In Lotr backstory, in the past long before Frodo's quest there was event known as...the Great Plague (or Dark Plague) a deadly infectious disease which spread across Middle-earth: "The second and greatest evil came upon Gondor in the reign of Telemnar, the twenty-sixth king... a deadly plague came with dark winds out of the East. The King and all his children died, and great numbers of the people of Gondor, especially those that lived in Osgiliath." The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A, Annals of the Kings and Rulers: Gondor and the Heirs of Anárion ... "In the days of Argeleb II the plague came into Eriador from the Southeast, and most of the people of Cardolan perished, especially in Minhiriath. The Hobbits and all other peoples suffered greatly, but the plague lessened as it passed northwards, and the northern parts of Arthedain were little affected." The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A, Annals of the Kings and Rulers: Eriador, Arnor, and the Heirs of Isildur Art imitates life and as for centuries our world was plagued by epidemics and so it happens in fictional worlds of our imagination. And just like the fictional peoples of Middle-earth managed to survive and prosper once more so will the world now: "Beyond the Baranduin the Periannath survive, but suffer great loss." The Lord of the Rings, Appendix B, The Tale of Years: The Third Age ... "[The Hobbits] prospered and multiplied after the Dark Plague (S.R. 37)..." and so let this be message of hope.

Just found this and we’re all out of lockdown now and things are more or less back to normal but I feel like everyone is suffering some level of PTSD from the whole event… this was like a flashback 😂
Bilbo Baggins: Good morning. Gandalf: What do you mean? Do you wish me a good morning or do you mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not? Or perhaps you mean to say that you feel good on this particular morning? Or are you simply stating that this is a morning to be good on? Hm? Bilbo Baggins: All of them at once, I suppose. Gandalf: Hmm. Bilbo Baggins: Can I help you? Gandalf: That remains to be seen. I'm looking for someone to share in a quarantine. Bilbo Baggins: A quarantine? No, I don't imagine anyone west of Bree would have much interest in quarantines. Nasty, disturbing, uncomfortable things. Make you run out of toilet paper. Heh, heh. Mm. Huh. Hmm. Oh. Ah. Good morning. Gandalf: To think that I should have lived to be "good morninged" by Belladonna Took's son as if I were selling emergency supplies at the door. Bilbo Baggins: Beg your pardon? Gandalf: You've changed, and not entirely for the better, Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins: I'm sorry, do I know you? Gandalf: Well, you know my name, although you don't remember I belong to it. I'm Gandalf. And Gandalf means... ...me. Bilbo Baggins: Gandalf? Not Gandalf the wandering telemarketer... ...who made such excellent hand sanitizer? Old Took used to have some on Midsummer's Eve. Heh, heh. Ahem. No idea you were still in business. Gandalf: And where else should I be? Bilbo Baggins: Where else...? Ahem, making more? Gandalf: Well, I'm pleased to find you remember something about me... ...even if it's only my sanitizer. Yes. Well, that's decided. It'll be very good for you (Bilbo looks at Gandalf confused) and most amusing for me. I shall inform the others. Bilbo Baggins: Inform the who? What? No. No. No... Wait. We do not want any quarantines here, thank you. Not today. Not... I suggest you try Over the Hill or Across the Water. Good morning.
People like you Charlie are the contemporary heroes, in a time of fear and loneliness, you have brought hundreds of thousands of people around a vast planet and oceans apart, together, in laughter, in writing, in communication, no barriers, no distancing... So thank you for brightening my day.
While on Mount Doom: Sam: [Both are overcome by exhaustion] Do you remember the pre-quarantine, Mr. Frodo? It’ll be spring soon. And the shelves will be restocked. And the children will be testing in the public schools. And they’ll be sowing the summer wheat in the Mexican fields. And the restaurants will be open again... And wiping for the first time with Cottonelle Ultra. Do you remember the feeling of toilet paper? Frodo: No, Sam. I can’t recall the taste of food… nor the sound of flushing water… nor the touch of grass on the front lawn. I’m… coughing in the house, with nothing, no medication… between me… and Covid fire! I can barely see it... with my aching eyes! Sam: Then let us be rid of it… once and for all! Come on, Mr. Frodo. I can’t vaccinate it for you… but I can social distance you!
Then coronavirus took me, and I strayed out of breath and time, and every day was as long as a life age of the earth. Cured, I was sent back until my task is done. I return to you now at the flattening of the curve.
"Where are you going?" "I ride North. To GuudandBaad. Are you coming with me?" "GuudandBaad! But, there's nothing there but bare shelves!" "The Dead shall not suffer the Living." When did Sorry Man the Wise abandon treason for Herd Immunity?"

