Please note how he moves with the music, not against it. He flows with the music, his movements help amplify his interpretation of the piece. He is literally dancing with the notes to produce this beautiful piece.
Joshua Bell, your pitch was beautiful. I loved how you put passion into your music. I wish to play the violin like you --- A great fan of Joshua (Joshua Bell, if you read this, please reply)
It was the delay effects he had. It was being processed through the microphone analogs channels to a DSP. And the DSP does its magic of doing digital reverb and putting it back out for your listening pleasure.
And Joshua Bell is amazing! I think just few violonists can play Paganini's compositions. Joshua is one of them. He moves like that because he is in a "different world" when he plays. He can bring heaven on earth. And I love and respect him for that.
you people don't understand Joshua Bell, and you don't understand Paganini. When you hear this music, you hear an entire orchestra! The sound of an entire ORCHESTRA played with a single violin...Search for Paganini's life on the internet, and you will see who he was and what was so spectacular about him."Sounds of different musical instruments and animals were often imitated in his compositions"
when Paganini was playing this piece, people from the audience rushed on the stage to search for violonists hiding behind the curtains...because the piece sounded just like 4 violonists playing at the same time. And Joshua Bell is one of the few interprets who can play this piece exactly as its composer: Paganini. It is not an "echo" it is the technique to play on one violin the sounds of 4 violins...
Joshua is the best violonist of our times.Clasical music is'nt about technics. The worst interprets consider technics more than passion and flowing with music. When Joshua interprets Paganini, he is the music himself, and his interpretation takes you to higher levels. You feel you have to cry, cause Joshua's interpretation touches your soul and spirit. And that sound at the end is like they were 5 or more violins on the stage playing at the same time. Read Paganini's life and you'll understand
He's a wonderful virtuoso...and I don't believe he is out of tune...he played beautifully..but that's just how I see it...music like so many forms of art is in fact subjective..
you the best i ever herd plays paganini,,there many players plays the caprices with more perfection then you , but no one has your way ... i wish you all success... maamoun daou...an ex paganini s player
i wish you guys who comment so strictly could play half the way he plays... Even if this is not his best performance he is certainly a world acclaimed artist and a magnificent violinist .
My mistake, I don't think you can find her (Hilary) live on this particular Paganini, but you can find other equally difficult live performances by Ms. Hahn, which are, as I said, quite solid, to say the least.
my friend you may be right in many things and i won't deny that Kavakos is outstanding and all the others that you mentioned but that doesn't mean that i don't respect Joshua Bell. I have a master in violin performance and i know how difficult it is to be such a good violinist. I saw him play live and he was very expressive and moving and for me that is more important than sheer technique and perfection. He might not be my "idol" but still i avoid being "absolute" in my criticism.
Curioso efecto el que produce el acople de sonido al final de la grabación, probablemente al recoger la música directa más la de los altavoces con un cierto retardo.
I wouldn't call Hilary Hahn a "pretender." However, I agree with you about Joshua Bell, and Vanessa Mae should not even be mentioned amoung these artists.
Wesman, I like your comment(s). I am not being a contrarian here, but pull up Hilary Hahn playing this piece, also live, and her intonation is as solid as a rock! Again, I am an unabashed Hilary Hahn fan, so you may take my opinion with a grain of salt, but still, in tune is in tune. Although, to your point, one can never be totally sure with videos. It may very well be the quality of the recording which might not be representing Mr. Bell's actual performance accurately and fairly.
Anyone who says that his playing is bad, post a reply, and show that you're better. You can say all you want, but at the end of the day, he is a better player than 99.999% of the people out there and the other .001% wouldn't comment on how bad his playing is because they are his colleagues. Again, if you can do better, and you can't or else you wouldn't be on youtube mocking great violinists, just show it, and stop commenting on how bad his playing is.
@guarneriviolinaddict Good review of Bell. He dances about like he's high on coke. There is no need to do this. I don't know if Heifetz ever flubbed any notes {which ones?} but Bell certainly has. I showed this to my African wife, and she told me, "He dances around like Masai warrior." As one person noted, he reminds me of the Energizer Bunny. And that sums it up.
