It's always cool to see Dingwalls get some love, since they are made in the small Canadian city I'm from.
And apparently now China.
Still dingwalls are popular as hell nowadays, I mean there's not a single "modern metal bass tone" that isn't a dingwall ran through a darkglass overdrive
@@diegodelacuadra2617 that's why I really don't want to get a combustion and dark glass. Don't get me wrong, the tone is excellent, but it's too generic. I'm finding that this d roc seems a bit different though, plus love the body shape.
@@Turak_64 having date with D-Rock tomorrow at the local music store 😊
@@DmitryShultz very nice! I've got one on order, but I might not get it for months yet
ive got a canadian d-bird (purple and wenge) and it is without a doubt one of the best basses ive ever played, its so damn versatile! ive found that lowering the neck pickup a lil bit really makes it, every pickup option its even and usable after lowering it. youve got everything! better version of a tbird, most ballsy p bass, passive musicman, and jazz bridge pup all in a bad ass playing bass. gibson tbird dont have anything on it other than heritage
I just got my hands on a ducatti white D-Roc but you've really got something special with that D-Bird!
Pete, the musician's musician. ❤️ Great video as usual guys.
Good comparison, shame you missed the Big News: The relocated strap attachments, tapered body, etc. give the D-Roc perfect hanging balance on a strap, and bring the nut a little closer. T-Birds neck-dive like there’s no tomorrow, and the first position is a looong stretch…
I'm a J bass player ,and usually a Traditional guy,as far as style goes ,but that Dingwall is great .truly modern-vintage .
As much as I like the modern D-bird design & ergonomics I think the Gibson sounds better :-)
I'm still happy with my Epi vintage pro bird though!
The hamster line about Richard Gere is absolutely classic! Hahaha
Sweet funk style picking pete!you are one of the finest musicians on this planet in my book.very inspiring!you have so much inside of you to come ou,its incredible! I wanna jam w/Pete!
I love the finish on the Dingwall!
RIP Pete’s cuticle .... wowow
Dingwall is such a brutal band. I own a dingwall ng2 5 string and HOLY FUCK, WHAT A BEAST. Best bass I ever played. And I played a LOT of basses
What's it like playing a Bass guitar . Troy Frost troyster 😎Cool Riffs
May be the most hilarious combination of lads since Bea and Matt!
Speaking of which... haven't seen them for a while... bring them back, please!
@@erpece YES!
I watched this video a week before my Dingwall D-Bird STD arrived. Now I've had it for a year. I also own a Gibson Thunderbird. The Dingwall range of tones is terrific. That said, the Gibson has an unmistakable vintage vibe. I have played them both in concerts and really can't say which I prefer, except the Dingwall ergonomics is incredible. Dingwall sustain is incredible and the 4th position (all three PU's) is incredible. Also the build on the Dingwal is incredible even though made in China. Interesting note... Gibson made them change the name and Dingwall now calls this their D-Roc STD and reshaped the body. So my Dingwall D-Bird STD is a collector's item.
I'm glad you pointed that out John, I never would have noticed. Looks like the redesign has a deeper cutout for better upper fret access. The new headstock doesn't look as cool without the contrast stripe though. Glad you like yours, the new 5 string D roc is on my short list.
@@57precision I hope you get it soon!
I came for the Dingwall, but stayed to cop all those licks in E. From both. I wanna know what was really in those white, coffee cups @2:41 ! So much laughter, giggles and insider jokes, LOL! But I loved the content and I have to check the model price of the T-Bird as I was initially after the Dingwall D-Roc on the website. Good comparison page on the Dingwall site. No prices, just how to find a dealer. Thx, guys. Good show!
Was hoping to hear about neck dive. My past Gibson’s had bad neck dive .. what about the Droc?
"Some like a little hair on it..........Shave it" Nates face was priceless!
Damn it I just love bass......and I love both these basses!
THAT GIBSON SOUNDS GREAT
Don't normally watch the bass videos but Pete is here.
they are great even without him, you'd be surprised
Tom same
Then you are shame for the human race, just kidding
damn that intro jam
I haven't tried the Dbird (or any Dingwall) yet but you probably can't go wrong with either.
Had a Heritage Cherry Thunderbird with neck through and it was incredible but in the end I am a guitarist and I let the bass go. I miss it but it was a lot to have tied up in an instrument I didn't use much.
