Kala pointed out the proportion problem and I agree with the observation. Would be nice to see the heads made proportional to the bodies or the bodies made proportional to the heads. She pointed out that the shoulders on everyone look too narrow. I have already been thinking about how I’m going to try to compensate for it in the character creator.
It's something I've noticed in a few other games like Monsterhunter World. Makes me wish I could pick the brains of the designers to see why they went with those proportions. My best guess is to bring an intentional focus to the face and expression work? With those beautiful facial animations I couldn't blame them, but it is a different kind of distracting. Hopefully I can just adjust and forget about it once I'm immersed in the world and story enough.
I’m sorry but people must have not played any other dragon age if they think going the blood mage sub spec ever mattered beyond their head canons. It never made you evil and no one ever reacted to it being played. No one cared in Origins and Hawke would probably be the last person to learn how to. And now all of a sudden it’s this super important part of playing dragon age? It’s good to see the devs finally understand that if it’s brought back as playable class, should be done right.
@@AutumnFallsWinter I agree that it's always been lackluster in execution, and I would love to see it done justice. It is extra egregious in 2, where magic is so important to the story and blood magic has a major thematic place in it but no one reacts or cares if Hawke takes that path. At the same time, I also agree with people who are disappointed in its omission and particularly the devs first addressing the question with "trust us, you don't want to use blood magic." It feels weird to go two games in a row with that option removed from the player, since it holds such significance in the world of Thedas. But more importantly, it feels bad when RPG devs tell players what they do and do not want.
Are you sure you know what you're talking about? It was in multiple Origins quests that explained blood magic was evil. I would place the reaver class as bm too, and to get that you had to defile the urn of ashes. Desecrating holy objects is not neutral or good.
It was evil, it originated from demons. The Jowan uses bm and its a death sentence. To get the reaver class you have to defile sacred ashes, Lelianna would attack you on the spot. There was cut content that wynne would attack you if you used it in the mage's circle questline.

yep I couldn't put my finger on what made them look so goofy until I saw that Reddit post. It looks a million times better when the proportions are fixed. Their bodies are off too, they're really stubby looking, someone on the Reddit post described it like they took a dwarf model for all the races and just stretched them out, but it still has that stocky/stubby look of a dwarf.
It almost makes me want to cry to see a comment section not drowning in... well, I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking about. True fans with true criticisms. The big heads thing is a style choice. They deliberately chose this. I’m not sure if they will bother to change it, but maybe if enough people complain more than they already are complaining over every little thing, then they might tweak it. Either way, I’ll just mess with it in the cc.

