Avoid buying kumkum from stores. They are made with chemicals that damage or harm your third-eye. It is easy to make sattvic kumkum at home. Use organic ingredients and clean, dry wooden or porcelain utensils to make your kumkum. The final color takes a few days to develop.
The powder should be completely dry before storing. Keep it out of direct sunlight, but sunlight through the windows or drying in a shade is recommended. As the mixture is drying, break the lumps and ensure that kumkum is totally dry before storing, You can store this in a metal, wooden or porcelain container.
Always offer the kumkum to Devi before using, To apply, take a little bit on kumkum on the tip of your ring finger and apply on your forehead between your eyebrows. You can also apply a bit of water on the 3rd eye before applying the kumkum. This powder can be applied on your cheeks or over your eyelids. Mix it into a paste with sesame seed oil.
