When you get into the Tower, remember to look up and enjoy the art ;) Supporting the "J" Cam, or Tactical Cam, was quite hard to do for all environments. All our modular sets had to support the slice point where the game hid the rest of the art. This became quite tough around the more complex walls. It also had the unfortunate effect of not many players looking up at all the effort we put in our ceiling pieces ;)

Fun Fact: All 7 background stories (when you create a character) happen at the same time. But Duncan only saves whichever character you chose for your background. The other 6 background characters die.
Nice i can`t wait for next part) Couple hint for you: 1) You can set 2 weapon set for each character and companion. On left hight corner i equipment screen you can switch between weapons set. Same switch you can see on quick bar so you can easy switch durig fight ( for example between melle and range). But take a notice that with default Tactic profile character will be switch weapons automatically if you not control it. and 2) do not waste point on crafting because companions can do it for you. But persuade can do only main character.
I just started watching this playthrough and am excited to visit this game again. I have to admit that I was IN LOVE with Alistair when I played this years ago and was actually devastated when he divorced me right before the game ended. Havent been able to play this since :D
Very interesting to see this after watching playthrough with a sorcerer. The difference between the start areas and especially the information you get about the world is great.
I like that you are willing to try and role play from the actual perspective of your character. Recognizing that if you were such a super goody virtuous person you never would be as well off in opportunity as you are. It is all too common, that no matter the origin I always see players reacting as if they were a human noble good guy. No deviance, and no thinking like a dwarf might. Acting a bit meta with the grey warden bit.. but.. yeah. Pretty arrogant to call Alistair the newbie and assume your better than him, when he is your senior. Although I'm sure you were just joking.
3:15 I recommend to not use the DLC gear at all (and not just in DAO, but also in DA2 and Inquisition). The gear is massively overpowered and allows you to use equiment of endgame level quality right from the start which completely destroys the game balance. Or if you decide to use the gear at least ramp up the difficulty to Nightmare to avoid that the enemies become total pushovers. 9:45 An interesting but really bad idea. Combat is your main source of XP, with a few additional XP earned by completing quests, disarming traps and picking locks. If you don't fight you'll not really be able to level up. 15:55 Of course it is not a scripted stealth escape. Don't forget that the Dwarven Commoner background is also open to warriors. Your character is only capable of stealth because you picked rogue as class and stealth as skill. If you had picked a warrior or a rogue with different skills (like dual wield combat skills for example) you wouldn't be able to stealth at all (mages and warriors cannot pick any of the rogue skills). A scripted stealth escape wouldn't make much sense when like 80 % of the players wouldn't be able to do it because they can't stealth.
i hate this devs' lazyness of just dumping all the dlc gear into your inventory right away. cmon, they know their game structure - couldn't they put some triggers at least for after the prologue or some lvl req?
I don't think it was laziness. I got the sense that the dlc gear was something mandated from upper management/marketing. Remember, for the most part this was promotional dlc that you initially could only get from pre-ordering the game from different retailers. I'm sure most of the programmers/devs wanted to focus on the core game and experience over something like promo dlc that they thought only a fraction of players would have access to. Considering how big the game is and how solid an experience it is, I'm glad they focused on that. For me at least, having the dlc gear in your inventory at the beginning is a minor nuisance I'm willing to deal with for a game as good as this one.
@@CdrTWrex that's not a problem if you are as self aware as mapo and choose to ignore this stuff. if not though then it ruins the intended experience - you get top notch gear and or tons of money and tons of gifts to boost party disposition with no challenge. reminds me of morrowind goty where you get db assassins at lvl one who you inevitably kill and get best armor in the game or tons of money. it's easily avoidable by either ignoring the loot and progressing the quest, installing a mod to delay them or simply turning the esm file manually. but that's if you know the game. and you only blind play the game once, so catch 22. this should've been implemented in the code initially.
@@CdrTWrex yeah, whoever made the choice to add the dlc items didn't care about balance. Some of the fine but others are overkill fir the start. Not so bad fir the stat requirements but jewelry don't really have any.
So little detail for anyone curious, but there are 3 bugs that mod pack doesn't touch. Bug 1+2) if Mapo had the DLC items on before this they would all be lost. In game you are meant to get them back at the gear chest, but the DLC and Achievement (Insanity difficulty expansion completions) will not be returned. Similarly the Dwarvern Noble and I *think* the elven commoner also have this issue. It's good to accidently find out how to avoid this. Bug 3) during the Wardens keep expansion a critical quest breaking bug can occur where the important mage character doesn't quite make it to where he's meant to be and the next step doesn't trigger. to fix this, bring a mage with fireball and use it to push him into the weird circle. you need fireball as it's the only AOE spell with friendly fire knockback and you can therefore throw him to where he should be.
i'd love to see you play dragon age 2 and inquisition aswell. although DA2 isn't a great game due to how rushed they were in production, it's still very enjoyable and not nearly as long as the other two games. and inquisition is just great, even though there's much less true roleplaying and diverging paths
38:50 you can act see her coming with Duncan and the gang lol. Also, you would like to place chars behind enemy back to make autocrit, esp ones with daggers and axes
It is good that you did not enable the DLC items till after the imprisonment as they would be "stolen" by the game. Both Dwarf origins have this happen so if you play again as a Dwarf, turn them off till after you are picked up by Duncan.