Glad you, and Kala give fair coverage compared to the rage baiters. Honestly tired of everything being considered a controversy or an agenda, it's like some of these people have never played dragon age before. You put out good content and its a breath of fresh air.
There is balance in everything. The fact this game is fully embracing a political message and throwing it down our throats makes it fairplay to criticize it for it. And a game does not fail only because of political agendas. DA:V is just looking "mid" as a game when it's supposed to be AAA. In fact, a lot of DA fans would consider it a failure right now if not for a few interesting lore tidbits.
the proportions are the only thing i dislike about the characters, beyond that i love them. that being said, dragon age has always had weird character proportions (flashbacks to origins dwarf girls), so i'm not sure why some people seem so shocked.
Yeah, it's just a sad thing about gaming that people suddenly apply standards to one game in a series that they didn't, and never will, apply to other games in the series.
The body proportions aren't that big of a deal to me, and I'm sure I'll get used to them, but do you guys think its even possible for Bioware to fix it?
Blood Mage should be like BG3 Dark Urge. A more custom playthrough of the game where story beats are changed and party members might not side with you at all and in the end you might actually aid the bad guys in destroying the world. If only then they could get that to work for Warrior and Rogue as well.
I imagine that's how they see it. If we include that the whole Thedas may be more 'magical' after this game, the class might not even be called Blood Mage.
finally the cinematics look amazing, BioWare is showing their potential with the animations, gestures and so on that so many people were complaining about before and what the hell, the game itself looks wonderfully done, I think this time I'll get more than one character before I get past the prologue 😂
@@cracmar03Hopefully it won't be as bad as Inquisition lol. Nothing like my female elf manspreading as she walked for some reason 💀 like who walks with their legs three feet apart
Someone give bioware this video and give them another few months. The head proportions IS the issue I couldn't pin point either. That being said, I'm still excited.
They might do a patch similar to Andromeda. I started playing that game day one, and it didn't really bother me that much, but it didn't take too long for the patch to drop that smoothed out the facial issues, if I remember correctly.
Thats very ez to explain.. if you are a Troon who takes HRT your vision goes bad and everything looks strange ... so you make googfy looking game character.
Im glad they're making DA:VG a complete game at launch and not needing a dlc to get the full picture. As for dlc, if they do it, I think a straight forward set up for the next game would be good like mythal is now making her move and is the big bad of the next game.
I hope they don't set up the next game in DLC since I'm poor and I really don't want to spend twenty bucks to get the last chapter of the story a la Trespasser or Legacy. Don't get me wrong those DLCs are great but feels kinda like a cop out at the same time. I think if they release DLC it should be more self contained like Descent and Mark of the Assassin were, fun extra content and maybe a bit of world lore but no large story beats.
I've not played this yet, I am waiting on more info. and reviews. However, I grew up with Dragon Age, played all games and DLCs. Can I just say, I love how they designed the dialogue choice for Rook? It throws me back to Dragon Age 2, where depending on your response, Hawke came off as passive, humorous, or aggressive. It's a really nice throw-back, tbh.
VO! Don't use reviews. You can easily get influenced by them if you see only negative ones (from review bombing) and never play it. (a chance, as people decide to play to see if it id bad) If you want to, play, if not, don't. I only rely on reviews for mobile games.
@@fireblade295 I mean... reviews are still important, especially if you're on the fence. You're spending sixty to seventy of your hard earned dollars after all. But especially for this release that's been absolutely devoured by toxic people for whatever reason, it's important to make sure you get all sides instead of losing yourself in the really loud minority yelling "THIS GAME IS WOKE TRASH" and being hateful and negative simply because they have nothing better to do with their lives. The review embargo for people who played the demos will likely lift sometime during the week before release so hopefully OP will be able to make their decision then ^^
10:00 That isn't what happened. The Iron Bull's superiors demanded he protect the Qunari dreadnought, even if that meant sacrificing his Chargers. They never demanded he turn on the Inquisitor! BioWare doesn't even know their own lore! And if they were thinking of Trespasser, The Iron Bull was tal-vashoth by that point, and thus he had no superiors within the Qun. And if he was still Qunari, and his superiors ordered him to turn on the Inquisitor, then he DOES turn, even if romanced. Oh wow! I just realized, there is no option to determine if Bull was loyal to the Qun or not while in the relationship with the Inquisitor! So this is just assuming you broke him away from the Qun if you chose his romance. BioWare devs are literally out of their minds! No, there is no DLC or expansion planned because BioWare knows it is going to flop.
@@subject8776 true he was clean asf fr but even the regular grunts look cool. I never played as a qunari but if they looked like that then i definitely would. After DA2 looks like they’re trying to humanize them but they’ve never had a consistent design to begin with
I really hope the game doesn't always have one companion approve and the other disapprove. You should be able to being two people who agree or make a choice that is slightly approved and greatly approve by both. Same with disapprove. I have this fear with the companion getting hurt situation, like no matter what choices you make during a mission one companion will get hurt and its all down to a very limited choice of person 1 or person 2 gets hurt. That doesn't make me feel like my choices matter, that makes me feel like im on railroads during missions. Hope this fear is wrong and its just 1 mission it happens like that to introduce the system to you. The fear comes from everyone who played the game and talked about the choice where one companion gets hurt. No one has mentioned that they didn't get that choice or was able to avoid any of them getting hurt.
It's a linear game, so yes, they're going to railroad the player whilst only providing the illusion of choice. There will probably be 2 or 3 choices that actually matter in the game.
You can set your Inquisitor, but not your Hero of Ferelden or Hawke. Of all things, I wanted them so badly to return in the new installment. Doesn't seem that they will...
Agreed. I'm skeptical of the singular worldstate idea, and only changing Inky. I hope they didn't show the rest of the starter game info in this video but there is more there. I thought there was supposed to be a way to set up your worldstate at the beginning, since they're not using DAKeep. Something like the Genesis comic in Mass Effect. It would really suck if people's canon worldstates are shoved to the side. There are so many different permutations for the world, but it's not like those decisions really impacted DAI aside from cameos (Alistair king/warden/dead, etc.). I imagine my Zev-romancing HOF and Anders-romancing Hawke will only be side mentions at best, not even cameos.
I don't get why we can't get Hawke or HoF back. Especially if they semi treat DA 4 like an ending. If they are uncertain of future of the game, dlc's inclueded it should actually get ALL our protagonists for one last action. And definately explain fate of someone stuck in Fade from Inquisition. I get that HoF issue is probably voice acting .. but HoF barely ever speaks so they could easily make up some 3/3 voices to choose at beggining so they would speak in these.
@@cracmar03The HOF I definitely see why. The biggest issue is the voice- as the HoF was an unvoiced protagonist, no matter what voice they use someone somewhere will be unhappy. Beyond that there's just a LOT of variability on the HOF that Hawke and even Inky don’t have with their personality and origins. As for Hawke, I don't really know. Maybe they just weren't connected enough to the story this time. Plus they got a lot of flack since people didn't seem to think their Hawke acted the same way as DA2 and felt out of character to them.
@@lulungameena8817 There's not a singular worldstate. You can adjust choices in the CC when you make your Inky. There's only three choices though- who you romanced in Inquisition, whether the Inquisition is disbanded or a peacekeeping force, and whether your Inky vowed to stop Solas at all costs or attempt to save him. Anything else apparently won't be brought up. Maybe the devs are omitting something for some reason or things will be set through dialogue or something, but for now it seems there's only gonna be three choices and the rest of your worldstate just won't be mentioned I guess.
@@bubblybobabubbles that there are only 3 choices, and 1 of them being silly (who your Inky romanced...honestly this irks me the most), basically turns it into 1 worldstate where nothing you did mattered. Think of it like this: Who is the Divine? Does it matter or should it matter? YES, because we're going to places still under the Orlesian Chantry's purview, except for Tevinter. If there are free mages or Circles, if the Templars were reformed or reinstated, if the Divine can now marry are very important considerations. We're traveling with mages and an abomination, that will certainly matter in a fanatically devout area like the Anderfels. I'm not saying here need to be acknowledgment of every choice in all the games - the Keep's tapestries were unwieldy as it is - but hinging on 3 very specific, and Inquisitor-specific choices, really squashes things in the world down. It throws away a surviving HoF and their search for the cure to the Calling, it disregards whomever wasn't left in the Fade and their march onto Weisshaupt, it disregards if Iron Bull is still alive, or if Cole is human or spirit.