And there was a food court, where you could get Chinese, or Indian, or Italian if it took your fancy? And there was pepperoni on the pizza, and sausage if you wanted it too, and even anchovies?"
"No, Sam," said Frodo", "I know that such things happened, but I cannot see them. No taste of food, no feel of soda, no sound of the PA system, no memory of shop or plaza or parking lot, no payments of cash or credit or debit card are left to me. I am naked, stuck at home, Sam, and there is no veil between me and the COVID virus. I begin to see it even with my waking eyes, and all else fades."
Whoa, and what happens to them next Sir Wizard? lol
Wunderfull....
I never even went to the mall before this madness, now I feel tempted because no more crowds lol

Rewatching this in October as we're all going back into regional Tier 2 and Tier 3 lockdowns and it's still just as funny!
The whole time I thought this was AI doing the voices, incredible impressions mate! You put a lot of work into your videos and it shows.
this video should be spreading twice as fast as corona... lets get to it.
"Even the smallest person can change the course of the infection."

I’m kinda pretty sure sir Ian McKellen is so bored you employed him to do this.
On a serious note you’re doing a serious damn job !
Stage 11: Watch the whole damn series again.
Loved the video, especially 'Reading your Diary'; 'we cannot go out, not even for Bingo'... and 'on a serious note'--how true: "the only reason to be afraid is if everyone's not in this together"
That end bit should definitely be the new video to make everyone stay inside!
I know right!
@@CharlieHopkinson why don't you spread it on it's own through social media?
It should be a separate video so it can be shared easier! It was actually very moving.

@@nemak89 technically yes, when the world was first created it was flat, and as different races were made, arda became more spherical to prevent the newer ones from getting into valinor (elves still could). "ALL the spaghetti." Too much!
There's no way Gandalf would say "me and all these elves". Tolkien was a damn English Professor, he would say "These elves and I".
He's probably still in his state of delirium
Protip: to know whether it should be "and me" or "and I", take the other party out of the sentence and then use the one that makes grammatical sense.
@@rollingthunder1043 same deal with "us" and "we", "he/him" and "she/her". Don't say "her and her friends did __" it's "she and her friends", because you wouldn't say "her did _". Ya know, just a couple weeks ago, I was doing some gardening and I asked my husband to help me. He was getting poked with thorns so I offered my glove. Can we just enjoy the fact that there's not a single ad in this?
John Watson: Good morning, ah, where are we, exactly? Have you seen Sherlock, the idiot refuses to stay insi- hey, you look familiar...
People like you Charlie are the contemporary heroes, in a time of fear and loneliness, you have brought hundreds of thousands of people around a vast planet and oceans apart, together, in laughter, in writing, in communication, no barriers, no distancing... So thank you for brightening my day.
While on Mount Doom:
Sam: [Both are overcome by exhaustion] Do you remember the pre-quarantine, Mr.
Smaug: “You think you could deceive me to go OUTSIDE Barrel Rider”
Then coronavirus took me, and I strayed out of breath and time, and every day was as long as a life age of the earth. Cured, I was sent back until my task is done. I return to you now at the flattening of the curve.