Love these two guys, Nathan saying “I wanna dig a hole in the ground! That’s how low I want it! I agree too, The Thunderbird is an absolute beast. Have mine very low too, it’s the only way to play one!
If they make one in "non reverse" I'll buy it.
All this vintage inspired stuff these days and no one offers a mid 60s inspired spec. Aside from some overpriced hard to find limited run.
That Dingwall is gorgeous, I'd love to string it up as BEAD.
Oh god, I was thinking about adding a C string
A longer scale length makes it easier to drop to to G or F#, which becomes necessary when playing djent or prog metal where the guitarist is using an 8 string guitar. Band such as Animals as Leaders, Spiritbox, Architects, or Periphery.
The dingwall is literally better in every single way other than it doesn't say "gibson" on the headstock. Looks better, has a more versatile, tighter tone, better tuning stability and is more affordable. Gibson...sort it out haha!
This is what is wrong with guitarists and bassist, they think gibson on the headstock is a redeeming quality. If the instrument is shit it doesn't matter what is on the headstock.
@@reiniervanzwieten7092 its called reputation, and ye when you are new on the subject you'll think they are amazing
@@jakobovski13 Wouldn't say reputation, their reputation is quite bad, their notoriety is just so high and outside the ''gear nerds'' no one is really hating on gibson so the reputation might be good there but reputation of other brands is way better.
@@reiniervanzwieten7092 thats literally what i said....."if you are new to this youd think they are good"
Yes, the reach.I tried a real original Gibby T-bird once and I couldn't even reach the last outermost tuner on the headstock. Even that the Dingwall has fanned fret and longer scale, you can reach all 4 of them tuners on their headstock.
Great demo guys, Jeff in LA USA
Great video. Funny bastards, I own both Gibson TBirds and Dingwall. Both great Basses!
A contender? It's a modern take on classic design with great additions. Why would you buy a Gibson which is more expensive and has less features is beyond me
Max Antsiferov When you can buy new Epiphone Vintage Pro which crushes Gibson 👌👍
Because the Dingwall is made in China and also Specs aren't everything to a intrument. Some people would even go as far and argue that the sound of the instrument is important aswell.
@@staynoisi That "made in" is barely an argument anymore. If the company cares about what it's doing then the instruments will have a great quality regardless of its birth location. I looked through to see someone having issues with Dingwalls, and have yet to find them. P.S. Last time I checked, Gibson had awfull QC issues, which for a brand who charges 2000$+ for an instrument is absurd
@@MaxAntsiferov Gibson had bad QC in the 80s. Imo the only people who say that Gibson has bad QC are people who have never owned A Gibson Instrument.
I think a lot of people forget that components matter to the sound of an instrument and I can assure you a chinese made Instrument doesn't have the same quality of woods as an American made one.
@@staynoisi Dingwall is a relatively small company so they can have great QC. As I said, find me a person who is not happy with their bass "because it's made in China, duuh, Chinese can't make good things". As for Gibson there were scandalls like 4-5 months ago. And how the hell did you tie up the quality of the wood to the place where it's made? Wood can be imported, you know. Even if that's the case, wood doesn't play too much in the sound. Unless it's a semi-hollow or something
funny video guys, great entertainment. Prince Funkos behind Pete and a Dingwall bass.. perfect
12:45: Wow, I need to learn to flip people off with my fretting hand while I'm playing
Awesome intro jam!
"Free hamster with each Richard Gere tuner". Bahaha! 8:48
You guys didn’t put the neck dive capabilities of the T bird against the D bird
Yes, I agree, finally someone else detected this too. T-bird is the don of neck diving and one can't reach the last tuner post without stretching...
All Blues
Sweet sounds guys.
Such an entertaining duo.
How many guitarists does it take to change a light bulb? Ten. One to change the light bulb, while the remaining 9 are shouting “I could have done that waaaay faster!”.
How many country musicians does it tske to change a light bulb? Ten. One to change the light bulb, while the others are singing how much they miss the ol’ light bulb....
I'm still waiting for the guys to take a look at the Yamaha BB series basses, imo better sounds than you get from similarly priced fenders at all different price points.
Maaaan, those bases are ridiculously good for the money.
Notes:
1. Kinda Blue - the Miles album that tune is from I think.
2. Richard Gere - I always think of hamsters when anyone says Gere's name... or Robbie Williams. Poor little furry guys... the hamsters, not the 'entertainers'.
Spector vs Warwick! Please!
