The 3-person party is a bit tricky. Dragon-age tends to have those interactive areas where you need a rogue to pick a lock, a mage to move stuff, warrior to break down a wall, etc. With 4 members, you could always ensure you had what you needed.
Also, for those of us who are hard-wired to build standard RPG parties with a healer, tank, and DPS...it will be hard not to feel like I'm missing out on something.

@@curlywhites variety of characters to quest with. If I have a tank, and a mage that can heal, then I only have 1 spot for a DPS mage, or a warrior, or a rogue. And it would NEED to be a rogue to fill out all three. Not many choices.
That also narrows things down based on who you choose to play. If I want to play a rogue, I'm going to miss out on (probably) having any other rogue on my team. Maybe I want to be an assassin, and so Harding is already out of the question. It also eliminates having the warrior Qunari on my team.
Obviously, this gets alleviated some if it just happens to be a game where you don't really NEED a true tank or a true healer. But, the risk there is those games tend to be more button-mashy than actually having to strategize your team composition. Which is an aspect of RPGs I enjoy.

Most of the info you went over seems to point in the right direction for what I was hoping for...until you got to the part where companions cannot be controlled. There were two key gameplay mechanics I was looking for: 1. Tactical pausing (confirmed) and 2. Full party control (removed).
Very disappointed the devs went in the direction for a more Mass Effect squad style with only the ability to issue skill usage commands. Personally, I liked to move and position/reposition my party during battle. I feel it's an integral part to the basis of party based combat in an RPG that the previous Dragon Age games had. Sad to see it was removed.
I was at the cautiously optimistic level of enthusiasm. But now I'm back to neutral unfortunately.

The Pride Demon fight showed the problem pretty well, as in becouse the camera angle sits so low behind your character it creates moments where u cant quickly see the whole outline or how big the aoe effects are. Imo they should seriously consider raising the camera angle up abit higher from the ground to make it easier to se the aoe outlines properly. Nothing is more frustrating than taking dmg from effects u though u were out of just becouse u couldent properly se the outline correctly.

I liked Inquisition too, but apart from a few key moments the game felt without direction to me. The open-world aspect was bloated, like the open-world of ME was mostly mind-numbingly boring. A more linear and highly curated sequel sounds right to me, as do the action-based direction of combat. The closer it gets for first-person, the more realistic and immersive it gets and I prefer it to the ponderous combat of Origins. Speaking of which, that game was in part popular due to Neverwinter Nights being a shallow shell of a game attempting to cash in on the popularity of Diablo. People were starving for something deeper. I'm critical of Veilguard, but for all its streamlined flashiness, it clearly has the depth that is more Bioware than anything else.

@RansomMemoryAccess I'm probably also being old about it 😂 but for those that rode the DAO rave, we saw and felt the changes more than those who became fans during DA2 or DAI. For those fans, DAO was just strange and couldn't see the hype about the game. They got a lot of new fans from DAI, and I'm sure they will get a lot more now with DAV. But the ones that has played DA from 2009... I think many will just not feel like they are becoming a part of a different franchise. It looks very pretty and the cinematics are cool, but I just cannot unsee ME and Assassins Creed in the interactions and combat. BG3 has proved that a game can have an open-world game with a functioning bird perspective combat, and a good leveling system and a fun and cool skill tree. And no, I am not a fan of Diablo 😂 but I am a fan of BG3. I probably should have given Diablo a chance tho 😂

Enjoy the game bro, don't let the way I or anyone else feel's about the game change that. It looks more like a casino slot game to me, and the sound effects are just a nightmare. I was sick of the slashing and wooshes after about 10 seconds of combat. I can't imagine enduring 10 hours of it.
Just my opinion, Dragon Age has changed, and so have my tastes in gaming.

That would mean I would be required to have the other two classes I'm not playing as in the party to make full use of it. Having that forth slot for a extra warrior/rogue/mage added some breathing room for building approval with companions and variety in banter while on the field.

Imagine if you are a Warden and/or have the Warden companion and suddenly you get a vision of an Archdemon awakening.
Then they release an expansion for the game called The Sixth Blight. A 15 hour long new adventure that follows the end of the game where you must bring a Thedas that's reeling from a recent blight, and multiple demonic invasions, back together to yet again fight another blight.
Imagine, world state taken into account, seeing Fereldan warriors show up on the field of battle led by none other than Alistair, former Grey Warden and King of Fereldan.

