Hard deck to pilot but love watching Ashani play it, my buddy told me it was pretty hard to play i see why now lol fun to watch though ill stick with kinnan 😀
It's not that Gitrog can't compete, it's that few people want to go through the madness of comboing off with it. Say what you will about Thoracle+Consult, but at least you don't have to explain it for 15 minutes
I wouldn’t know where to begin to play this deck I’m not one bit familiar with it but it went off, I know old urza and kinnan, I’m having some trouble learning turbo krrik as well I almost got it done, not a easy deck to play but I’m remembering the combos, skirg necrotic ooze, and asmodeus then grey merchant and chainer to drain and gain 🤷🏼♂️
It might be the most convoluted line ever but I will never ever stop loving the Gitrog combo. It's one of the defining combos of cEDH to me, far more even than the era of Flash Hulk or Breach Freeze or Thoracle Consult - seeing decks like Gitrog, Urza, and Sharuum are all reminders for me of when I first started loving cEDH.
It's really interesting to see how cEDH develops, but also that Gitrog is competitive in Today's cEDH tables. The more I learn about cEDH, the more I enjoy it. I've started to assemble pieces of my own deck. (I have Tymna and Thrasios in a lifegain deck) It's just so exciting to watch these games! Loving Ryan's narration as always.
This is a misleading title. It should read “Can Gitrog Still Compete… with Ashani at the helm.” Every video it seems like dude is playing a different deck with incredible proficiency. Its really inspiring to see. Keep up the great content guys.
I think the biggest issue is the steep learning curve. I sold put of magic for a few years and played Amulet Titan in Modern and Gitrog in EDH-slowly getting back in now! Both of these decks come with arguably some of the steepest learning curves of any deck in any format and a lot of times people don’t want to put the work in to truly understand the optimal lines all the time, which I get. I love excess complexity and doing stupid broken things so both decks are perfect, and they are STRONG but always underrepresented relative to their strength due to a lack of pilots.
I'm laughing to myself after the deck introductions and reading the Video's title. Like of course Gitrog is good enough to go up against these other commanders.😂
You can play a lot of things in cEDH, though I wouldn't recommend it to even the best players for a tournament in its current state. I feel like it's still a bit overrated due to its previous status but it has sadly fallen very far
Gitrog only fell out of favor because of easier combos and loops being printed. Especially when you realize that blue is easily splashed for quick wins with counter back-up.
iv been playing tatyova cedh for like a year now and yesterday i was playing on spell table and some one told me deck durdle's to much lol he was playing jhoria too loool
@@eme2costa This isn't accurate. Gitrog does trigger for each land that hits the graveyard. The draw triggers are stacked and used as needed to reshuffle, draw and cast Ebony Charm. Ashani won at instant speed with multiple draw triggers on the stack.
@@deckman2381 No, it only triggers once when multiples lands go to the graveyard at the same time, it says "Whenever one or more land cards", if it said "Whenever a land card" then it would work as you think
Unfortunately, I agree - even though I loved Monster :D - currently we have very fast decks with really stax effects on "demand" - decks like najeela or Rocco simply find an answer to moster in EVERY game...
It's not, but since it's repeatable until ulamog isn't the first card, and most tables don't want to wait until the heat death of the universe, it's generally acceptable to shortcut it, even if it isn't technically shortcuttable at an comp REL event.
@@CrownlessStudios and that makes the combo not doable. Play the whole combo throughout as it isn't deterministic, or don't use the combo. For all intended purposes, that combo is illegal as there's a small chance that the combo will never complete.
@@TheSpiritombsableye as someone who has played Gitrog, I'm happy to play the combo out. And will if someone is unfamiliar with the deck. But the number of times I've played at a table where everyone knew how the deck works AND they wanted me to play it out when I had it is 0. At competitive, it can technically result in a draw instead of a win. But at a regular table with friends, nobody wants to sit through it just because it isn't technically an infinite loop.
@@CrownlessStudios there's always a chance that you'll never get it. It is an infinitesimally small chance but it will happen one day and thus is illegal.
@TheSpiritombsableye again, true for Comp (except Comp has a match timer, so it would end in a draw), irrelevant for casual. You're not adding anything new of value to the conversation.
great game, and great work on presenting the game making clear what happens without losing time. keep going! looking for a cEDH Muldrotha game (yes you heard well, cEDH Muldrotha >.< )
Next winner competition is whoever can recite the most of the Card conduit sponsorship script without mistakes.
Before we get into tonight's game, I wanted to ask a question...
Doesn't Ryan auto win that?
@@thief_Entertainment just don't have Ryan in that game 🤔😂😂
It's always fun to see how convoluted Gitrog's combos are.
wow, Ryan deserves an oscar for keeping up the enthusiasm through narrating that entire Gitrog line
I see Gitrog in the title, I click. I would love to see more Gitrog in future episodes! All glory to the hypnotoad!
Hard deck to pilot but love watching Ashani play it, my buddy told me it was pretty hard to play i see why now lol fun to watch though ill stick with kinnan 😀
I dont understand how he gets back dark rit and lotus petal into his hand if he is ways milling his draws?
Flickering Lazav is actually very cool
This was such a cool win

I actually ended up making a flow chart the size of a card and laminating it. I keep it in my deck box to help explain to people what I’m doing.
I have the combo written on the back of a basic so people can read at their leisure
I just play a clip of subway surfers while I explain it so I don't lose their attention.