@@garycannon4644 True, but since it's not, I'd be more than happy to pay for a DLC if it was really worth it and if it really impacted the story and how you play the game. I just don't want a bunch of useless DLCs.
50-150 hours for Inquisition? I have playthroughs that are over 300. If you are a completionist *and* play on nightmare using tactical pause a lot, the hours stack up fast, especially after they released 3 huge DLCs.
I just feel like Blood Magic in general was such a wasted opportunity. It was touched on nicely in Origins, became a huge plot point in 2, and then Inquisition and (seemingly) Veilguard just decided, "Eh, fuck it, we won't even talk about it, that much." I'm not a huge edgelord, trying to do an "Evil" run, I just really liked the risk/reward aspect of opening yourself up to much darker powers, in exchange for abilities you wouldn't usually get, and the story implications of that precarious balance.
Hellz yeah, blood mage! The single most interesting class in the series. Even if we don’t get it until the last DLC! I want to be a goddamn blood mage finally after 10+ years.
you make a good preview. Im stil feeling torned about the game, mostly because of the art direction and the combat could become boring rather quickly; i was never a fan of the one class aply a debuff, that then another class can trigger and so forth. But i do have some questions about gearing. Can i use a sword and dagger for a rogue? Can i duel wield 2 axes? can a warrior duel wield?
to your question.. no and no... each class has its own weapons that they can use... there are no alt weapons... a mage will ALWAYS carry a staff and dagger+orb... and a rogue will ALWAYS carry 2 daggers and a bow... you CANNOT change these weapons no matter what.. each companion's weapon is also locked in
@@arcanumelite4853 that sucks. Given the chance, i always make a character that can use sword and dagger. For a game, that claims to be diverse, i fail to see it, sinds the player is forced into a sterotype of how a warrior or rogue is, when they can be much more. Origins had it right; warrior could make use of any weapons and weapon style, a rogue couldnt use a two handed weapon but they were stil able to duel wield 2 axes, clubs or using a sword and dagger.
@@Dysjong yes but this game has weapon specific actions that aren't skill-based... like blocking with the shield and parrying with daggers or shielding yourself with staff as well as all the attacks these weapons can do without the use of skills... allowing each class to use all the weapons would mean that there would need to be hundreds of weapon actions for each class which would be a nightmare to make.
@@arcanumelite4853 Sorry to say this but they have had YEARS to develop this and where did they focus on? Clearly not the combat part or the build diversity. I am not impressed by the combat aspect of the game. It looks more like a glorified beat-em game then a rpg.
@@Dysjong they had three years since the ip was restarted twice thanks to EA. It's also fine that the combat wasn't the sole main focus this isn't dragons dogma the story/narrative is what's gonna make or break the game, which is basically deciding the fate of bioware so it makes sense for some of the options for combat in the game to be scrapped or not worked on for the betterment of other aspects.
just a lil constructive criticism when using a person footage you should have a watermark on screen on who's footage you are using considering you have there full audio too
Pretty sure it's confirmed there's only three choices- who your Inquisition romance was, whether the Inquisition disbanded or became the Divine's peacekeeping force, and whether your Inquisitor vowed to save Solas or stop him at all costs. There may be more choices set through dialogue triggers somehow or something, or maybe they left some stuff out of the demos for some reason, but that's what's reported to be in the CC when you start the game.
This is going to be a save-scummy game for me. I'll have to click on the choice I want to make, see if I like the implementation and result, and then decide if I continue or reload. The opening cinematic, for example, is one in which I would choose to fight. However, as I will also be playing a Mage, I will be forced to be diplomatic to avoid (or try to avoid) seeing my Mage forced into the melee stereotype when they could be freezing everything in sight.
A blood mage should feel like playing a dark whosy in Baldur's Gate 3. (forget the correct name of the BG3 thing but you get the meaning) So I get it for why it isn't there. That'll be a lot of extra work to do right.

