You have NO IDEA the massive overjoyed grin that immediately jumped to my face when I heard those three magic words: "Media Literacy Check." I think you've Pavlov'd me, Phil. And I love it.
So much wakka slander. That man was basically brainwashed as a coping mechanism for the loss of his brother, and part of his character arc was him overcoming his prejudice as he learns the truth. 10/10 bro would blitz again
17:16 “it’s kinda like were playing fetch! That’s cute…” Well, Hades was actually a pretty chill dude and by FAR the best of the gods… and Cerberus means Spot. The god of the underworld, a well known wife guy and family man named his hellhound “SPOT”! haha Seriously, Cerberus comes from Kerberos which means “Spotted one” in Greek. Look into Hades tho, a lot of the “evil” stuff and relation to the devil came muuuuch later when Christians rewrote the mythology. Originally Hades was just another part of life, nothing to be particularly feared over any other god, death happens to everyone. Also he didn’t “abduct” Persephone, he was offered her hand in marriage… and historians have actually found that it might be backwards… Persephone was the ancient goddess of death long before Hades even existed. It’s pretty interesting stuff. Hades, Persephone and Spot are my favorite Greek mythology gods. ruclips.net/video/Ac5ksZTvZN8/видео.htmlsi=CUG0a3S2Fb7Qx7CW Red from OSP has a really great and fun video about them. They make the absolute best mythology videos of all time! Hand drawn characters, good jokes and very thorough research with sources if you’re interested. Whether you just want to look at cute doodles and listen to interesting stories you’ve probably never heard, or you’re interested in delving deep into the subject, OSP is great. Highly recommend the Journey to the West series too!
literally gasped in excitement at the media literacy segment. absolutely fucking delighted, truly fucking treasured. Phil's media literacy segments my beloved.
9:27 how relatable are those shorts… lol the perfect “I just dropped my shorts and stepped out of them because this is my room/house and I can be in my underwear if I want!” statement. I used to get yelled at for doing that right inside the front door. Kick off the shoes, toss my shirt, shorts off and plop down on the couch because I grew up in FL and Jamaica where it’s hot as hell.
Been watching you for a little over a year now Tulok, and I gotta say you’re one of my favorite creators! The soulsborne franchise, KH, and D&D are literally all 3 of my hyper fixations. I for one am very down for more KH content in particular, or maybe even some D&D story times
Alright I've got this. Ahem... The hits in the tutorial don't count because it was a dream. The hits against waka don't count because it was just a game, and it's honestly his fault for being in the path. Every subsequent 1 tap against a boss doesn't count because Sora just sneezed and accidentally swung/had a muscle spasm. In other words: 100% PACIFIST RUN BABY GG EZ. Addendum: The hits against the Barrels don't count because barrels don't have rights.
It's definitely a game that should haver been played as a kid in the early 2000's. Its clunky as hell and has a horrible camera. If you can get past that though, its a fun, kid-friendly RPG... with a massively confusing overarcing plot between games... but KH1 feels relatively self-contained. If you have the time, patience, and curiosity, Id say go for it.
I wish there was a channel where I could watch a full playthrough of Kingdom Hearts, or possibly even great games like Bugsnax and the Bugsnax DLC. (Perhaps with Tulok, AND Mango)
Tne Greek god of the dead is Thanatos! A common misconception that he is a god, he's actually classified as a titan in most mythology - oh wait that's not what you were actually asking? Aw dang it
Love the video, my partner loves Kingdom Hearts never got it into myself. Thanks for the run-down of one fraction of the story. You should play persona 5
I would say Donald and Goofy actually aren't that bad if you use the ally system but the only good option is 'hit what sora hits' which is tragically off the table.
Absolutely love this series, by far my favorite. I got so sad when you started collecting the puppies for the aero upgrade because I've fallen down that road so many times, forgetting you can't get the last one until after you beat Riku. For anyone else who wants to try this challenge, it can be made a little shorter/easier because you can sort of control who Donald and Goofy aim for by pressing the triangle button while locked on to something. They'll focus whatever you lock on to until it's down.
Hey Phil hope this doesnt come off as "You can skip radahn arrow phase" advice but for ansem riku you can avoid swinging at him by shooting a fireball. He'll throw it back and you can block it for counter damage
I'm eagerly awaiting the day that you might decide to do a KH2 challenge run of some flavor because I, too, had a hyper fixation on Kingdom Hearts for many many years.
23:16 started watching one piece in September because new baby is here but new baby doesn't like sleeping unless one of his is holding him. What a menace! Anyway, really appreciating all the uploads, especially the new variety channel, because sometimes you need a break in between 500+ episodes of one anime
Kingdom Hearts is a series that i've never enjoyed quite as much as I'd thought I would. There are lots of things that I like about them but most of them end up being less than the sum of their parts for me. I think I'd probably have an easier time enjoying them more if their ratio was more Disney and less Final Fantasy. I like a solid amount of the Final Fantasy games (and really love 6 and 7) but the things I like least about them are a large part of Kingdom Hearts. I'm generally fond of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 but have bounced off the other games every time I've tried. Some time I'll have to grind through them. I am always pleased when other people absolutely dig stuff that I don't though. The passion helps me appreciate the thing more.