With an ebony charm!!!!!!
Ashani, you are the man!
Love watching you play GG!
See you next week!

Walk the Aeons into the OG counterspell was a trippy turn haha what a fun set of games!
It’s always interesting to see the different ways that sisay can finish the game
props for calling out the whole dredge combo play for play
I feel like Gitrog really teaches you how to abuse the stack
That second game. I’ve never seen that before. That was amazing
Would love to have watched the extended gameplay instead of the condensed on this one boys. Gitrog combos are always fun to watch.
Drake gives Cal the bird lol. Great games. ❤❤❤
This is why there was time when this monstrous frog was Tier 1.
I believe it was Tier 1.
Anyways, it hasn't dropped by a lot.
Fantastic video!

ashani you dirty dredge combo player. nice win bud
Love the Colts shoutout
Man the Gitrog lines in game 2 had my butt clenching, but he eventually found dakmor.
at 15:40 you can see it's not kozilek but ulamog that he puts in the graveyard. same ability though
I use a proxy version of emrakul since i never cast the thing anyway.
ALL HAIL THE HYPNOTOAD
Love the frog even if it isn’t the most powerful nowadays
Wow. That sissay line was very spicy I love lazav
I've seen a lot of Thoracle wins on this channel. I've never seen it Stifled. Considering Stifle shuts down that, Dockside and fetches, consider it.
first reaction: wow those are some stacked openers
What a cool pod.
Surely Gitrog could get away with running chain of smog and witherbloom apprentice
“While your on the toilet” wait whaa😂
Cal bet the over on the Colts? In what year? 2009?
6:09 "Activate wishclaw in response"... Wishclaw is sorcery speed mate 😅
It’s not! It can just only be activated on your turn :)
It’s actually not. It can only be activated during your turn. But during that turn it can be activated at any time you could cast an instant.
Gitrog only fell out of favor because of easier combos and loops being printed. Especially when you realize that blue is easily splashed for quick wins with counter back-up.
Sad to see Obeka not pop off sad😢
Ashani Great job on Froggy.
Ashani could have used his deathrite more often at alexs endstep
iv been playing tatyova cedh for like a year now and yesterday i was playing on spell table and some one told me deck durdle's to much lol he was playing jhoria too loool
Man, those were some fat fish
Ashani just too good can we get a nerf
Hey wait! Drake isn't playing mono-red! In fact, there no red in his color identity at all! Something fishy is going on here.
Playmats: One of these is not like the other.
More Gitrog!!
I dont understand how he gets back dark rit and lotus petal into his hand if he is ways milling his draws? Any help would be appreciated.
You stack lots of draw triggers on the stack, then respond to each of them with the loop. When you are ready you can choose to let them resolve.
Ohhh I see so the draw triggers are from the lands hitting the graveyard from the deck? Ty for the reply I love this channel!
FROG IS POG
Lazav!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Nice
Sooo, did Ashani not use the multiple other draws he had when he hit 2 lands on a Dredge 3?
Gitrog only triggers once when multiple lands hit the graveyard at the same time

Three minutes of video time to narrate that Gitrog turn... How long did that take in real life? Three hours? 🤣
Bold of you to assume I'm not watching the videos on the toilet and that I'm on social media at that time
Gitrog game 2 with the Magical Christmasland hand, that’s why cEDH is so fun
When gitrig started going off i dozed off and took a 2 hour nap, woke up and cant wait to see how it ends
Go colts
i dont get the gitrog combo 😅
1:49
I like any win without Thassa oracle lol, Go gitrog!!
because promouns are important when watching a mtg video lol
maybe I don't want to build a gitrog deck anymore..
this doesnt represent todays cedh tables. these are all outdated decks from when gitrog was good. put it against najeela, tivit, and blue farm.
Unfortunately, I agree - even though I loved Monster :D - currently we have very fast decks with really stax effects on "demand" - decks like najeela or Rocco simply find an answer to moster in EVERY game...
Gitrog can compete but Thalia and Gitrog is just a pure upgrade
not really, thalia and gitrog doesn't let you do the dakmor loops. You still need OG gitrog for that.
What are you talking about dawg
It’s 2 different decks one wants combo and cares about the grave and the other doesn’t and is stacks
bro says todays Cedh commanders then throws the lowest tier commanders at it
Ashani, those fingers just look so delicious
How does Ashanti know that Ulamog won't be the first card milled every time. That combo can't be shortcutted.
