They like to say it's because of Satan's influences and temptations, but in reality it just gives people opportunities to build meaningful relationships with people different from them (including "worldly" non-JWs who they soon realize aren't evil pawns of Satan), critical thinking skills, distance from JW influences or manipulation (assuming they move away for college), and a path to financial stability via a degree. It's a nightmare combination if you're a cult trying to keep your followers scared of the outside world and dependent on you. The entire religion is built on fear and emotional blackmail (disobey our rules and we'll take everything from you via disfellowship), so if someone builds a life for themself outside of the org those threats no longer hold any weight because people will just leave on their own. So they choose to demonize education as a horrible thing and say Satan uses it to lead you astray, how if you do choose to pursue higher education you must remain vigilant of all those evil "worldly" people who try to influence you. We took older friends instead of peers, we said no to presents and friends and birthdays and little normal happiness'es that would've helped us develop character, a career, and a life trajectory....and grew up with so much responsibility progressively heaped on us, NEVER feeling the warm fuzzy feelings of Jehovah's love....except when we saw videos like this. It was a way of seeing that it was all worth it...,even if it was projected to us in this little cartoon form.....i was still infantilized.....so it worked for a while. I’m a Christian, and I believe God would be okay with us playing video games. After all, it’s just fiction. God would want everyone to go to college and get a good education. God loves everyone and does want us all to be happy as kids. But that doesn’t mean he wants us to do bad things either, he cares about us and doesn’t want us going down the wrong path as children. Kids playing video games is okay, as long as they’re not sexual. Girls wanting good education and wanting to go to collage is okay. God would most definitely want the best for everyone. Sinning is a part of human nature. It’s just how we are, we mess up. But God understands that and he forgives us. Kids should feel guilty if they’ve done something wrong, something God doesn’t like, like hurting another person or cheating on a test; kids should not feel guilty playing video games or wanting to go to collage. There is certainly a God out there. He’s the one who created us and built the living world for us. He loves you, and everyone. He has omnipresence, meaning he can be everywhere. He can be with you and me at the same time. He loves you and he’s watching over you.

I recently stopped attending the meetings and now someone I used to work for that also attends the meetings is pulling up with the circuit overseer (couldn't have come in a worse time) to try to get me to come back. I'm not even baptized but I still feel like they're trying to control me. I've been attending for well over 4yrs because of my mom making me go and ive been too scared to tell them that Im just not interested, i figured not getting baptized after all this time would've given them a message but no. Now today i gotta be honest and tell them that I'm just not interested. I've noticed that their strategy is to ask specific questions that really have one answer to make it harder for you to deny such "logic"

I remember being very moved by this little video the first time i saw it at age 28 or so. I repeatedly watched it in tears.....And i know why now. Because as a young person raised as a jehovahs witness, we did everything sofia and caleb were encouraged to do. We took older friends instead of peers, we said no to presents and friends and birthdays and little normal happiness'es that would've helped us develop character, a career, and a life trajectory....and grew up with so much responsibility progressively heaped on us, NEVER feeling the warm fuzzy feelings of Jehovah's love....except when we saw videos like this. It was a way of seeing that it was all worth it...,even if it was projected to us in this little cartoon form.....i was still infantilized.....so it worked for a while. I’m a Christian, and I believe God would be okay with us playing video games. After all, it’s just fiction. God would want everyone to go to college and get a good education.