A little late to the party here, so I don't know if Mapo will actually see this, but with armor be aware that beyond the stats that each item will give you, in this game there is an overall "Set Bonus" that you can have if you equip item from the same "type" of armor (i.e Leather Boots, Leather Helm, etc). Just at the part where you equipped the Dwarven Armored Boots, which (compared to the Leather Boots in a vacuum) offer more protection, but when you equipped them your Set Bonus went away because the Armored Boots are made of Iron (not Leather, like all your other equipped armor). So, in all likelihood, your overall defense rating is now worse. Just something to keep in mind. Also, you'll know if you have a Set Bonus because an Icon will show up next to your character in the Equipment Screen.
... I killed the dog my first PT 😅 I didn't want to, but I was so sure it would attack me haha. And I always laugh when hearing your dwarfs name. Mapo Brosca - MaBro 😂😂
I'm playing a table top RPG called Blue Rose as a sort of orc like race called Night People they were genetically engineered by the demons but aren't inherently evil although because my character needed a dump stat he is as dumb as a box of rocks (or at least a dead loss academically) although he's also quite charismatic and articulate. There's also some equivalent in Dragon Age but you'll get to that fairly soon.
While fantasy is made to fantastical at the end of the day it's being created by a human. So it can be difficult to completely remove some storytelling aspects of that. If you're a DnD fan you'd know there was some dialogue on this topic a while back.
There are a few pieces that are DLC, but a kajority of what I see in his inventory now is from a mod. You can see the difference in the art style. I would say it is overpowered in the early game, but combat difficulty spikes are basically this entire game.
33:45 This is why i hate the dlc items in dao and why i never install them if i don't have to. They're all completely OP and ruin the game. It would have been so much better if they'd just integrated these items into the game in loot you find in the normal game, or through extra side quests like soldier's peak or return to ostagar. But now, just giving them at the beginning is completely ridiculous. A duster dwarf, a city or dalish elf, a new tower mage, or even a human noble shouldn't start with a ton of powerful magical items, weapons, armour, etc.
Just gonna post this now if you care about it, but once youre done with all the linear intro parts of the game and it opens up, there actually is an order youre supposed to do things that bioware thought ppl would pick up on, but they didnt, and had to tell people the order, so if you want to know: >Circle Tower >Redcliffe >Brecilian Forest >Haven
What? I always did Redcliffe/Haven first, then the Brecilian Forest, then the Circle and then Orzammar. There's no correct order. You can even start Redcliffe, go to the Circle to get mages, and then finish Recliffe. I've never seen any indication of where we should go first, in fact I first went to Recliffe (and then always went there first) because that's what Alistair suggests if you ask him, since he's related to Arl Eamon.
@@Calabresa022yes you *can* but bioware did put out an intended order shortly after released cuz players were getting wrecked when trying to do forest or orzammar first

I know I'm late to the party but I have to applaud your decision to go with a dwarf rogue.
But persuade can do only main character.
btw, buy all the backpacks you can get your hands on
and you stop right before the part im waiting to see! love the series, cant wait for the next one.
Reading the codex: "King Cailan...umm....King Cailan." 😆
Here’s a tip: you can actually drag your quick bar all the way to the right if you want more space
I love your play throughs!! You’re so funny! Thanks for giving DA a shot it’s my fav game series!
To this day I sometimes automatically say "thank the Maker" instead of "thank god" :D I have no intention of fighting this habit.
I've noticed that Duncan's VA is the same VA as Altair's assassin master, Al Mualim. So cool
The story of lathius seems to be a reimagining of Cuchulain and probably some other story and legend
Not so bad fir the stat requirements but jewelry don't really have any.
small tip: you can backstab by attacking enemies from behind
Why is "Mell Wett" so funny to me 😆
I really love the Ostagar music
So little detail for anyone curious, but there are 3 bugs that mod pack doesn't touch.
Bug 1+2) if Mapo had the DLC items on before this they would all be lost. In game you are meant to get them back at the gear chest, but the DLC and Achievement (Insanity difficulty expansion completions) will not be returned.
Similarly the Dwarvern Noble and I *think* the elven commoner also have this issue. It's good to accidently find out how to avoid this.
Bug 3) during the Wardens keep expansion a critical quest breaking bug can occur where the important mage character doesn't quite make it to where he's meant to be and the next step doesn't trigger. to fix this, bring a mage with fireball and use it to push him into the weird circle. you need fireball as it's the only AOE spell with friendly fire knockback and you can therefore throw him to where he should be.
ehh... watch you play raised memories... ok... downloading Origins again :D
Been following you with the resident evil games, currently running gos an now this old classic game. Love the content please keeping on gaming.
i'd love to see you play dragon age 2 and inquisition aswell. although DA2 isn't a great game due to how rushed they were in production, it's still very enjoyable and not nearly as long as the other two games.
and inquisition is just great, even though there's much less true roleplaying and diverging paths
Thank you, using the UI scaling mod makes things much more readable on RUclips (compression on very fine text looks really bad)!
playing this again lmao it never gets old
38:50 you can act see her coming with Duncan and the gang lol.