The only actual "complex" parts of KH's story are A) Everyone is talking theory, the reason why so much of the dialogue sounds vague or why it "retcons" is because the entire point of the series is stuggling to define the undefinable. THIS, the first game in the entire series, ends with a debate, "Kingdom Hearts is darkness" "Nah its light" "Open the door and find out" "Ah, its light, wait no, that opened the door to darkness, wtf". The series has very few actual retcons, every character is just frequently making bad or half correct assumptions about the state of the world, which plays into its themes of uncertainty and Sora's unyielding faith in spite of it. B) the name game, lots of characters have pseudonyms, past versions, "clones", so character backgrounds have a lot of overlap, but like come one, FF7 and Metal Gear are JUST AS BAD with this.
You sound knowledgeable, can you tell why the heartless are hearts without a body and nobodies are bodies without a heart? Or was this just some cross between a factoid and coincidence?
These are still retcons though, since they retroactively change the continuity of the series. Retcons aren't necessarily a bad thing. The Keyblades being passed down as seen in BBS for example, it explores the topic further, yes, but it IS a retcon still
I always manage to forget that Nightmare Before Christmas is a Disney property. It winds up looking so different from everything else, in this game, it's still funny even now.
For future reference, it's INFINITELY easier to chain Tech Points off Tidus. Once you got the timing down you just run up, attack, back up, repeat. Occasionally he does a flip move you can't Tech parry, just stay walking back until he runs at you again.
I think the best thing about the "I'm a bad bitch, you can't kill me!" usage outside of its general comedic use is that in hindsight, yeah, a good few of the Disney bosses in this game have multiple forms and boss fights. It never really processed in my mind until now.
I love Kingdom Hearts, so happy to see this. Also super excited to see you play Nightmare Kart; that game is so much better than it has any right to be. Don't forget to unlock the true final boss.
Oh boy! I can't wait for the KH2 and so on. Never played, never give a caca about this saga, but if Tulok is driving, I'm gonna have fun. Thank for your content dude, hi from Spain!
Fun fact I learned watching a video from 2CPhoenix - you can complete the Olympus barrel trials without using the keyblade, too! There's *just* enough time to break all of them by jumping on them if they're stacked up, or throwing them at each other. The Barrel Pacifist
I'm not sure who this unnamed god of the dead is, but he reminds me of that Hades game you played on the main channel! Hopefully, you remember his name at some point!
Tidus is actually the best way to level on DI. You just run from him and he will try and do a forward lunge attack. when you see that just try and attack him and you will clash getting 1 xp. Its more consistent than Wakka and still does no damage as per the challenge.
He really said Kingdom Hearts is a confusing game but plays the simplest game in the series. Can't wait for him to try and cover the rest of the games.
Having a big ass white beard automatically clues you in on the whole "other worlds" thing. That's why Triton and Santa know. The emperor doesn't seem to but maybe his beard is not big enough
I alsways took Triton's whole distrust of keyblade wielders as him being old enough to remember the Keyblade War. You know, that thing that SHATTERED THE UNIVERSE BECAUSE SO MANY KEYBLADE USERS WERE KILLING EACH OTHER. So he's KINDA got a point with the whole 'You fuckers destroy everything around you' deal with keybearers. Also, did you know that if you lock onto an enemy in KH1, and press Triangle, your party members will prioritize that enemy when attacking? It was changed in KH2 to the 'Sora Attack' setting in the party customization menus in the pause screen, where they prioritize whatever Sora is locked onto.
49:38 "Everyone's favorite section." But really, my wife has only heard your videos in the background and calls you the media literacy guy. It's the only thing she knows about the Tulok and Mango duo, and she has admitted to looking forward to hearing what it was about every new video drop.
Actually there is a faster way to level up than wakka, its essentially the same idea but with Tidus instead because he gives 2 points, all you do it run into him to make him attack, run away repeat.
Hades! I really do love the Greek god of the dead, Hades. Would really love to see more of the Greek God Of The Dead, Hades. HE'S SO GREAT, WHY DON'T THEY MAKE A GREEK GOD OF THE DEAD...2? What would that even be called?? Hades II?? I'd wanna see that!!!
59:52 I never realized until now, just hearing his voice that Fry from Futurama must be heavily based on Marty McFly… he sounds waaay too close to be a coincidence. That’s cool, I never noticed and now I can’t un-hear it!
Gotta admit, I’m really into this “Tulok having fun with his job” arc we’re going on. Hope it keeps going for a long while.
I'm doing my part!
You have NO IDEA the massive overjoyed grin that immediately jumped to my face when I heard those three magic words: "Media Literacy Check." I think you've Pavlov'd me, Phil. And I love it.
She DOM on my KING till I HEART
Funny, my wife did that last night😊😊
That dudes wife did that to me too this morning
That dudes wife also did that to me the night prior
She Kingdom on my Keyblade til I heart
dave wright's wife also dom on my king til i heart last night
The Greek god of the dead? Why, that’s Thanatos, of course!
Thanatos is the personification of death. Pluto is the god of the dead.
Thana those nuts
@@javadkhusro No Pluto is the Roman god of the dead. You're thinking of Erebus
@@rhymetimeguy7560 I thought it was Bophadese
@@rhymetimeguy7560 No, Erebus is the Greek personification of darkness. You're thinking of Nyx.
Phil smiling and laughing with light in his eyes is good for the soul
Another VA callout: Alice is voiced by her original VA, Kathryn Beaumont, 51 years after her original performance!
Everyone watch these videos so Phil doesn't make videos that sadden him
14:40 He’s named after those supergiant roguelike games, Hey Deez
nuts
This is the best successfully failed challenge I've ever seen. keep it up, Phil! We love you!
baby Bi-panic is so accurate 😂 this is what I felt as a kid, thanks for putting a name on it! I'm sure Sora is in the same boat 😆
So much wakka slander. That man was basically brainwashed as a coping mechanism for the loss of his brother, and part of his character arc was him overcoming his prejudice as he learns the truth. 10/10 bro would blitz again
You're correct but also I'm still pissed off two decades later that a goober like him gets to get with a queen like Lulu.
Tulok and Kingdom Hearts, name a more iconic duo. You can't.

