AMAZING video! Such an extensive topic - your presentation is super informative yet concise and easy to process. You did a great job - thanks for sharing your knowledge!
i have always love eating and that made me lose weight super hard, tried a lot of diets and exercises along with it, but what made it possible was agoge diet. it changed my life, and maybe yours as well
I know all about macros, but this is the best source of information on macros. i liked your clear simple explanation and i especially liked that you made a point to say that everyone is different and we all need to choose what is right for us as individuals! i preach this ALL the time!
+Angela McPherson thank you so much, I am so glad that you enjoyed it! I agree, we are all different- which is why I won't provide a ratio recommendation because it's really going to vary so much by person! :) Thank you for watching!!
just discovered your youtube channel! im loving it. I tried all the diets out there, atkins, keto, vegetarian, vegan, strictly counting macros. I ended up losing weight but nothing stuck long term and I ended up gaining all the weight back. I love to workout. I now have a personal trainer too and he told me to STOP eliminating and stop dieting. I am now starting to practice portion control, which is hard, considering i am used to eliminating food from my diet. I also do not strictly count calories anymore. All these rules, i think just overwhelmed me thats why I kept gaining the weight back. Now, I just follow a guide by precision nutrition. a fistful of veggies,, palm of protein, cupped hand of carbs and thumb size of fat. Little adjustments here and there, like i eat a bit more carbs when I work out and limit them during the times I dont. Have you heard of this? its really helping me not feel deprived! i feel like it will work long term!
An intermittent fasting vid I was watching ended with a count and logging of macros, like a really detailed tracking...with a special software and clicks for butter, clicks for eggs, clicks for cream in coffee... 😲 So I said let me look into these 'macros' since this was not 1st time hearing about them. I did a search "why track macros?" and voila... I think she did good with these explanations 👍
This is first video in a long time where I did not go straight to comments and not paid attention to the video. I’m so glad I just focused very informative!
Thank you. I learned a lot from this, it is something that I have learned in the past, but didn’t fully understand. I still have some questions even now. But I just wanted to say that I’ve lost 20 lbs over the past 4 months, and I did not do any sort of low carb. I just did low calorie and worked my ass off at the gym. I’m at a healthy weight now. Before I lost the 20lbs, I was at the high end of having a healthy BMI. I was right there at the end of that range. So, now I’ve lost the 20 lbs and am feeling pretty good so I’m trying to learn how to really get a tone, lean body. It seems so hard but I’m going to keep trying.
For me the gains were more reps, and more energy, more miles (jog). It allowed me to work on form and injury prevention. A healthy breakfast will push your strength to new heights.
This video was so helpful! So much easier to understand than what I've read. For my body type it works better for me to be higher in protein than in carbs. I try to make sure most of the carbs I get are complex and I make sure I get the bulk of them after my workout. I've noticed a lot of carbs do make me bloated in overindulgence. I feel fuller longer with more protein in my meals. I'm keeping track of my macros (started in November) and I'm definitely #teamprotein 💪🏻 You listened meats under fat, but I've read it's considered a high protein source. Is it more one than the other??
+P3acexL0veScr1be So glad you found it helpful! Absolutely, our bodies will definitely respond differently to different ratios. I've found that more complex carbs make me bloated but fruit does not tend to do so. I also add protein to stay full!! Meat is definitely both protein and fat but depends on the source. Lean chicken, for instance, is more protein. Beef can have just as much fat as it does protein :) Same with fish. White fish tend to be lower in fat, but some fish like salmon, while high in protein, also contain a good amount of healthy fats :)
I've been a frequent stalker of your channel for awhile now, and you guys never cease to amaze me with your content! This was very informative and loved how you broke it down in simple terms. I appreciate that you keep a non-bias approach to healthy eating and your graphics & editing = impeccable! Enjoying this kick-start series, thank you for the motivation and inspiration.
+Viva Liz Vegas Thank you so much! I always love seeing your comments and am so glad you find the content useful and enjoyable :) I appreciate your support, it's very motivating to me :) Cheers!
I'm currently in #teamprotein however the folks over in #teamcarb live longer I think and have healthier vital organs, which is a concern since I'm pre-diabetic. And even though that sounds counter-productive, I feel a detoxing effort is what my organs (kidney, pancreas, liver, gut, skin etc) really need at this point in my 52yrs.... I intend to make sure my #teamcarb transition is as healthy as possible... meaning I will avoid things like bread, rice and corn 👍
You are great at what you do. You created a very captivating video and really maintained my focus on a very important topic related to health, survival, and good functioning.
