@@crisbwilliams Man you brought it out of storage for him and he rags on it in the review? That'd urk me. The review kinda pissed me off being a prior 3000GT owner albeit non turbo. Saying it's slow and fragile was just uncalled for...

  • @jbdub08

    Couple thoughts:
    1) The clutch pedal is fully adjustable on these cars from inside the vehicle. It's just not set correctly. I adjusted mine, and now it bites all the way at the top.
    2) This particular Stealth wasn't well maintained, which is really important for those cars.
    3) If heal toe is "freaky" to him, then he's prob not the guy who should be critiquing a twin turbo, AWD, AWS sports car.
    4) These engines start to wake up around 4500-5000 rpm. He's shifting at about 4000. Remember, these cars were from the early 90's when turbo lag was still a thing. Stealths and 3000gt's redline at 7000 rpm for a reason. Use it.
    5) The stock flywheels on these cars were way too heavy, and the slow revdown was pretty brutal on the synchros during "spirited" driving. Especially 1st to 2nd. Wasn't surprised to see that.

They had a lot of tech that was out of this world for 1991, and the automotive industry hadn't had a chance to work out the kinks in that technology yet. So they do require you to pay attention to things mechanically. It's not a car that you neglect and drive the piss out of without checking stuff on it occasionally, or you'll end up walking. But mine has 157K miles on it, and it's the most solid, best running vehicle I own.

Are you kidding?!?!?!??! It's about time you featured a car like this from the 90's! I remember when this, the 3000Gt, Toyota Celica GT etc all came rolling out. The Dodge Stealth in the Pearl Oyster was stunning as hell. Alas, I bought a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS before these beauties came out. However this is not a DSM as it came from Japan. At 300 horsepower with 307 lb.-ft. of torque, the Dodge R/T Twin Turbo could move from zero to sixty miles per hour just a hair above five seconds. For comparison, it was about half a second faster than the 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra, which was Ford’s top-of-the-line pony car at the time. as someone who loves cars (especially sports car) i find this video harsh. This car was a limited number made, is super stunning and also packed a punch back then. Love how it sounds and can imagine it a lot of fun to drive!!!

My grandfather had a silver Dodge Stealth twin turbo, it sat in his garage for a while when I was a kid, broken down but outwardly cool to my child mind. When I was a teenager he gave it to his neighbor's kid for helping him out, I hope it's lived a good life.
He got an RX-8 afterwards, traded that for a Mini Coupe.

Love these, but hated working on them. Had two 3000GTs, a 92 SL and a 92 VR4. If I remember right, when you turn on the parking lights, there should be another roller switch to adjust the brightness of the gauge clusters. Was able to get really bright in mine... and the better part was my 92 SL had a white backround housing for the gauges to make them stand out a whole lot. I would buy a GTO if I had the chance and money to get a clean unmolested one... but I have had other rides that have been way more fun than my 3kgs.

To all the people saying bad/worn clutch. A worn out clutch -raises- the bite point on the pedal, not lowers it, and only on cable clutches, hydraulics should keep the takeup the same.
Since the Stealth is a hydraulic clutch it seems like they set the bite point low from the factory, all that's needed is to adjust it, which can be done from behind the clutch pedal. There's an adjuster and a lock nut.
As far as getting gear changes to be smooth. I found on vehicles with bad or no syncros it's easiest to just lift off when going into neutral, and then clutch only when going into a gear. It ends up working like a double clutch for half the left leg work, and won't hurt anything since the transmission isn't under load when coming out of gear.

    • @crisbwilliams
      @crisbwilliams 6 лет назад

RTDragonCommando it what I’ve been saying... you can drive the car and double clutch it in 2nd and it’s fine. I just haven’t got around to fixing it yet but it’s still fast as hell. And the bite on the clutch isn’t as low as it’s made out to be....

2nd gear synhrinizers are weak on stealths. 40k Miles of stepping on it 2nd gear use to pop out and hard to get into the gear. When I was 18 I had one got it with 30k Miles and had it till 100k miles. .
But great engines,. I runned my on 10w30 diesel engine oil. What was in diesel oils was way better for the engine back in those days. Just had to let the engine warm up in winter because of oil thickness. Never had any engine issues from 30-100k miles. Only sparkplug wires replaced throughout 70k miles. Nothing else.
I was using common sense. I use to work in a truck mechanic shop back then Trucks run for 15000-20000 on oil idle everyday. Why not use it in a car and change it every 3000 miles. And it was actually a success. 🙂

I Stumbled upon this video. Seems like the camera man already dislikes it by all the complaining of an old car. Reason its not going into gear is he’s not pressing the clutch all the way in. Maybe is non adjusted right but you can tell a few times he’s just acting like its having trouble. These cars have long clutches that let’s you drive them so much easier. He didn’t even get on it to feel the power. It’s fun when The G force pulls you into your seat.

I could feel my patella grind on bone every time I had to shift that thing (all the way to the floor, no exception, every shift). In the end every single vacuum line failed. The active aero failed. The rear brake lines failed. The rear power steering lines failed. Cool car, but oy the constant state of repair that thing needed was intense.