Thanatos, Greek god of death is Thanatos. I see how you could forget that one. He doesn't show up often. Once in a lifetime really.
The prophecy has been made true, Tulok shared a Kingdom Hearts video with us!
You can actually cast Fire on Riku/Ansem and he’ll dodge and retaliate with Dark Firaga, which you can deflect back.
Love seeing Tulok not actively putting himself into a depressive state for us. Thanks buddy
Greek god of the dead, let's see...
Pilates?
Euphrates?
All my single ladies?
Haiti?
Je-baity?
Yeah, I got nothing, sorry.
From my understanding; Goofy is the idea guy in any group he's in. It's especially spelt out in Dream Drop Distance with the Musketeers.

So nice to see Tulok having fun while playing one of his fave game in the most tedious way he could imagine
Perfectly Balanced
Phil, how could you forget the name of the Greek god of death??
It’s obviously Bophades
Fun fact: I'm a descendant of good old, wind painting pocahontas

thanks Duck Tales reboot!
Goofy is the smartest of the three.
Hades is such a fantastic game, I should go watch you play that again. Anyways the Greek God of the dead is James Wood, duh
hell yeah. what a fun time. i never owned Kingdom Hearts, but i did own KH2 and played it a lot. looking forward to the follow up in this series!

I am VERY excited about this! I always wanted to know what KH is about, but never wanted to play the games. This will be great
I do not appreciate the discord ping at 2:54
I always manage to forget that Nightmare Before Christmas is a Disney property. It winds up looking so different from everything else, in this game, it's still funny even now.

Yooooo the reel big fish in the transition!? You’re the man. I can tell already
It’s hades by the way! He’s the Greek god of the underworld. Anyone who pulls everything sucks out of their back pocket deserves double engagement
I always loved Atlantis it was the first level i ever played at a friend's and it sold me on the game.

My word. Trying to rely on d and g for damage is going to be a NIGHTMARE
It's okay, Tulok! Don't feel bad! Sometimes I have trouble remembering "Hades", Too.

I clicked on this video not realizing it was you and am now delighted!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

Tidus is actually the best way to level on DI. You just run from him and he will try and do a forward lunge attack. when you see that just try and attack him and you will clash getting 1 xp. Its more consistent than Wakka and still does no damage as per the challenge.

yay! ive been excited to see tulok play kh. easily my favorite series of all time.
With the quality of this video I was expecting the channel to have more than.... TWO videos?! Oh well here's a sub hoping for more.
Feel like teching tidus’s broomstick would have been a good bit faster than whacking whackas balls back
I alsways took Triton's whole distrust of keyblade wielders as him being old enough to remember the Keyblade War. The Greek god of the dead is named Hades.
Hades nuts haha :)

Hades nuts?
Got 'em
thank you for this family friendly video challenge fit for the whole family with no euphamisms or naughty jokes. me and my whole family watched it and
Really love getting you to see other games! Would love to see KH2 and 3 too even if it’s not the same challenge