@racer500gp You are correct. The Bell will NEVER reach the level of Heifetz. Please read Uncle Junior's comments on the Bell's playing of Bruch concerto. The acoustics sound like he's playing the violin in the shithouse. Everything is blurred. Paganini is easy to interpret but hard to execute technically. The Bell, however, makes it look harder than it really is with unrestrained body movements & constipated facial gestures. Heifetz set the standard for the 24th & was Michael Rabin's idol.
Are you a violinist? The physical strength required to play the violin is not of the big-muscle sort that Hahn may lack. Furthermore, Heifetz was a quite feeble man. Also, her tone is perhaps the most powerful out there... in fact, it's problematically heavy in some repertoire, because she doesn't modify it. The sexism implicit in your comment would be less offensive if your observations of her playing were accurate.
Really? Have you ever heard Szeryng, Fuchs, Oistrakh....? I heard Mr. Bell yesterday evening in the Corigliano's newly arranged concerto version of the Red Violin score, and maestro had difficulty doing anything remotely musical, probably because his line was constantly being disrupted by his Lang Lang histrionics!
The echo makes it sound rough. A piece like Paganini's capriccio 24 should be clean to really admire the talents of the performer. It sounds way better, cleaner, and smoother when it's played by Itzhak Perlman or Heifetz. I'm not trying to diminish Bell, I'm a big fan of his, but I'm just expressing my opinion.
I have respect for some of the things Mr. Bell has done and some of his compositions and I know him to be an accomplished violinist, that said, this is a massacre of the Paganini 24 Caprice. Such a fine violin does not deserve the electronics--but I imagine he does what he must to attract an audience impressed by such things and not necessarily fine tone and technique; He's got to pay for the Strad after all.
the only violinists that ive heard better that are alive are leonidas kavakos and itzhak perlman, that being said i wonder if anyone has even come close to playing the way paganini did , we will never know but we can only imagine what that must have sounded like
I would have to respectfully disagree with "wesman" at least in part. I do agree that the effect is strange and that people who love Joshua Bell over rate him and people who hate him under rate him. I have seen him in person several times and generally enjoy him a lot. Here I think he is clearly out of tune at more than one point and it just is not a piece that resonates with his strengths. It's OK, but not his best work.
I've seen this violinist a couple times live...the skipped notes and intonation slop come from constant adjustment of bow to violin. Too much moving around for show vs movement out of emotion. Watch footage of the greatest violinists of our time and note the absolute attention to control of the instument. Perfect performances are really quite rare...even Heifetz has blown a note or two in passing, but If one focuses on what the audience hears, rather than sees...this is perfection
Joshua bell is definitley not a horrible violin player but I would not even consider "As good of violinist ever was" This peace is exceptionally difficult but come on. He played several sour notes and his bow work was not extremely impressive. I still dont believe how anyone can compare this to the works of great violinists such a heifetz
I love his hair too:) It almost adds character to the music when he plays.
Please note how he moves with the music, not against it. He flows with the music, his movements help amplify his interpretation of the piece. He is literally dancing with the notes to produce this beautiful piece.
Joshua Bell writes his own cadenzas and has since he was eight years old... amazing is hardly a word to describe this genius violinist.
My Love! and Respect! for Such virtousity!!!.and creativity!!!, mainly in cadenzas he himself writes!
Joshua Bell, your pitch was beautiful. I loved how you put passion into your music. I wish to play the violin like you
--- A great fan of Joshua
(Joshua Bell, if you read this, please reply)
Don't care for that style personally but appreciate its level of difficulty
It was the delay effects he had. It was being processed through the microphone analogs channels to a DSP. And the DSP does its magic of doing digital reverb and putting it back out for your listening pleasure.
lol..he is 42...that hair is awesome though...it's his signature..it flies whenever he plays
And Joshua Bell is amazing! I think just few violonists can play Paganini's compositions. Joshua is one of them. He moves like that because he is in a "different world" when he plays. He can bring heaven on earth. And I love and respect him for that.
this is amazing to listen to through headphones.
Fantástico top demais parabéns pelo vídeo maravilhoso meu amigo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷❤️🇺🇦