T-bird wins hands down as far as I'm concerned. Superior tone compared to the flesh nor fish of the D-bird.
Bridge and middle,
In parallel?
Yep
What's that mean?
Oh you know...
Almost 25 minutes and I don’t know what a dingwall sounds like...Just a chit chat show. Geezzzzuussas
1 year later I know. Look up Amos Heller.
'Kind of Blue'
No bollocks, mates! I'll take the Dingwall over the Gibson any day.
Gibson hasn't made a decent Thunderbird since the 60's. Dingwall are making the best Thunderbird now, closely followed by Epiphone
Dingwall all the way 🙌
I think the Gibson sounded better. Out of all the basses I’ve owned I always come back to my thunderbird it just punches
Awesome!
It wasn’t a hamster, it was a gerbil. Trust me, I’m an expert in such things.
Wow Pete, ...just wow
The Gibson bass had so much more bite and thickness.
Sending Andertons a bill for a glass of wine as I just spat it across the room when Pete went on his Vegan rant, bloody epic😂😂😂
Dingwalls.....weren't they a family on Emerdale.....
The Gibson sounds quite a bit better.
Thunderbird all the way!
This video was almost made for me. I love T-birds not only because they look amazing, but also because they have a very distinctive sound which fits the kind of music I do. I was however eyeing the D-bird because I tend to play in lower tunings (standard D and drop C) and the lower strings sometimes go flappy.
I was wondering if de D could do de T sound, and honestly so far it doesn't get that close.
Good golly miss Molly! More like a Thunder Hawk!!!
What's below the Orange head?
Roland Space Echo
@@OzInglorious Thank you!
Nice basses
The D roc always comes with a gig bag!
F;N GREAT... Sounds So Good Funky
I dare Danish Pete to dye his hair purple
The Thunderbird style is so superior. But the Dingwall sounds miles better
YOU GET A FREE HAMSTER WITH EACH ONE
Nathan is a treasure
"It's the way you tell em" lololololololololol
I was recently roaming the mean streets of Bend, Oregon when a bearded young man wearing tight fitting trousers approached me and said ‘BRO! HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW DINGWALL! ITS FANTASTIC!” I looked at him, smiled and said “LITTLE MAN, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ANY OF THAT MEANS BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR PASSION!” And went about with my afternoon.
Speak speak and speak ....I can't hear 30s playing of two basses! .. it was 100 times better if you just played !!
I once owned an Epiphone Thunderbird - awful bass: I should have bought a canoe and used the thing as a paddle.
Still stumps me with all these tests. The most famous thing about the original T-bird is its neck diving "capabilities". None of this compared here. Why did you even waste your time producing this video? Seriously. Not a joke. Granted, not only you but all bass tests, and God should know that Dingwall themselves has plenty of them neckdiving basses. Otherwise they wouldn't put the strap knob way into the back of the body.
Firstly, Danish Pete is my absolute favourite RUclips land guitar player, and now he’s my favourite bass player too!!!
Secondly, how much 😳 13 hundred quid for a Chinese bass? I’m sure he said they were built in China? I was thinking that I was quite into that Dingwall bass until he said how much it was and it didn’t even come with a case! I would pay the extra and get the Gibson, it sounded huge compared!
The Dingwall Combustion and D-Bird Standard are made in China, from US and Canadian parts, then shipped back to Canada for final assembly and setup. I can definitely vouch for the quality!
they totally punch above their weight, plus look at competitive options, the esp fan frets cost more, the strandberg basses are like 3 grand and made in china(i think china, but overseas/far-east for sure) the chapman fan fret costs more. china doesnt mean bad anymore, and doesnt always mean cheap either
It's worth every penny. This is their way of making them easier to get without any compromise and god damn it's worth it
Doesn't matter where its from my friend, its a seriously well put together instrument - trust me!
It would have been nice to see something inspired by the Gibson, but with a unique shape. One for one copies of bodies always leave me a bit cold.
Can I have a free guitar
gibson and fenders are so boring to me, just my opinion. I know they are good guitars.
Fake leather jacket ftw! And shoes.
1700 $ for a chinese ?
To me the cost is way too high. Also 3 pickups is too much and for the cost I would have wanted way more tonal options.
Is Nathan in every bass video high or drunk? He's allways very red on face and hyperactive
How dare you! I'd just been on holiday if you must know! And I was also completely pissed.......
First
Too many basses
Still prefer the sound of the Gibson.
A fan frett bass ...... really ?
