  • Watch the race in full as Coneygree becomes the first novice to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 41 years after making nearly all the running under Nico De Boinville. As in his previous starts over fences, the horse put up a superb display of jumping and remorseless galloping to beat a big field of talented rivals.

    Incase any of the Bradstocks ever read this after the great tragedy of novice Gloria Victis in the Gold cup I personally feel it took a lot of courage to enter Conegree for the same race and what a wonderful precious race he ran ,today he has retired and I wish him a comfortable retirement,and to thank Lord Oaksey for breeding him and letting the racing world enjoy his front running gusto! Thank-you all concerned..above all thank-you Coneygree.

      Thank you for writing this. Undoubtedly if you listen to from 2 out Gloria Victis was referenced. That's how much that tragedy hurt us. I moved to Australia in 2009 so have lost touch with NH racing. Watching this race again the similarities of the 2 horses and indeed the 2 races made me nervous and at the edge of panic.

    Absolutely fantastic, what a horse he is, I have had every confidence in him for weeks, backed him at 14s,12s, 10s and again this morning at 9s, ran some bloody good horses ragged, one of the best Gold Cup performances I've ever seen, he WILL NOT be passed😊

    Fabulous front running performance, he might be a novice but at 8 he's no baby, physically ready for a GC & proved it today by galloping & jumping them ragged, great ride from Nico, no messing just let the horse do his thing & proved they made the right decision going for this instead of the RSA on ground that prob wouldn't have suited..set a V decent time in that ground too, best GC performance in a few years IMO...

      In a race containing previous winners Bobs Worth and Lord Windermere, Coneygree took the brave decision to lead from the front and prevail. Many Clouds became the latest Gold Cup participant to win the Grand National since Rough Quest in 1996. Hedgehunter finished second in 2006 to War Of Attrition. The former had already won the Aintree showpiece and came close to achieving the double.

    1) Coneygree was a novice
    2) Ridden by Nico de Boinville
    3) What a fantastic performance by the horse. Jumped from fence to fence.

    One of the best performances I've ever seen. It's awesome for Boinville after losing Rolling Star earlier in the week. A bitter-sweet week for him. Everything Cheltenham is. I can see why Mullins wanted Don Poli in the 4-miler now.. to entice Coneygree in the RSA... so Djakadam could take the glory.. but as a 6 y/o, barring injuries, he has awesome days ahead of him too, no doubt.. As for Conti ruining my accumulators.. #Sickbagconti #FlatTrackBully

    • @leesog3203
      @leesog3203 10 лет назад

      David Reid Word up.. You have to respect them after so many of their predictions came to pass, especially with Windsor Park and Conti.. I had WP at 9/1 thanks to them, but many months ago I foolishly through Conti in all my mullins accumulators and was waitin on some heavy paydays.. but I still kept the faith with him, even at 3 out, until I finally understood the hard way, what sickbag-conti was all about.. damn...

    • @cmcg3738
      @cmcg3738 9 лет назад

      +Lee SOG The sickbag-Conti shout from the Final Furlong podcast was about Silviniaco Conti going well until he reached the hill then failing through a lack of stamina to get up it.
      -He fell 3 out in the 2013 Gold Cup (no proof there)
      -In the 2014 Gold Cup he stayed on up the hill better than Bobs Worth, who won it the previous year. (proof they are wrong) He just went too quick which meant he got collared by the closers very close to home. Non stayers don't tend to get beat by 1 3/4 lengths in a Gold Cup.
      -Using the 2015 Gold Cup as proof the Final Furlong team were right about him is ridiculous because he never traveled to the bottom of the hill - he was well cooked and done for at the top of Cleeve Hill, long before turning for home. He wouldn't have won at any distance on the day. (So again, no proof they were right)
      Lets not also forget Emmet Kennedy et al were saying what a joke and a disgrace it was that the Bradstock's decided to run Coneygree, a novice, in the Gold Cup. "He should be running in the RSA and that is that - it's madness altogether." And what happened? Made prize wankers out of themselves. Funny how they don't want to talk about that, or so many of their listeners have selective amnesia about that, isn't it?
      The 2015 Gold Cup and Coneygree in particular proved FFP wrong more than it proved them right.

  • @stationofdreams8242

    Well this was as good a performance as you would want to see from a Gold Cup winner. He made all, jumped from fence to fence without making any mistake and stayed on nicely to the finish when put under pressure at the end. There are other good horses coming through too, but if this one can maintain his form then he would still take some beating if he came back again next time because he see's it out so well. Plus he will have a bit more experience. Not that he needed it today. He knew his job and he did it to perfection. Very well done Coneygree and connections for having a go with such an inexperienced horse.

    There are no certs at all. This race is very open for 2016. Unusual not to have a previous winner in the field. Shame Coneygree will miss the race. Road to Riches has been prepared differently this campaign. If Djakadam gets round he will be his main danger imo Don Poli will also be bang with them too.

    Great front running performance. A tonic that it wasn't a big stable (or W Mullins!) Jockey got him into a nice rhythm all the way. Some really neat quick jumps and hung on bravely up the hill in tiring ground. Hope he comes out of the race ok. I would hope they skip Aintree as it always comes too soon. Possible National horse when he gets too old for the Gold Cup.

    Great performance destroyed them from the front, put last years GP into perspective[a gold cup seller] all being well Coneygree Vatour and Don Poli next year. Everybody thought Longrun was a shoe in because he beat Denman and Kauto Star. I dont believe punters understand what Best Mate achieved Golden Miller Cottage Rake and Arkle. Still the best for me was L'Escargot,two gold cups and a Grand national beating Red Rum when they were still fences.

      stephen teague As pointed out, he was always going to be rested for next year. But trust me, he hasn't stopped improving yet. The only way he doesn't win next year's GC is if the Bradstocke's decide they want one of their others to win it instead.
