  • Sleek Buns are beautiful, but can cause a ton of damage over time. Here's a simple solution to installing the sleek bun with minimum damage and stress caused to your natural hair! This slick bun still looks neat and put together, but isn't tight, doesn't pull at your roots, and is completely comfortable for all-day wear! I'll also show you how to add a satin lining to your mesh hair donut. This DIY satin hair donut, or satin covered sock bun, protects your hair while keeping it moisturized, again reducing damage to your natural hair! I hope you enjoy the video and I hope it helps! Xo! I am by no means a businesswoman, but I really think someone in the black community with the skills and drive to do so should consider a line of products that are lined with satin for black women. Satin scarves, sating bonnets, cute satin lined hats, satin pillowcases, satin scrunchies and satin sock-bun makers etc. We are in desperate need of this!

      Don't be +DontSayItSingIt !! It's not completely consistent yet, the ends are still highlighted, you can see it slightly here.. It has a looser curl pattern and tends to be more dry #womp ❤

    • @sahshuh
      @sahshuh 8 лет назад +28

      +trophdoph what do you do to combat the textures? The problem with mine is that the whole front half of my hair is looser, and barely has any shrinkage. The whole back of my hair is wayyyy thicker, has crazy shrinkage, and the curl pattern is wayyyy tighter 😒😒😒 I like both textures. They just don't belong on the same head

      +mspinkytee it was new to me. call me genius, dumb, or whatever, it never even dawned on me to put satin on top of a sock bun. but it'll definitely come in handy now that I've learned :-) remember everyone is at different points in their hair journey, so whats old/new for some may not be the case for others and vice versa.

    You can also just use a satin strip and wrap it around the donut of you don't want to be doing all of that sewing. That's how I wrap my donut for my bun. The strip overlaps so it stays in place.

    That eco styler gel is life. I personally never felt the need to protect with other products while using it. I actually heard that the original formula is even better than any of the other eco stylers so I'll be trying that out once my current green jar stash is done.

    I loved the advice for how to get rid of some of the excess hair. I'm so used to doing the twirling around the bun thing. But I see now that that's unnecessary because my hair is not even that long. This is so much better.

    They always considered buns as a protective style but I didn't understand how if you use the sock bun and if you apply gel which dries out your hair.'
    The DIY satin bun is a fabulous idea which I'm gonna do to protect my hair when I wanna put it in a bun. Also, moisturising and sealing your hair then adding the gel after works!!!!!! I did it and pulled out my bun 3 days after and my hair felt moisturised - it was amazing.THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHH.

      +teenage space land what kid of "shrunken" styles ? i want my hair to be that curly again :(

    • @lenisemicolon
      @lenisemicolon 8 лет назад +1

      Chawrie D She's mentioned applying water more often, not stretching with heat etc so that she can heal from damage. If your hair is curly, you'll see more curls if you apply product and style while wet. Personally I style my hair dry to get the stretch, but then my curls are obscured. You just see the twist out pattern.

    • @Peoplehatethetruth
      @Peoplehatethetruth 8 лет назад +1

      +ooohtay Also the longer your hair gets the heavier it gets, stretching the curls out little more than it would be when it's shorter :) My hair texture started to stretch as it got longer.

    • @Cheyannesorelle
      @Cheyannesorelle 8 лет назад

      +teenage spaceland I think it's a twist out using that flax seed gel tbh, when I do it I get a curly texture too tbh lol

    love the ideas here. Like you, my hair is ultra thick and cannot be contained in a bun or pony easily. I always have a "bump" on top, lol. A pompadour I didn't ask for when I want a smooth look, so I like what you did to handle that. Also, I love the idea of sewing satin material into your hairtie. I'll try these soon!