My pleasure, I'm so glad to hear the information you find here is helpful for you and your family! That's wonderful! Kudos to you for seeking out the information :)
This was so informative!!! I've been thinking about trying macros as I get more into lifting. I want to use it as a way to better understand how food fuels and affects my body. Thanks for the info! #TeamCarbs
I'm not sure but ,if anyone else needs to find out about #1 weight loss program try Slim Tactic Formula (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
If you want an idea for what you need of the macros then do a tdee calculate. Type it into the search bar and then fill in the info to learn what you need to have x
I've been on the same diet for 2 decades now. If it ain't broken, don't fix it, right? So I have never looked into the "macro" diet because my diet works so great! Finally did today and what do you know, the diet I got on all those years ago was the same thing. We just referred to it as whole foods, balanced diet back in the late 1990's. This diet is the most effective and sustainable for fitness. I highly recommend.
definitely the easiest explanation out of most macro videos i've seen. it makes jumping into the keto diet not seem so dreadful!! Thank you so much!!!!!
+Mara de Diego Esteva Honestly, I can't recommend that. MOST people generally recommend higher protein and lower carb for losing weight/fat, but muscles need carbs for energy. I'd suggest starting with the basic suggestions, but upping your protein a bit, and seeing how your body responds to the fat and carbs. I used to do lower carb and found my body functions much better on higher carb and lower fat, which is what I do now, although I don't track what I eat :)
#teamcarbs I eat a sweet potato a day :) I'm studying to be a dietitian, and I have learned so much from you especially in videos like this where you break down nutritional labeling. I wanted to ask, do you have any schooling? Whether it be a nutritionalist or dietitian? (they are two different professions, as I'm sure you know. that's more so for anyone else reading.) but I have to say you are mimicking everything I'm learning. BRAVO!! :)
:) I'm so glad you're finding the channel enjoyable, thank you! I am mostly self taught. I do personal training and group fitness so I have some nutrition education that comes along with that, but most of my knowledge is from my own research and reading driven by my passion for food and health! :) in college I decided to not study nutrition or dietetics, because where you study really affects what you learn. There is nothing wrong with formal education, it's of course great, but nutrition is still such a new science and so many developments are still being made that different programs "preach" different things. I think 50 years from now we will know so much more and might be surprised by some of the things we are "told" to do now. It's amazing really! I decided to follow my other love (design) in college and do health as my passion project. It's of course become more than that now :) I'll never stop learning, and I love learning the different viewpoints and lifestyles that exist! Cheers!
+Mind Over Munch I'm studying dietetics too! And I couldn't agree more that what we learn now will somehow be changed in the future. Look at the changes in the nutrition world from high carb is better to low carb, low fat to high fat, etc. etc. In the end, though things will certainly change in nutrition research, and as dietitians we're responsible to keep up on continuing education credits to maintain our certification so we stay up to date on the current information. And, like you, I love learning so I'm very excited that this is built into my future profession for sure. I'd also like to applaud you for really keeping this video to the facts and stressing that not one macronutrient breakdown is better, and everybody's body will prefer different macro distributions. I always get nervous when people start touting that one particular diet is better, especially when lots of people can be watching. I'm happy to see that you're not doing that and simply providing everyone with great information as they begin their health journeys! Thank you! :)
We hear “macros” flying around all the time… say what? Here’s a brief explanation. Don’t forget to tell me… are you #teamcarbs #teamfat or #teamprotein!?
Hey! Have you done a video on carbs vs. Net carbs? Which should we measure? Also, how many grams of carbs/net carbs should we have per day for fat loss?
I've got a friend with PKU- so she can't have a protein based diet. Shes team carb (even though shes trying to lose weight on it with mixed results- those simple carbs trip her up.) I've got a friend with a neurological disorder, she functions best on a lot of animal products, shes team protein. Aaaaand then I have the friend with fibro- she gets gut blockages if she has too much fiber. she avoids carbs and has to be careful about veg. Shes team fat.
Great video! #teamcarbs here! Legumes are also very high in protein. And nearly all plant foods contain ALL the essential amino acids, just in varying proportions. If you're eating a varied plant based diet, you'll be getting more than enough of all the essential amino acids.
oh my gosh i love you and your channel i think your channel is the best in all the healthy channels in RUclips! thank you so much for your awesome videos😃😃😃😃
It's good to be aware of what net carbs are and fiber is great but at the end of the day carbs are carbs, so if you're tracking macros all carbs need to be accounted for. Hope this helps!
Very informative, thank you! I don't have a preference, per say, but I believe that eating as unrefined foods as possible, is always better for your health in the long run. It's also way tastier...! ;) #TeamEatRealFood? :)
Ok so I entered all my info in and suggested macros I must consume just feel like it's so much more than I eat everyday I feel like I'm gaining after day 2
Protein is my favorite, 2nd fat, 3rd carbs. I lost weight on high protein and low carb plus exercise and my green tea of course. From 158lbs to 120lbs.
I tend to look closest at the protein count when it comes to making my breakfasts and lunches, because I have a very high-activity job and protein is what keeps me full and active the longest between meals.
The simple idea of “mind over munch” has helped me lose over 53 lbs so far. Real talk. Your videos are the best. Thank you for helping me become a healthier and happier me!

Very informative, thank you! I don't have a preference, per say, but I believe that eating as unrefined foods as possible, is always better for your health in the long run. It's also way tastier...! ;) #TeamEatRealFood? :)

That's great you've learned that about yourself and your body!
