my pop started out driving log truck in the mountains of Northern California back in 67.I went with him on a few runs when i was 7 years old and that was a blast. He rolled it of a 500 foot canyon one day in 75 and that was enough for him.He was 22 at the time. He's had a few accidents since then but been a driver for 46 years.Hauls wood chips up in northern California now,In and out of Redding California and White city Oregon. He is the best.He hasn't had an accident since the 70s.I love my dad.
you're an awesome kid then haha. are you a son or a daughter? It probably doesn't matter but I ask anyway. im a son. my old man isn't a trucker but my brother is. he retired from driving recently he's only 34 but he wants to do other things. im trying to be a trucker for ups but they're making it really hard for me. ill probably eventually go over the road somewhere else. California, Oregon, Washington are dream drives for me. definitely want to drive through there. im in NJ and there isn't many rural woodsy areas here but PA and upstate NY are pretty awesome.
Good ole Western Star, 1st built in Kelowna BC, they were eyeing the logging market, then bought out, Kenworth, Pacific, Hayes and Mack made some great 16' bunk size truck, loved driving those beasts, some 14 ' had 5and 4 tranny's, lots of folk don't even know what that is. and no air, 500 gallon water tank behind cab for cooling brakes, look em up, that driving.
Its nice you have someone to push you in the slick stuff,,, Saves chaining up every load. At least you are not sinking in deep clay. Should dry up soon and make your day go easier. Thanx for sharing the trip.
Cool vid, Thanks for sharing it. You got some driving skills, most people wouldn't think or know to rack/jerk the steering wheel when the veh isn't making the turn & it pushes straight thru.
Hey brother, I congratulate you x drive so exelente in such a wet terrain .. I admire the work .. I am from venezuela and I am a truck driver also greetings exelente video
I'm actually surprised the truck is a 10 speed. I first thought maybe a 15 but I didn't see the deep reduction switch on the side. Awesome video and nice shifting
Thanks, Most often with short haul under 80K I never found the need for more than 10, most of the time unloaded I’ll only hit 6-7 even in a truck with 18 gears in a box.
@@SuperDriver379 very true. Always get a laugh at the bobtail o/o going through all 18 gears so the other drivers know how many gears they have. I've been stuck with a Cascadia with a DT 12 autoshift lately. Beautiful truck but the autoshift never knows what gear it wants
Every automatic transmission I drove thought the engine needed to be at 2,200 on the tachometer all the time, like they didn’t tell them peak torque was under 1,500...
@@SuperDriver379 the Cascadia that I drive was detuned from 505 to 400 HP and the performance mode in the transmission was deleted at companies request so pulled a hill it won't shift down til 1000rpm and will skip every second gear regardless of weight. Then when you use manual mode you don't get your fuel bonus but your truck most likely will end up at the shop. And warming up in winter time is frowned upon too. Waste of fuel apparently. If you have a/p haul ass.
WOW, phantastic views, please do more of them, please if possible longest lasting possible from underneath drivers cab floor, to open view on pedal segments activated by drivers feet in the cabin and steering linkage....would be awesome to save pics of this mechanical technology threatened by new electric drives....
Im just starting my courses for my class 1 (in british columbia a Class 1 license is required for truck driving). I used to drive 32 foot 5 ton trucks. Over time ive absolutely come to love older Mack trucks and volvos haha. I drove a 10 speed international and a brand new auto international when i drove 5 tons
WOW, phantastic views, please do more of them, please if possible longest lasting possible vid from underneath drivers cab floor, to open view on pedal segments activated by drivers feet in the cabin and steering linkage....would be awesome to save pics of this mechanical technology threatened by new electric drives....
Thought it sounded like a Detroit , I drive one in GA got a T800 glider with a 550 6NZ 10 spd 3.90s we have to get pulled and pushed a lot here too that red clay is like ice here .
Hold on lmao. Do both so you have options. Logging is fun as hell, but depending on where you live, there’s different challenges you must face. If you live on the West Coast states, you must face twisting and winding roads up mountains. On the east coast, there are bogs and mud holes, and sometimes the roads aren’t built good so you have to go 15mph through a 10mi road. Plus the long hours. Trucking is fun and there’s money in it, but you gotta be up to the challenge you may face
I been in the bush all my life, correct me if I am wrong but your trailer didn't look like it had more then a half a load on. going by your stakes, that a big hole in your cab shield there for logs to come shooting though into the cab.
Pine is heavy, and it's an aluminum headache rack I don't think it would stop much, more of formality, I just keep the wood on the trailer whenever possible...
Looks like about my day of hauling trees.. but at a faster pace.. yeah its muddy.. it will slow every thing down.. on a good day.. 5 to the mills and head for the house 14 to 16 hours a day.. 5 and 6 days a wk
I only have 1 experience close to logging, me and my dad we’re getting a log grabber thing on wheels and the truck was a 2000 t800 with a fuel turned 550 cat with 3:90s and I’ve never seen a truck break lose before then on Georgia clay
I also drive a logging truck in northern Ontario Canada. I run a double framed t800 kw with 18000 lbs steer and 46 rears 430 ratio 70 ton 5th wheel 550 Cummins deleted. 18spd . I haul a 5 Axle timmins log trailer and fully loaded we run anywhere from 63500kg to 800000 plus kg. you can see the terrain we haul on on my channel. have a look
Ernie all he loggers in the southern states are in awe of what you guys do up there, 84,000lb gross is all we are legally permitted to do down here, but I've scaled in at 115,000lbs and the truck handled it fine.
I don't use the clutch to change gears, only to start moving. the proper way to use the clutch on a big non-syncro transmission is to double clutch and I see that as pretty pointless, I see the reasoning behind it, but its an extra step to accomplish the same goal.
I totally understand im learning that double clutch sequence for my truck and I was only asking because you might actually do a dang good job at showing me how to do it which is why I asked you maybe you could consider doing it for me and in return I will subscribe to your channel and add some of my friends on there to give you a good amount of views... hope you can!
It would help if you didn't have to go very far, but its heavy low geared and expensive, thats why its not very popular, it does help but not like night and day.
I did that in the mid eighties with a CL9000 Ford with a 425 Cat 3406 and a 13 speed. Got drug in and drug out many times in the Georgia red clay. Man if you got 500 hp get you some better tires and use it.
Oh how the average joe is spoiled these days, A/C, power windows, cruise, radios, smooth rides and quiet engines with actual power... what a time to be alive.
It’s not too bad if you build a truck to do it, in the dry parts of the year it’s the same 9-5 as any other job, in the winter months it gets more interesting.
u best be throwing a couple sets of chains on i would say specially for blocks that are farther away, i would have done so even for that one, skidder operators get pissed if they gotta keep pushing u everywhere
The sand bowl we where in was 13' deep and we can't run chains down the highway so the time you lose chaining and unchaining would be a waste considering the mill was only 6 miles away.
could you make another video where every time you shift you clutch as well i just wish you could bc not alot of guys do that anymore and i would like to see you drive the traditional way atleast just in the video you make of course! hope you can bud!
I started at 16, I’m 28 now started in a 2 1/2 ton truck and a 6 speed Mack it put food on my table until I decided being home more often was important, now I have 3 bulldozers a 120C JD and an old Allis Grader leave home at 8 back by 6, having kids changes what’s important, but if driving is something that you’re passionate about, it’s a multi billion dollar a year industry. And it’s not going away any time soon.
1st get rid of them street tires, 2nd use those diff locks and inter lock and that little bit of mud won’t stop you at all. I been driving a log truck for 21 yrs in Mississippi 3rd get them cd’s out of the way, they gonna cause a blind spot
The rear was locked up the whole time I was off the highway, if you watched the video before I strapped down to get on the pavement I unlocked them. The tires were the original tires they’re open shoulder now.

