- Maritime tensions between China and Japan have flared up again, after their coast guard vessels faced off around disputed islands in the East China Sea. The incident happened yesterday near what Beijing calls the Diaoyu Islands and Tokyo claims as the Senkaku Islands. Relations between the two nations have been tense in recent months, after Japan decided to release treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Philippines also have disputes with China on the south china sea routes. It's not good idea for China as it makes lots of enemies
China claim the island first, Phlippine is disputing it... you can't blame China for the action of others... Philippine which was a colony at that time could not challenge China, so there is some reasoning for them to dispute China control, but China does control those island as there are Philippine colonial record of request to China by Philippine companies to operate on the island. so this whole thing is more complicated then you think. this is why Philippine did the PCA case which doesn't argue the island belong to Philippine, it is instead arguing those are not island. so there are alot of technicality in the matter that only lawyers can understand. it would be unfair for you to argue this is China's mistake. China is merely defeat the claim it has since the end of WWII.
Philippines also have many enemies in the Asia and South-East Asia region by letting the US troops to use more of their land as military bases. By doing this, it will be a threat to many neghboring countries around all the Philippines islands.

The first reason is during the peak, 248 Japanese lived on the Senkaku Islands, from 1896 to 1940. There was a dried bonito factory. Not to mention, Chinese have never lived on this barren island.
