I like seeing actionable knowledge that can help my get into this life. Things like resources for the basics of construction, solar power setup, the flow of drilling your own well, things like that. I like seeing what it could cost doing it DIY versus contracting start to finish, I like seeing (specifically your channel) the positive messages that go into each video of self-reliance as well as mutual respect and frugality. I DON'T like seeing gimmick products that are hit or miss, I don't like seeing clickbait titles/thumbnails that are only tangentially related to a video's content or is a much smaller section of video than advertised, and I don't like seeing selling out just to increase the profit per video. I know that last one is a hard balance to strike to keep making content creation worth it though, so it's a bit of a necessary evil haha. I also love seeing y'all support this community in big ways with the resources you have, and from the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you. I found ten acres in New Mexico that my wife has agreed we should take on that would be 9k cash, and we plan on buying a fifth wheel to put on it from FB once tax time rolls around and then pay on the property for the next four years (owner financing) while we each get degrees that will let us work remotely so we don't struggle to find work and live too rough once we get on the property. She wants to get a teaching degree and I'm probably going to get a comp sci associates. I know that getting mountain of college debt sorta negates the money saving of an off grid move, but since we're paying out of pocket for everything and have a one year old she refuses to take the leap until we are absolutely sure we can get remote work that won't lower our standard of living, since her resources of close family will no longer be accessible. I also plan on making a yt series over start to finish of creating our homestead in a way that anyone who's nervous about doing it will see EXACTLY what you can do with hard work, determination, and the will to make the leap. I really share your view that everyone can do this, and that anybody who wants to should have the tools to do so. Anyway, thats a long winded way of saying we have a plan and I need to study up top to bottom about making a home for my family. I'm not afraid of hard work nor failure, but with my only son on the line I still want to mitigate as many risks as possible with such a big life decision, and your channel helps me do that y'know? Anyway, thank you again for being so awesome, for helping this community, for putting out awesome messages of positivity, and thank you for being yourselves. You're an amazing family, and I can't wait to see what you have in store! Also sorry about the spelling/grammar errors, I wrote a wall of text and it's incredibly difficult to try and fix them all!
RUclips recommended your videos to me last week. I watched the majority of them (especially the latest) and I am really impressed by the quality and knowledge. Keep up the great work.
I just found you guys in the last week. I’m enjoying your commentary, video editing style and content. I don’t know why RUclips kept you a secret for so long! I’m a 56 yr old widow living in my van on my 123 acres in Virginia. No skills, no funds so I like the ideas you have come up with. I am interested in building things from the trees and rocks, like garden beds, fencing, small buildings. I like that you don’t have an alternative agenda, like whatever word others put before “ homesteader “. I can come here and get a sensible guy talking about how to solve problems cheaply. Stick to whatcha been doin. And thank you for teaching us.
In the homesteading community people go from making helpful content about the lifestyle. To fear based prepare for the end or get ready to fight for the right to own chickens and grow food. Been watching your content a few days
Thanks!! Yeah I've seen that too. I'm not really into most of that stuff. I'm more into setting up a lifestyle that insulates you from whatever's going on out there, best as possible at least. Then show folks how to do that even though they don't have a lot of money.
@@7kinhomestead it’s not a trait many Americans have anymore to figure out how to do stuff without spending a lot of money. I’m in Las Vegas now and it easily costs 1200 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. That would have cost 400 a month 10 years ago. While any job I get now I make what I made 20 years ago.
@7kinhomestead right and it's just going to keep getting more ridiculous in any densely settled area. I like the off grid, no debt no utility bill potential of off grid living. My back could not handle the farm animal aspect haha.
Just be you,Jason. If that means a "commercial", I know you will make it relevant to what you do. Part of being here is watching how you grow and change with the seasons. The same 'ol is the same 'ol...part of being a content creator requires change...as such, You happen to be wicked smart. You can handle it together with the Family
I think your titles are very interesting. So perhaps you've just gotten better over the years at making the videos but your down to earth personality I think is making your channel a success.
I just recently came across your videos, and you guys are very likable, I want to know people like you I have no problem if you started endorsing products you truly like.
