle pocket. Now you can ditch the life straw and make more room for what you really need. Because the grale will even remove the clorein from your tap and make it tast good. It is olso a jug. Im talking the new grale water purification system. So . Now you have room for more food or water or that beverage you enjoy or a second pair of socks. Socks hint hint. Foot power. Small cook stove or stick stove or what ever you want. Just an idea. Besides the life straw is out dated. The grale takes out all of the nastiest stuff. Where the minni or straw won't. But you will swich back come winter. You don't want any of them freezing. If they do. Their junk. The grale . The filters are replaceable there is three kinds as well. But i would only get one kind. The one that filters all. I hate the nasty tast of city water and the grale fixes that. It turns cola back to water. Hmm. That convinced me that its the one for me. There is only one other that is equal and its three hundred verses seventy five. Yep grail . Works like a french press. Hey if you did like im talking you could fit one of them as well😂😂😂. Now im just teasing. Have a nice day.

    Is there padding on the bottom of the bag ? I’m thinking about using this as my dad bag. So I take a lot of pictures while I’m with my family, also can it fit a DSLR camera and lens?

    • @northeast3604
      @northeast3604  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. It does not have any padding on the bottom of the bag. If you were worried about impact I would cut a piece of packable foam to cushion and put it in the bottom of the bag. It will fit a Canon EOS Rebel with a 55mm lens if that helps.

    I don't understand all these tiny bag videos. Winter here in the Northern PA Appalachia is no joke. If it's the middle of winter here and I'm on foot outside my vehicle trying to traverse God knows how many miles on foot in mountainous terrain hundreds of miles out....could take several days or more which means possibly having to stop and make camp for a night or two. So appropriate rated sleeping bag, tarp, etc
    ...my "bail out bag" is a USMC ILBE pack. I can live weeks out of if necessary, including my AK and chest rig. I hump it regularly to keep in shape. Full winter kit with water and food items is around the 40-45lbs mark.
    I'm guessing you live in urban/suburban NE.

    • @pennsyltuckyreb9800
      @pennsyltuckyreb9800 6 месяцев назад

      @adkmtns5726 I'm an avid outdoorsman/survival/bushcraft my whole life. I'm former LE and also a Marine veteran. I have plenty of skills. But you're not humping possibly hundreds of miles on foot, through northern PA mountains in the middle of winter. Sorry. You need some level of equipment on hand no matter how skilled you are.
      Keep in mind a USMC ILBE pack by itself empty weighs around 10 pounds. It's a heavy pack, but it's nearly bombproof. It'll scrape against boulders and mountain sides all day long and be fine.
      As far as mileage, I live rural PA. PA is a big state and over 75% is still rural country. I travel a lot. Several hours away from home is many miles on foot. Count in the up and down of traversing mountains if you have to stay off major roadways.
