A lot of work went into these shows. I was 5 years old when it originally aired. I had a little boy crush on Dorothy Collins. The sets were clever too.
Due to numerous copyright claims, Raymond Scott's 'Powerhouse' [12:53] was eliminated from this edition of the program. But if you've ever heard Carl Stalling's frequent arrangements of it in his Warner Bros. cartoon scores over the years, you'll recognize it!
TV becoming so expensive already switching from radio era one sponsor to shared sponsorship. Soon participating sponsors then the clutter of many individual spot announcements. From 1 minute norm to 30, then 15 seconds. Now an hour in non-prime is only 40-42 minutes of program content.
I’m listening to the first song. Is she lip-sinking? It looks like it. Easter Bonnet, too. They must be. No lapel mics were around. We don’t see any boom mics .. that heavy instrumentation would bury a singer without a mic.
The sync on this episode is all screwed up, with the picture ahead of the sound; although you ask a very good question-! I've looked at several episodes , and as crazy as it seems, I really do think all the vocals are preformed live - even though you'd think the occasional mic boom and/or microphone would intrude on the image.

"'The following program is *'YOUR HIT PARADE',* as originally telecast on April 16, 1955."
We always watched it when I was little. It sure would appeal to small children! Davy Crockett was a wonderful surprise!