До мурашек¡!!!
"Siento" algún bache en 0:08 y 0:15 pero a partir de 0:26 es absolutamente magnífico.
(desde España)

Agreed, Kogan definitely the best, mexindian.
Over forty years ago I got the record of him playing this concert, and it is still my favorite version.
I'm not saying I've never heard of the effect, I'm saying I've never heard those kind of effects on classical music.
thank you. thank you for making me laugh so much. your last 2 comments are absolutely priceless!
He's a wonderful virtuoso...and I don't believe he is out of tune...he played beautifully..but that's just how I see it...music like so many forms of art is in fact subjective..
you the best i ever herd plays paganini,,there many players plays the caprices with more perfection then you , but no one has your way ... i wish you all success...
maamoun daou...an ex paganini s player
i met him before and he is a marvelous human being.
i wish you guys who comment so strictly could play half the way he plays...
Even if this is not his best performance he is certainly a world acclaimed artist and a magnificent violinist .
I think so, too !!!
24th caprice...my favourite
❤❤❤❤
when you move around it shows te passion.
thank you
i agree
I am a voice major and you guys have really sharp years here. Keep in mind that his violin is pretty old, that could might affect tuning.
BUT WHAT WORST MYCROPHONE ECHO why?
LOVE
@maddy3187 Hilary Hahn is another great violonist, I appreciate her very much, her interpretation too takes you to higher levels.
what's the name of this piece ??~~ X( ...i really like it
beautiful
they're card harmonics , he only half stops the vibration of the string at a certain note, the wave is shorter
My mistake, I don't think you can find her (Hilary) live on this particular Paganini, but you can find other equally difficult live performances by Ms. Hahn, which are, as I said, quite solid, to say the least.
@hkhannah99 the echo ruins the crispness of the piece, which is why people are hating on it so much.
simplemente magnífico
Virtuoso...beautiful..^_^
♥ the echo :)
Magnific!!;)
GOSH THIS WOULD BE PERFECT WITHOUT THE ECO.
Never heard it played like that..........
@justwarren it sounded like a mess because of the echo (from the mic, perhaps?) that you can hear more prominently at the end
45 seconds..... All that's needed.
Angelo Ortiz all that’s needed to know that he is not that good
my friend you may be right in many things and i won't deny that Kavakos is outstanding and all the others that you mentioned but that doesn't mean that i don't respect Joshua Bell. yes it is

agree
@hale2jasper This is the 24th caprice from Paganini's 24 caprices.
its good...
many people talk about passion in music. how can you hear it? I'm just curious
chingon
@dxhaloxc yes! his interpretation is matchless
OMFG -.-
Caprice #24 by Niccolo Paganini...
How does he make the high-pitched sounds that he makes on the violin?
caprice no.24 by paganini..he is paganini's heir
Anyone who says that his playing is bad, post a reply, and show that you're better. You can say all you want, but at the end of the day, he is a better player than 99.999% of the people out there and the other .001% wouldn't comment on how bad his playing is because they are his colleagues.

so nice ^_^
Chuck Norris did this with a straw and a rubber band...
i think it sounded awesomr with echo :)
@guarneriviolinaddict Good review of Bell. He dances about like he's high on coke. There is no need to do this. I don't know if Heifetz ever flubbed any notes {which ones?} but Bell certainly has. what was he thinking!!!!!!! Echo effect!!!!
@thepromman i know. it makes the notes sound less pronounced and clean. It very much ruins the tone quality
intonation...
its 24thcaprice and it's paganini's variation.
Rarely do you hear violin + effects pedals. That's a new mix. XD
I think it's way too fast. My brain almost exploded from the rapidity and high notes.
The people who dislike this probably can't play the first note
how old is he now??
I know eh?..crazy!!
PLEASE TELL ME THE EXACT NAME!!!PLZ
@thoroughlyThoreau well, maybe that is the secret of playing on 1 violin the sound of 4 violins ;)
@yenniesaurable the people who dislike dont like the echo
cant believe he was ignored.. people are so biased...
I've never heard of that.
he is a romantic violonist, not a extremly technical virtuos
@racer500gp You are correct. The Bell will NEVER reach the level of Heifetz. Please read Uncle Junior's comments on the Bell's playing of Bruch concerto.

Actually Joshua Bell is better then Leonidas Kavakos. He has alittle more feeling and better intonation. And his intonation is pretty good too.
recording is out of pitch, when I try to record myself I'd lose 1/4 to 1/2 of the tone.
@csenge19 Don't forget Hilary Hahn
@WUTaTALENT well, there was this awful echo to blame as well
the only violinists that ive heard better that are alive are leonidas kavakos and itzhak perlman, that being said i wonder if anyone has even come close to playing the way paganini did , we will never know but we can only imagine what that must have sounded like
yeah, the echo is a bit much...
Why the upbow richocet become a spicatto haha
jsyk, the really old violin gives him no excuse, as the strads only get better as they age.
Now once again with clear passages and no Echo please
@csenge19 joshua bell is a commercial violinist, money making machine nothing else
inanılmaz