I think the most amazing thing about this video is that this driver still has CDs in his truck😂👌
I have a cassette in mine haha.
That driver looks like a young boy
Best video! Great job, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Thanks from Texas. Tho we where Mexico originally.
thats cool how the log dragger helps with the trailer
Logan Curry the skidder
Logan Curry not uncommon to have some skidder help
Skidder man has the most important job. Making sure the loader man has wood to send out. And is keeping the loader man's job easy.
I still have a heart for trucking after 20 years!!!!!!!
Cool vid, Thanks for sharing it. You got some driving skills, most people wouldn't think or know to rack/jerk the steering wheel when the veh isn't making the turn & it pushes straight thru.
could you mark the part of the video where he does it? I'd like to learn but I have no idea what ur talking about.
Cool video saw a glimpse of hwy 79,Knew it had to be carthage ,spent many days coming from kilgore over there working in the oilfiled
Hey brother, I congratulate you x drive so exelente in such a wet terrain .. I admire the work .. I am from venezuela and I am a truck driver also greetings exelente video
I haul milk now and I admire all the logging trucks I pass, I wanna try it someday. sweet video bro
Nothing better than logging and death metal bud. Y'all log truckers are a different kind of breed of a truck driving man as Buzz Martin put it
Nellson Stout different kind of imbreed
Gotta love them Jake Brakes!
Very cool video thank you for sharing and uploading.
TRAYSCAPES texas
Hey what's up brother!!!

This is a great clip taken there" and is Not a Tachograph unit in sight,!! Love it,.
Western Star have some of the most beautiful trucks I've seen.
I fancy the W900 KW myself.
SuperDriver379 KWs are damn good, but I love Macks or Peterbilts...those were made to exert themselves
I'll be a Kenworth man until I die, but the Western Star 4900ex really has me thinking about buying one.
They ride about like a John Deere tractor, they are super stiff.

Looking to start hauling logs when I retire from my current job. Thanks for the video.
There’s nothing to it.
Good luck to ya.
great video. Im super stoned right now.
The Dedicated lmao same
Same
Me Tooooo.
Same
Same
i love being driving in the field dirt mud whatever and take into the highway like you did..
man he should really have some off road tires damn
I agree, ay too much spinning in the deep sand, causing a lot of delays having to push ot trucks not designed to go off road!

