You make it look easy Mr. Skinner! I just placed an order for a copy of your book, Striper pursuit. I look forward to reading it! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Those false albacore (Bonita's) are great cut bait and the trim the skin down and cut trolling strips out of them. They are tough and deadly. Thanks for the video
Great video skinner! I usually always do well with a Blue pencil popper. I'm more of an inlet fisherman, but off the beach is fun too, when you are able to get into a good spot over by cut 3 morriches
John, I too like the XD for added distance when I need a popper to cut the wind, but I've noticed I don't get "spitting" action with it that I do with the regular talk'n popper. I think u inadvertently touched on that b4 u hooked up with that little tunny. Do u find that decreased spitting action too?
JS, good fisherman. Very informative vids. Listen to him. You don't need a big expensive boat, smoke cigars, and a plumbers license, to catch fish, just a brain.
Hi John, Two questions.... if the tin is skipping most of the time during the retrieve, can albies still get a hold of it? Should I be skipping a little less and try to swim fast just under the surface? Second question.... I figure a casting float/egg (essentially a bubbler rig) with a spro bucktail teaser in green/yellow might be a more forgiving rig for the novice albie fisherman. What do you think?
Hey john. Very new to LI surf fishing! Everyone says that my best shot is to walk to the point. Is there more fish in the inlet at the point or am I ok by the jetty. Thanks!
Hi John, why did you pick this particular part of the beach? are you familiar with the structure there or did you read the beach? Also, is this the 5inch or 6inch XD talking popper?
I've heard this is effective for bottom fishing black fish. it's called a top shot. I can't speak to it's effectiveness, as I'm not a bottom fisherman. I have seen it recomended for line shy black fish.
Hi John, I've decided to retire my old SS Penn reels and am in the market for a new 3000/4000 size reel. Saw your video about the Clash. What's your view about the Clash versus the Slammer III? I take it this is a prerelease version of the latest reel?
what are some good lures and rod choices for some one who is on a small budget and trying to go from fresh to saltwater to get some bass and bigger fluke?
can anyone (including Mr skinner if you're reading this) recommend a good start up rod and reel combo for bass and blue surf fishing? I'm just getting into it - I did buy this book, haven't finished it yet...I believe it recommended a rod/reel combo but I can't recall at the moment
Do you know of any good locations for starters that want to try surf casting? I have a rod and popper and everything ready, just not sure where to start.(I'm from south shore Long Island btw)
Part of the fishing culture is that you don't give spots away. I am not John, but your best bet is to learn to read water, and how to find spots on your own. It is more satisfying when you are successful, as a bonus. John's books and many other great books go into detail about how to do this. On the South Shore you should have fish in the area wherever you are. I go on local scouting trips which double as nice sightseeing trips to beautiful beaches here across the sound in CT :P As you start out, you may run into other fishermen and you can network with them about your local fishing. In person, and especially if they see you out there and you exchange information two ways, people are more likely to help you with tips on local spots.
I love how most these comments ask what's this where's that and what's the exact setup your using and these guys think oh if I fish with the same setup and lure as skinner I'll be just as good as him LMAO
I don't mention it because it is absolutely meaningless without knowing the precise location. On this stretch of beach there's a spot that produces best near the bottom of the tide and another that produces near high tide and you can walk from one to the other. More important on this trip were the approaching storm and time of day, both of which were mentioned.
You need to put the time in. The best way is to be out all the time & pay attention to all the conditions, keeping a record of them & if you caught or not. If you live to far to, you need a guide or someone willing to take you around. Good luck!

Great video as always John

Awesome as always!
Just bought the same exact popper yesterday. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow 😁😁
Ive had the popper for awhile its a phenomenal lure but I havent had any luck yet lol
thomas materka b
Love your channel
Hi mr skinner I have an question when the mullet are around do you think a blue buckail would work well
Look at that albie fight! Dying to get out there and catch a few of those!

that spot must have good structure are you casting to a bar with a trough quick question John do you still use eels in the fall?
eels are good anytime during the bass season.

My GoTo is a #2 deadly dick skipped at top speed. You can't outreel an albie. I have many albie vids on my channel demonstrating.
Same for me, my fav time is when we have a sustained period of high pressure and a low pressure is approaching.
Hey john. Very new to LI surf fishing! Everyone says that my best shot is to walk to the point. Is there more fish in the inlet at the point or am I ok by the jetty. Thanks!
False Albacore looks so delicious.
I saw you couple times using van staal which size do you use for lamiglas 9 ft John skinner
200 for me, some would use a 150.
Great video! How far were you able to get the plug out?
good question, most of my plugs/poppers don't have good distance on a cast and I'm an experienced fisherman
Hi John, why did you pick this particular part of the beach? are you familiar with the structure there or did you read the beach? Also, is this the 5inch or 6inch XD talking popper?
6-inch. I'm looking for bars, troughs, whitewater, water movement...
thank you for your reply! does this rainy weather make you want to go out fishing today? lol
Thanks for the videos...would there ever be a time when you would use a long leader, i.e. 9' 50# mono with a uni to uni knot to your braid? Thanks...
I don't do that.

If your reel will see a lot of water, go with the slammer 3, else go with the clash. The clash is lighter, the slammer more water resistant.
Sucks that the Slammer 3 wont be available till December, was looking forward to using one this fall.
where on the north shore is best for albies?
Great video John, was wondering what brand lip grip you use on bass and blues when you're on the rocks. Thank you
what are some good lures and rod choices for some one who is on a small budget and trying to go from fresh to saltwater to get some bass and bigger fluke?
Tight Lines !
Do you think the color matters very much for these poppers? Also how do you remove the single hook when replacing it with a treble? Thanks
What brand pliers are u using ? And what do u recommend ?
What lure is it?
The lure is very similar to a Patchinko top water walk the dog lure.
John, does your 9' rod have a parabolic action?
If I'm going for strippers and blues should I use a steel leader ?
Paul Puccini strippers respond better to silver and gold more so than steel.
john skinner all I can say is Thank you............

www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/topic/613153-newbies-look-here/
I need to get some sand spikes for my rods
caught A schoolie in the high 20's caught on the whopper plopper 190 (black)
Why use a green leader instead of clear?
Gay fuck you
Yeah puss Ok

SimpleDerp watch a vid on how to identify beach structure. Go down to ur local beach at low tide and look for the structure. Fish those spots
Tsunami talking popper xd
I highly doubt albies are line shy, they swim at 30 mph for crying out loud
What beach/location is this at?
he won't divulge that, but this is definitely south Shore of long island and in Suffolk county, probably east of islip
I love how most these comments ask what's this where's that and what's the exact setup your using and these guys think oh if I fish with the same setup and lure as skinner I'll be just as good as him LMAO
I wish there was a way to keep in contact with you as if we had any questions for you
Why don't you ever talk about the tide skinner? It's very annoying
