  • In this video, I go through several way that these two programs are similar and differ in some critical ways. At the end of the video, I offer my thoughts on which program would work best for broad groups of people.
    Just in case you didn't want to watch the whole thing start to finish, here are the time codes for each section:
    1:24 - Program & Interface
    11:42 - Spreadhseet Function
    17:21 - Analyses
    29:51 - Additional Packages
    34:23 - Connection to R
    38:35 - Bayesian Functions
    41:34 - Portability & Sharing
    44:12 - Overall Thoughts & Conclusions
    Let me know in the comments below if I missed something or want me to expand on a given feature of either program!

    Very cool review of both software platforms. I'm the author of the meta-analysis module for JAMOVI and it blows me away how much work people have put into making material about both JASP and JAMOVI. Thanks for the video!

      Very cool!! Yeah, when you get free, open source programs, it's content creation time. And thank you!

    Thanks that helped a lot. I ended up installing both. I plan to watch your series on both programs. Great effort was put in there 👍

    Thanks Alex for this excellent first attempt at comparing the two software packages. I have been using SPSS in my teaching. Since lockdown, and for various reasons, I started considering these two packages. Three aspects I could add. 1) Jasp has the "add notes" in the output which is a great feature for students to immediately report the findings without having to export the output to another editing package such as word. 2) This is a bigger issue, that of servicing. Paid for packages have teams and organisations behind them. Free ones, do not. This point is particularly important when you ask your organisation/university to move away from say SPSS indefinitely. 3) The R platform in Jamovi is a great feature to learn how to develop Apps and therefore good for employability. Cheers.

    My psychology department is considering good alternatives to SPSS given the ongoing pandemic.This has been extremely helpful in weighing the pros and cons of both these programs that would be generally accessible to our students. Thank you!

    I can add one more general difference between JASP and jamovi. JASP supports connection to open science platform OSF (you can open data from OSF in JASP and you can save your results into OSF). BTW SPSS offers Bayesian statistics for some years (Analyze-Bayesian Statistics): t-tests, ANOVA, correlation, regression and loglinear models. Version 27 also added some new Bayesian procedures. Thanks for comparison.

      Yes, the connection to OSF is really nice if you’re looking for that connection. Thanks for sharing!

    Having these two platforms but also Gretl and eventually Excel I can't see any point for using such expensive and user unfriendly program as SPSS

    Hello, in Jamovi, is the option to export tables in LaTeX available?
    I also need the OSF connectivity.

      @AlexanderSwan  2 года назад

      I don't believe LaTex is supported atm; I haven't checked the OSF connection in a while, but I'm pretty sure it's there

    Jamovi is a fork from JASP.

    • @AlexanderSwan
      @AlexanderSwan  4 года назад +1

      Flavio, are you staying that Jamovi spawned out of the development of JASP? If yes, then you are correct.

       @Alexander Swan Yes, I am stating that. I am a R user for more then 10 years but when I had to taught stats I looked after something more point and click and user-friendly. Then I found JASP, used for a while and all of sudden some guys forked the project. Right now I am on Jamovi ;-)