Personally im looking forward to making a Megamind Kunari mage now.. i am glad if we are good enough at the CC we can make a Yoked chad but the fact i can have Smurf # 3 with a Ticktack and giant brain makes me laugh. cant wait for the 31st
I specifically remember my elf Mage in Inquisition had a very large head compared to her very thin body, so to me, the head size being kind of large is really the same as Inquisition. Do I think it would look better if the heads were smaller? yes, the heads do look better smaller, but they were that way in Inquisition too. I will adjust my characters head size in the character creator as I have seen some very good-looking Rooks shown that others created who played the preview of the game. I think it would likely be a pretty simple fix for the developers to just reduce the head size of the companions, or maybe I am wrong, and it is not that easy. It would be nice if they could adjust the size though, but it really will not stop me from playing the game if the heads stay the way they are.
they have no time to createnew class now. So either they already created it and keep under table for surprise or they plan it for dlc. Hope for first and will be glad for second.
Makes me actually planning on Male playthroughs! I only, or solely, play female MCs in games for voices (and models). Male VAs tend to be too gruff, too unfitting, or just triggering my auditory sensitivity.
Question for everyone who knows more than I, from the looks of it the companions have a unique skill tree? Is there any variation in a form of "specialization" or will we be able to fully unlock all skills for a companion
all skills will be available.. HOWEVER each skill has 2 paths it can take... once you choose a path its locked in... i imagine 1 path is for friendship and the other is for rivalry? but im not 100% sure of that part.
I definitely can't agree there. Not that I didn't enjoy the game, I did. I love Inquisition. But it's a completionist's nightmare, worse than Witcher 3's infamous question marks. Honestly, I think you can tell just from the Power system; if you full run that game you wind up with *way* more than you need to unlock basically everything, and some areas have only the barest story-related reasons as an excuse to send you there. Any time I play it, I use it as an excuse to role play my Inquisitor's priorities, deciding what to focus on and what to skip, after the essentials are taken care of.
it very much is if you try to do everything. im having to plan out what regions to go to in what order just so im not over leveled by the time i get there
I agree that it was fun, but it was bloated, not enough character focus or engagement. You didn't talk to npcs much or made any real impactful decisions. But I love Inquisition to bits and think it could have been better if some zones were trimmed down, ahem Hissing wastes, Storm Coast and Western Approach. Like in the space Hissing Wastes and Western approach occupy you can have them occur in the same map and add in the Forbitten Oasis and it will still be pretty empty as a map.

Just like me, except I got used to it/couldn't even tell in the example cutscene.
Blood Mage should be like BG3 Dark Urge. A more custom playthrough of the game where story beats are changed and party members might not side with you at all and in the end you might actually aid the bad guys in destroying the world. If only then they could get that to work for Warrior and Rogue as well.
Bioware doesn't let you be evil anymore. At best they let you be a dick.
I imagine that's how they see it. If we include that the whole Thedas may be more 'magical' after this game, the class might not even be called Blood Mage.
Well there's always blood reaver, but I don't think there's even been an edgier rogue than assassin. I would love to see one though!

@@ichigozangetsugrimmjozgqp9439 39 days to go
The reason there's no DLC is because no one is buying the game.
(a chance, as people decide to play to see if it id bad)

@@fireblade295 I mean... reviews are still important, especially if you're on the fence. You're spending sixty to seventy of your hard earned dollars after all.

The head sizes has always been my problem with this game. If they shrank them I wouldn't have an issue with it.
I just want to romance Lucanis as a male mage and give it a go.