On top of that with the Veil potentially collapsing in this game, there is a lot of "energy" being pulled into Thedas from The Fade. The Old Gods were originally cast out of The Fade when the Tventir Imperium went into The Golden City at the behest of The Old Gods. They were buried deep in Thedas and put into a slumber. Games NEED to stop relying on "hype." Period. If the content is actually good, the gameplay is solid and the mechanics aren't too convoluted - with no bullshit fetch quests or collectathons all over the map just because Ubisoft, then players WILL buy it. Especially if the game DOESN'T end up needing to be patched right off the bat to be any sort of playable, or half the good content is locked behind "DLC." Hype can only take you so far. Bethesda's learned that the hard way. Otherwise if you can't live up to the promise, all you'll get for it is customers walking out the door.
Deep roots in Thedas is BULLSHIT. We've never heard of at least 3 of these factions at all in any game (I don't count comics or novels - I should NOT have to do extra "homework" just to know what's going on) and by the way holding an extra potion is NOT a "buff." That's not even really a freaking benefit. What. The. Fuck?

They made it this way because it's what fans asked for. DAI's world was pretty and had engaging stuff in it, but was ultimately too big and bloated and that was a consistent complaint. DAO didn't have an open world but a system similar to what DAV sounds like, curated spaces that allowed for some exploration but was filled with specific visuals, enemies, and story beats to find. The impression I got is it's a mix between DAI and DAO's style, DAO's curation with more of DAI's size.

I'm always curious about the romance in BW games. But gotta say, I'm SO not interested in any of the characters in Drea.. I mean Veilguard. Harding? No, fudge no. Neve? nah, but..maybe. That other veiljumper or whatever she is? pfft. She boarded the wrong train, she's supposed to go with the kids to the amusement park, not be in a dark fantasy Adult-ish rated game.
So, this is the first time I honestly dont give a flying fudge about romance, or if the devs decided to forcefeed me lbgtarafdaesrfc+ bullshit.
Boob sliders would be nice, but then again, wont play as a female, so..meh.
Not really super hyped after this video, but slightly more than before. All the interviews were just the director, producer, or whatever, bragging and telling us how GREAT everything they've done in the game is. Well of -effing-course you do, you cant say "well this part of the game blows", right? Sadly too many people are SO easily fooled and swayed by PR bullsh-t.
Romance/sex scenes can get a bit "spicy" ? pfft, I bet you, at MOST we might see a bit of side or underboob. This aint BG3. This is at the end of the day, BORING Electronic Arts.
They brag about how deep the characters are that we can romance. Then they also effing better make the romance feel believable, and with a nice pay-off in the end. Not just some "wanna shag? cool, lets go" followed by "fade to black" followed by "characters clothed again and just acts like nothing happened".
I BET there wont be actual nudity or 'spicy' scenes. Again, PR bullcrap. The need to build hype, and everyone has seen how much BG3 was 'praised' for (well a lot of things) their mature romance scenes. IF Bioware doesn't show us a snippet of a 'spicy' scene prior to launch, you can bet your a$$ that it's nothing special. If it really was 'awesome' they would gladly show it to cater to the people that pay attention to the romance/naughty part of the story. But trust me, you won't see a single nipple, or even a strand of pubic hair, not even the outlines. Well maybe like I said, perhaps a tiny glimpse of a side/under boob. That is ALL we'll get.
In the end it doesnt matter. My point isn't that I want this to turn into a p0rn game, my point is that you should NEVER trust developers/PR people when they talk about their OWN stuff.
It's like me writing here that dont read my comment, it's just full of lies and bullcrap. It's like every youtuber would stop with clickbait titles and thumbnails. EVERYONE lies if it favors them, which it usually does. Anyone that gets hyped by what anyone related to Bioware or EA says about an upcoming game, are simply put, a retard. Probably the same person that pre-ordered games like The Day Before despite all the evidence it's a scam.
I dont care if Hawke or Allistair shows up in Veilguard, both are super boring characters. There's 2 names and a phrase I'll use to let you know the ONLY 'old' characters I WANT to see in Veilguard one way or another:
    1. Leliana
    2. Morrigan
    3. Enchantments?
Dont care for the 'main' characters in Veilguard, they all look boring as fudge. Give me Morrigan, heck throw in Flemeth to if possible. Couldn't care less about Harding, Neve, nor the others, nor do I care if Hawke or Allistair or those makes a cameo. But a DA game without Leliana and Morrigan? That's like taking out Chocobos from a Final Fantasy game.
I'll do have to give a couple of gold star to BW/EA though. NO MTX. Awesome. And no account linking nor online requirement. Yay. I sure hope that then means we do NOT need to use the incredibly crappy EA launcher. I wont ever, EVER have that sh-t on my computer ever again, even if it means losing out on DA and ME in the future.
I'm really curious about WHEN the game will come out, exactly when. Because we got a few other somewhat interesting game the last half of 2024. "
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2" - "Star Wars Outlaws"(yawn) - "AC: Shadows" (seems decent) And at least one more I forgot. But still this is at least a total of 4 games, that will all come out between August 31(or 30? i dunno) and Dec 31. That's like one game each month. Outlaws in August. AC in November. That leaves October and December. When is KCD2 coming out? And when is DA: V coming out.
All in all, despite being pretty "meh" about both the Ubicrap titles, I honestly think, (at the moment at least) I would jump on both of them before Dragon Age. DA sadly doesn't tempt me still. Combat is just another action crap for the kids with zero attention span. But at least we have BG3, for a REAL RPG feeling.
Just why, why is it so forbidden to have *attractive* women in todays' games? Here we get a dwarf, a kid or whatever, and a black (not meant in a racist way, I just dont feel attracted) with a hat that looks dumb af. Seriously, even if we were stranded on a desert island, and you had to pick one of these "women" to be your partner, I would opt for "I'll be by myself, thank you"
At the end of the day, let's at least PRAY that this turns into a good game. Combat is a big part of the game, and the combat sucks, so it aint looking 'great' for now. Characters are far from attractive nor interesting. But at least there's no mtx and no online requirement -as if THAT would suddenly make me go "oh shit, let's pre-order right away". Some people are so dumb/gullable...dont you value your money? Wanna throw money away? Donate to charity, there's actually people in the world whose life you might even SAVE, instead of throwing money at empty promises. But hey..humans are selfish..your OWN possible entertainment comes first, other people ..well they're at the bottom of the list. Right?

