In the original script they said that the George Washington picture looked like the actress Glenn Close (which it does). Glenn Close was on a show on their network though, so they were told to change it to Meryl Streep.
For some reason, this episode apparently is controversial, with some people not liking it due to the historical element of the episode. However for me it is a top 5 favorite episode.
The people that don't like this episode reallllly dislike it usually. From a pure laughing/comedy perspective, this isn't top 5 for me. But I think from the total package (the time period change, creativeness, execution, comedy, etc.), it's a 5 star episode.
Controversial? In what way? I’ve read a lot of review comments from people who don’t think this episode is funny, but I’ve never heard anyone raise any controversy about it. I would put it in my top 10 or 12 episodes. Definitely a banger. One that I have rewatched many times.
There really weren't many references to things that you didn't pick up on. One thing that is loosely related is that the City Tavern in Olde City Philadelphia was a place where George Washington, Ben Franklin and other founding fathers ate/drank at regularly. It remained open from that period until Covid and has been closed since, though indications are that it's temporary.
I love that Mac breaks character when they are telling the story. "No.... Look, I'm holding homeboys arms back" .
@@SeanLoveRobotSome of my favorite gags are when they break out of character in time period episodes.