Seems like a similar cc to rooks
He means story choices from previous games.
We need to see more about customizing the past events
Does it include decisions affected from decisions from 1 & 2?

Inquisition was NOT bloated it was fun all the way through & I replayed as each class multiple times & Trespasser dlc made it even better.
Inquisitions open world was bloated had to many fetch quests and collectibles and It was pretty lifeless and empty
Wait wait JUST WAIT A MINUTE 😮😳😳. I am playing through mass effect legendary edition as well as dragon age inquisition but world STATE 😳😳😲😲🥴 THIS is giving off Mass effect 3 vibes like if you don't do what your supposed to then the world is screwed and YOU. LIKE how with the galaxy and reapers and you having to unite everyone and if you don't everyone will DIE. Oh dear lord they are serious 🤭🤭😁 this is it folks I also have a feeling it will be like a ME2 suicide mission to 😁👍👍.
lucanis looks like a yaoi character with correct proportions, I don't think they "corrected" his well lmao
people really nitpicking the head size 😅? Characters are stylized period
It's not a nitpick when it bothers so many people :)
@@Dantics numbers do not invalidate nitpicking 😂. People are clearly nitpicking the correctness of the head when it is intended to be incorrect and exaggerated.
Are we seriously saying it’s the first time we see stylized characters? 😮 Nothing here is comparable to real life proportions, exaggerated eyes, nose, lips, body, yet people conclude the head is incorrect.
DLC not planned out might just mean that they want to see how people play the game and what their audience wants. If we want blood mages enough, we might get them.
*mindblown*
The head proportions... Yup now i cant unsee that haha!
Oh and really liking your fair coverage of the game!
I am so buying this game. I dont care about lgbt choices in creating my Rook, it is optional after all. As i indetify (muhehehe) as a gamer i simply have obligation to play this game at least 3 times because these 3 classes are bombastic. My main issue therefore is which one i play first????
your rook looks so good in the bar fight scene!!
Screw the haters, I am psyched to get back to Thedas. I've played through every DA game on release since Origins and I've enjoyed every one of them (including 2). I imagine this will be no different.
Was that the actual map... it looks so much smaller than inquisition and not so much open world:(
Doesn't seem like you can play as an evil character in this game looks like another thing that was dropped that made DA games fun along with controllable companions , the four party set up, and the tactical camera .
I'm so excited for this game but those proportions are not it :// everything else looks great! I will definitely still play it but I wish they would give this game a few more months to change the heads, hands, etc...
most important question. how does the game run?
Id like if the mage used magic in the bar fight, but thats nitpicking
Well i can't unsee it now, hopefully the devs will fix the proportions cuz this is going to be be the main thing that stops me buying the game
I think I'm pretty sold now. I mean, I'm not a fan of the bright neon colors on enemies, reminds me of suicide squad, and the art style in reference to the characters look really off. But everything else looks fun so far
Defininetly going to be a mod to fix the head size real quick.
I’m not even sure I want a pirate this game. But I will probably pirate it later after they crack the denuvo. I wouldn’t reward five dollars to these studios who make such ugly trash.
they had this in dragon age 2 the rivalry by your companion would straight up hate you to the point where they will leave the group, I remember one time in dragon age 2 me and Anders hate each other and he betray me, and I had the chance to kill Anders and did and see the faction, I hope that whenever faction you help, they help you in the finally battle and also I want see what happened when you either destroy a faction or refuse to help like let said you refuse to help the grey warden to push back the darkspawn , in the finally battle, the darkspawn are everywhere making the battle more harder
Blood mage class as DLC, perhaps?
Ive spoken about the proportions several times because man it really bothers me 😭
Can't unsee it now, but it's good to finally be able to articulate what was bothering me.
I can unsee it.
i'm sure there will be a mod to reduce the head size on nexusmods
I'd greatly appreciate as a woman. Being able to have a cup bigger than a b. Y'know to represent me.
@@Geeklectica Yeah what's with so many modern AAA games being afraid to portray what is, quite frankly, a normal female body? Are they afraid of women or something? Lol
@@breendart134 While the fat and muscle body is not representative enough too, they taking everything in the game in the name of a false moralism
Not inclusive enough.
Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 can do that. Great character creator. I made a chonky granny (to represent me) and she took on the big bads like a champ. It was a lot of fun.
@@AmySorrellMusic I love the character creator in Dragons Dogma!
so the people making the qunaris just fucked up in chara creation
Ya don't say!
It was always skill issue...
Did Bioware fuck up when they made Taash, who looks just as bad as player created Qunari?
as someone with a large head, I think it's fine... 🙃
I am still hyped, but man that map gave me depression.