You 2 just do you... With the heart that you have you will go far... Remember why there and doing what you do.. I will watch and continue to share. Much love folks❤❤❤
I'm working on starting my own channel as well, one of the things I appreciate with you is you're real, and every video isn't a sales pitch for a sponsor. If you use and really find value in a product, it's great to share, but there are too many "creators" who are just there for the money. Provide honesty and value, and the money will find you, be fake, and you will always chase money and have no value to anyone.
Gonna second, don’t go down the SHTF rabbit hole and turn into a doom shaman. It’s just not helpful. Continue showing your humanity, realness, love for your family and community, as well as what it really takes to set your destiny as your family builds an off grid homestead. Truly enjoy your content and love seeing yall progress. Much love bro.
@@7kinhomestead Yeah, I can attest to skipping right over the doom and gloom prepper channels, its all just the same garbage they all regurgitate, and most of them are trying to sell their books, shirts, or store / affiliate stuff by scaring people into feeling they NEED TO HAVE IT.
Please don’t hold us hostage while you do a commercial within your videos. We love your channel. You are smart and witty. We live off-grid also. We aren’t homesteaders because we don’t have animals or a garden yet.
i have the attention span of a gnat! so i love the frequent short videos (10ish minutes or less). your take on removing money from the list of how to solve all of our problems has led me to a completely different perspective and direction to get my homestead journey started!
You've done it in the past but maybe not so recently. One thing that I think many of us would actually enjoy seeing is videos in which you're not necessarily speaking a lot at least directly to the camera but rather you're showing us what you're doing around the homestead such as projects that you're working around on around the homestead. For example, maybe your installing a fence post. It might seem trivial and boring, but it's like we're standing there right next to you while you're working. I think many of us would enjoy seeing that type of video as well.
I think a great way to think about it would be to look at how your videos could add value or point people to the information in your books and other materials. For example, I've been following your stuff for a while now, getting my own self ready to embark on the homestead journey here soon. While your videos do offer really helpful perspectives, you could also show us the more nitty gritty and detailed information about particular things in the books, and then have video content explaining (and maybe demonstrating?) why the information in there is useful AND actionable.
Yeah this video in it self i feel like sums up very well what makes you special and your content real, Im just trying to whip up a homestead in the next 4 years and your content is great i hope you just keep it the same its very cool to see how you’ve found such success with fairly little financial means whatever you do though i think people will appreciate and it is cool to see what other ideas and things you could create and do with a larger community
Please just keep it real. I myself can't stand the sell outs. Learning from trial and error is always my favorite content. I also really enjoy how to make stuff work with what you have or can salvage. Not what you can buy. This is how I live my life and I really appreciate learning tips on what works for others. Not everyone can go and just buy new or pay to get others to fix it. Just my two cents.
Selling out like Canadian prepper, advertising junk that doesn't work as advertised, I bought a chicken guard door that was the most expensive piece of junk I have ever bought because of false advertising.
So after many hours of consideration on my part I suddenly realized something. Don't change your format. What happens to a lot of people is they get bigger and they get away from what made the channel great. It's RUclips so therefore it's about YOU the people. I'm here because we share similar interests and you have a good delivery and don't overproduce your videos. I'm here to see the YOU in RUclips. I think all RUclipsrs are enticed into making this mistake once they reach a certain number of subscribers, get monetized or start seeing dollar signs. Don't become a slave to the algorithm remain authentic.
You have been graced by the algorithm. In a month or a year, you may be spurned by the algorithm. Don’t become dependent on the TikTok money if you can avoid it. If you’re dependent on it, then it owns you. Keep your core mission, and enjoy the windfall, but don’t count on it.
Don't change anything. Your videos are perfect the way they are. Just be you. Your goofy antics always make me smile.

123 acres in VA would be CRAZY. I'm just trying to find 30 for the wife and I to homestead, but it's not going well. Yet.
@ where are you looking?
@@ldygzlle1291 Giles/Riner/Big Stoney... Just anywhere in SWVA that's Southern facing and has a 100 year well, lol...

sponsored ads in the middle of videos are annoying …
Keep your videos nice and short. These one hour long videos make me unsubscribe really fast.
I just ask for you to don't start using a "mask" for your videos.
Just be honest and true.