Never say "whoa" when your in the mud hole!!!
N. Idaho loggers proverb. 😛
Love your video brother happy new years
those tires ar as smooth as butter
Awesome video my friend , keep the trucking videos coming my new friend and stay safe !
I was going to say that maybe you might have worked the Willis log facility if you're working this part of Texas. Thanks for the ride!
Thought it sounded like a Detroit , I drive one in GA got a T800 glider with a 550 6NZ 10 spd 3.90s we have to get pulled and pushed a lot here too that red clay is like ice here .
SOunds Great with ear phone plugs in.
Man i miss it so much best job a man could have.
What a cool job.
Right on Stud good video keep hammering I'm gone!!
Make some more log truck videos man.
AR15/Glock21 I would but I gave it up, I've always done construction work on the side and I've gotten so busy that something had to go...
ahh ok
You're one hellva log truck driver bro lol...the way my situation is looking I'll be driving one soon
job well done excellent team work
Aaahh this is my dream (J.O.B), i don't care if I'm towing logs,gas,Wal-Mart,a nookler bomb.i just want to drive a big ass truck.
Glad to see im not the only one that uses the ash tray as a phone holder in their star
Curtis R I do the same in my Freightliner. Perfect for the gps app 👌👌
Hey, he likes Dethklok! Nice! ^^ And the song is fitting, too: CRUSH THE INDUSTRY! \m/
You mean the cartoon
That..... looks fun!
2020 and still a good video and really nice job (Y)
I liked the video. Seems so scary to drive that truck.
what a monster is Western star 😃
serious truck ;)
This was cool!..best logging truck vid I've ever seen..plenty of logging trucks racing around here in New Zealand...just subbed
Be safe mate :).
A western star truck is like a freightliner classic and a kenworth t800 had a baby.
lol during a muddy beat season we have enough fun with 25 tons of beets with the aggressive tire
Running slicks in the mud? Nice video (No Sarcasm)
Its like driving a tri axle through pipe lines
Ya, I subscribed right away! awesome vidja!!
Wow! This job looks fun. I might drop out of college and get my CDL instead

i haul timber for a living in SC. i see y'all have a dempsey mill their too.
Tony nimmons For Bobby Goodson?
God damn that looks fun.

This is why I use the old CCC M916. 400 hp might not be much but I have a power rear divider and a live air locking front axle.
Awesome video
you was down there in carthage at lp

Someone asked me, is spintires realistic for logging, I said, other than crossing large rivers and driving through bogs, yes it very much so is
Un vrai truck à bois. Western Star is best in the best heavy Truck Log
Love that sound of that turbo on that 60 series
A person named Sam I have another video of it with a muffler taken off...
It's the 14L S-60
I honestly thought I was one of the only people out there who listened to Dethklok outside of the show.
I love the show but I more of a country and Western person
Nice loaded down shifting hoss! #muddy
yes he got stucka few times so wat its muddy and wet itll be stuck alot with bush tires itll be stuck too. great vid tho
must be one hell of a job keeping these trucks on the road, and watchen out for the other guy or girl drivers,
This a nice video man

cool vid, heavy foot though!

miss hauling logs now lol

It would help if you didn't have to go very far, but its heavy low geared and expensive, thats why its not very popular, it does help but not like night and day.
that's fun and all but lets have a hay rack driver drive a west coast log truck, totally different a lot more fun
And I totally agree,,, 20 year coast range Oregon log trucker !!
cool video

how bout a shot of the whole truck?

I'd rather have the 425 cat and a 13 speed. Fuck a 10 speed. 500 isn't that much bigger especially a detroit
Beast Machine! w/ Detroit series 60
Good ride. Wish we'da had cams when we were doing it with the hopped up 318s.
Cold beer you sippin on?

This is hard on the back.
My uncle works for a logging company in South Carolina and it's the nickels land clearing
God I love the sound of diesel engine
Get yourself a good kw that’s what my dad drove it has 600 hp in it twin turbos and a hella lot of work put in it
woo 100th subscriber, what do i win?! lol I drive a 2009 Western Roll-off truck. Cheers.
Thanks, you win knowledge of being the 100'th subscriber!
Normally how much distance you travel in a day in truck? How much hours you work? At what time you start the work?
How much does logging pay. I'm running a WS 4900 otr flatbed grossing 6k+ a week. I'd give it a shot if it pays good.
About 2/3 of that if you’re lucky.
Operator1836 that's unfortunate, looks like it can be a challenge and hard on the truck.

ya fair enough, I run in the rockies and it's a much longer haul, so we just chain up every time.
W0uld love to see a cold start with the inside view so we can see all the controls
could you make another video where every time you shift you clutch as well i just wish you could bc not alot of guys do that anymore and i would like to see you drive the traditional way atleast just in the video you make of course! hope you can bud!
Givin her hell, keep up the good work
Traded my 10 wheels for two tracks, but still drive to move my machines around.
Im still in high school and after i turn 21 im going to get my cdl, mad dad and my grandpa were both truck drivers
Long hours and low pay, but you are home everyday.
If you put chains, does it makes difference ?

Damn, 10 speed doing logging. What rear axle ratio?
I don’t recall the number it ran about 1,500 at 70. So probably around a 3:55
What is that Cat following?
Prentice shear.
