Awesome job making this collector J. Separators can make life SO much easier. I just wish that shop-vac manufacturers would make their vacuums with separators BUILT IN. That way, the vacuum would just be taller with no extra footprint and also less hoses. I also like yours because you made it and save money over buying one.

I created something like this last winter. The two pvc sections going in the top, the one drawing air should be nearly flush and the one pulling the dust into the pail is about 6 inches into the pail so dust can't be sucked up to the vac container. I am not liking the rubber bands holding the two pails together. Cause someone will at some point pick them both up when the bottom is full of saw dust. I prefer friction holding the two together or wedging them into each other. If you cut slits into on of the tops the other will slide into the other. Other then that it looks great. Just try to find a connection pieces to go from the pails to a table saw. That was a nightmare jerry rigging pieces to connect them. You can't find any pvc that is 2 1/4 inside dimension which my saw needed. Had to use a landscape drain tile cover and invert it to make the connection.

I added a cyclone dust collector (13€) to my shop vacuum. The cyclone dust collector got coupled with an old oil barrel of 60L. In top of not needing to empty it very often, the filter never get clogged by dust as I use (the same) filter bag since 6 months. There is very few dust landing on the bag and basically no dust at all on the filter. Cheers

Same idea works great to change oil in small engines . But instead of pails you just use a quart jar with small plastic tubing.
Thank you for the video...Awesome stuff.

cleaning your filter whit compressed air, ALWAYS blow from INSIDE OUT
Edit, in the opposite direction of the normaal air flow.

Man if the bucket was transparent or had a window we could really see it in action.

  • @Ser_Shal

Never do this! A tube with an angle of 90 degrees will constantly clog if a long piece of wood gets into it. You need to cut a straight tube tangentially from the side.

What a waste. You could have done it with one bucket and just put holes in the lid. Or better yet just clean your filter. Good effort though.