Also, you would like to place chars behind enemy back to make autocrit, esp ones with daggers and axes
IIRC there's a "Go to click" that will allow you to move multiple party members in parallel.
To be fair the story in the codex is actually pretty much coopted story of Cú Chulainn from Irish Mythology.
“Queen Aioli” lmao
It is good that you did not enable the DLC items till after the imprisonment as they would be "stolen" by the game. Both Dwarf origins have this happen so if you play again as a Dwarf, turn them off till after you are picked up by Duncan.
I have so many games just waiting to be played and the only thing I want to do is play the Dragon Age series again.
Alister is my FAVORITE character in this game. Love him.
1:17:03 I was really caught off guard by how much I couldn't un-see this as being so similar to that meme with Tyler One.
Oouuu boy this is gonna be a fun let's play :)
Mell Wet! Love it!
Focus on one enemy at the time and also yiu have increased hit snd crit chance when attacking an enemy from their back arc.
I've always played on console, I recently tried on my laptop, but it crashes after a while, also I can't seem to get mods to work
Have you Played Divinity ? Now THAT game is amazing. More strategic playing than Dragon Age but both amazing games !
Nope. It's less strategy, and just not as good period.
@@volourn9764 that’s not true at all, but okay
The tragedy of being a theif and not stealing all over ostagar
... I killed the dog my first PT 😅 I didn't want to, but I was so sure it would attack me haha. And I always laugh when hearing your dwarfs name. Mapo Brosca - MaBro 😂😂
I've always kinda wondered, why were we never able to summon demons despite most blood mages having the ability to summon them.
Such a great game
24:00 Dwarves mine lyrium.
Alliastar is the best boy 🥰
You're a rogue, I don't think you will need any shield.
edit: in fact he will, for Alistair.
Just like he'll need them lyrium potions for the mages companions
that water might be Dwarven Piss For mouth wash
I do wonder if there’s a gungan mod for this now
this game plays Massefect with Compsnions Hrlping u out
I'm playing a table top RPG called Blue Rose as a sort of orc like race called Night People they were genetically engineered by the demons but aren't inherently evil although because my character needed a dump stat he is as dumb as a box of rocks (or at least a dead loss academically) although he's also quite charismatic and articulate. There's also some equivalent in Dragon Age but you'll get to that fairly soon.
This is my favourite game, so happy to see you play it! Can’t wait to see your next video. 🫶🏻🖤🙌🏻
While fantasy is made to fantastical at the end of the day it's being created by a human. So it can be difficult to completely remove some storytelling aspects of that. If you're a DnD fan you'd know there was some dialogue on this topic a while back.
The topsider is luthias?
Is the gear DLC or a mod?
I don’t remember having all of those extra items just dropped in the inventory from DLC....
It is all DLC
There are a few pieces that are DLC, but a kajority of what I see in his inventory now is from a mod. You can see the difference in the art style. I would say it is overpowered in the early game, but combat difficulty spikes are basically this entire game.
@geoffrey cannon It is quite literally all DLC lol
I hope you figure out how to pet the doggie later
33:45 This is why i hate the dlc items in dao and why i never install them if i don't have to. They're all completely OP and ruin the game. It would have been so much better if they'd just integrated these items into the game in loot you find in the normal game, or through extra side quests like soldier's peak or return to ostagar.
But now, just giving them at the beginning is completely ridiculous. A duster dwarf, a city or dalish elf, a new tower mage, or even a human noble shouldn't start with a ton of powerful magical items, weapons, armour, etc.
Oh god just use the gear, while it's good at this point it's just taking up valuable inventory space. And honestly it's not op enough to not used.
Game will be easier if you hold Tab all the time, you miss do much of codex entries and so on
I wouldn’t use the dlc gear because it’s overpowered and doesn’t make any story sense for your character to have it. It unbalances the progression
"I didn't know dwarves could be Grey Wardens." ... really? 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Well, he explained why he thought that right after.
@@SolProxy yeah, but it means he forgot the open cinematic and why Duncan is in the dwarven city. It happens, though.
Just gonna post this now if you care about it, but once youre done with all the linear intro parts of the game and it opens up, there actually is an order youre supposed to do things that bioware thought ppl would pick up on, but they didnt, and had to tell people the order, so if you want to know:
>Circle Tower
>Redcliffe
>Brecilian Forest
>Haven
@@Calabresa022yes you *can* but bioware did put out an intended order shortly after released cuz players were getting wrecked when trying to do forest or orzammar first
@@soledsnak6632 I think the Forest is easier than the Circle though, I still get the shivers just by thinking about the Fade. But yeah, Orzammar is tough, the first time I did it I almost gave up, the Deep Roads is too long and the Broodmother is terrifying
@@Calabresa022 maybe but the circle is where you get wynne so having a healer really makes the game easier lol
@@soledsnak6632 That's a fair point, although I always got by using Morrigan as a healer, not to mention it's nicer to look at Morrigan than Wynne :P