But since he obviously won't be a companion, I doubt he will have as big a role to play this time, as in the past two games.

I love how much people hated the Hinterlands because I honestly loved it. It's really not that big at all, but I get that it feels that way. The Hissing Waste was exhausting to me personally. But I loved each area for the worldbuilding it provided though they definitely could have done the whole exploration/quest associations a lot better so everything didn't feel so daunting and large. Hope they learned from that. The release actually has me replaying Inquisition at the moment. I wasn't sure if I'll play Veil Guard only because of what EA/Bioware has done to its staff, but I'll need to do some more digging to make my full decision. This series and Horizon Zero Dawn got me through 6 years of domestic violence and going on 7 years of the after once I was free. I've written 13 fics for Dragon Age and made some amazing friends through the fandom. Saying goodbye leaves a melancholy taste in my mouth and I'm not sure I want to let go of the next game just yet. (Also really hoping people stop b*tching about the game so much because it's exhausting and 99% of what I've read and seen has been so damn petty. Everyone pissed on the previous games' trailers but then praised the game once it was out. It's just the same ol' shit now.

Incredibly well done. I like it when the narrator speaks quickly but uses that to convey more details on the game not so much about their perceptions. Both are good but I think learning of the game in this case is more helpful. Afterall, we'll all judge for ourselves eventually. Very nice job. I appreciate your style.

I am a bit concerned about the lack of active abilities as a mage main. But I [do] enjoy ARPGs so im willing to give it a shot but 3 spells outside of combos feels kinda wack.
5 abilities they say but two are obviously basic attack and the hipfire option they talk about. Sure I'd bet mods can fix that but I'm sure that'll break the game when your mage is throwing around 5 control spells instead of the 1 aoe damage, 1 control, and one free type. Hopefully you unlock more sets of skills as you progress, start with 1 then up to like 3 or 4 total for 9-12 total actives you can toggle through in tactical view.
Im also kinda concerned about the companions, there was no health bars to be seen so like can they get knocked or are they just support features
